Let me get this straight. The iPhone 8 is going to have the form factor of a 4.7" iPhone 7 but just a bigger screen??

I don't see them making the iPhone 8 anything less thanthe form factor of the 5.5" iPhone 7 Plus. I imagine that the screen will actually be larger since it will be bezel-less
That may come at same time or later for over $1200

Let's hope Apple will do the right thing and build enough of these early enough for launch. I think what we saw with the iPhone 7 Plus in regards to availability at launch was terrible as you couldn't even buy it in stores for weeks. Can only imagine what stock levels would be like with new technology inside a new design.

Seems the 5.15" usable area would be smaller than the usable 5.5" area of the 7plus. Am I missing something? It would be hard to transition to a smaller screen now that I've gotten used to the plus one. Ideally the usable area remains the same in a form factor that is slight smaller package than the 7plus. That to me would be a huge win.

But since I'm on Apple's one a year upgrade plan I'll be getting a new phone anyways, so why not the OLED model even if the usable area might be slightly smaller...

I really can't see Apple just leaving the bottom to functions like a touch bar. It's just such a clumsy implementation. I could see the bottom sort of fading away in some apps (like video) and then reappearing with a tap, the way the menu bar in Safari currently works.

If the prices keep rising the bubble is going to burst. At some point people are going to fall out of love with getting the latest phone every 12-24 months and realise the one they have does everything well enough for 5 years.

These things are going to become like the iPad or your desktop PC soon and raising the prices will only hasten that future.

Apple said they removed the headphone jack because they needed more room for other stuff. Do we really think they are going to chop off the bottom & top of the phone now just for the heck of it?

I don't like the direction this is headed. It's like what manufacturer's are doing with football jerseys over here, they have like 3 versions of almost the same thing to hit every price point. You can pay €90 for an Adidas soccer jersey and not have the best model, no you have to pay €120 for the ones the players actually wear. Great way to alienate your customers, Apple.

Can anyone who understand graphics pls explain how existing apps will work on new resolution?

Being a "Plus" user I am not incredibly happy having a 5.15 inch "Main Screen" device at all. I do not much care about the curved phones either. So where is this other 0.65 inches going? Virtual buttons? Seems a massive waste of space to me being used for extra functionality down the side with the curves. If this is true I would be incredibly disappointed, been waiting for this years iPhone for a while now. Fingers crossed this rumor is wrong.

Apple already gave you a 4 inch iPhone. It's the iPhone SE. I owned the SE for six months and it's exactly as you described with sharper edges and much edgier to hold over the 4.7 model. Personally, I think Apple was gracious to bring back a 4 inch iPhone, when all the other manufacturers have primarily moved large scale.

True but Apple has yet again neglected another product, the SE has been out how long and they still haven't upgraded the screen contrast that is basically all the SE needs. I love the form factor and the square edges, its a classic look and feel I still love. The contrast and clarity of that screen is very very poor especially when you also have the iPhone 6s like I do. Side by side you can clearly see the SE has a very poor screen contrast and it lacks vibrance.

I really hope that the 8 isn't an enormous phone that won't fit into the pocket. I skipped on the 7 but my 6 will need replacing this year. I am hope there will be a 7s/7s plus that will be the same form factors, but if the 8 is larger than the 7 then it's a no-no from here. Not sure what I'll do then.

If they do get a larger screen onto an 8 the same size as the normal 7 as this rumour suggests then that will be fantastic. Let's just hope.

Very surprised Kuo, and ALL others who professionally follow Apple, have NOT yet picked-up on the fact that the iPhone 8 will support 10-bit Display P3 (i.e., Wide Color) capture & display.

I guess they're planning to do "anchoring effect" strategy by having two inferior phones released together with one major change... hmm

But it sounds like you're describing exactly the kind of thing that they could do by removing the headphone jack- extend the display all the way over area the headphone jack used to occupy.

ABOUT TIME! that's all I have to say. I was SO disappointed with the last form factor (the one they used for 3 years!)

It was outdated the day it was released, and they had that form factor for three years. Apple is playing catch up, other cell phones have larger screens with smaller form factor.

I can't wait to see the lame video of that weird english dude (john Ive) say this phone is the most advance phone yet, while he hides in his bat cave in London. Does this guy have Enochlophobia (fear of crowds)?

I don't want to have to scan my face every time I want to open my iPhone. Much prefer the fingerprint sensor. Hope you have other options.

It won't scan your face (not enough room) it will be an IRIS scan with a single camera from what I saw. That's not bad at all after you train it. On the Lumia I have a side button, simply press and stare at top for half a second and in. The people who complain about IRIS scans (Like Leo Lapport) :

1. Did not train the system correctly in different lighting
2. Are not looking at the camera area for .5 sec (not entirely necessary as long as eyes are near that area)

You do those two items correctly and its basically instant login. Becomes natural. So don't knock it until you try it. Current fingerprint techniques are not as secure nor as sanitary. IRIS is simply better than a specific fingerprint sensor in every way.

Of course Apl will make a big deal out of it and make it seem grand as you train it with some mission impossible training session.

Whats funny though, is Surface Pocket LTE will likely have "fingerprint anywhere" tech , so they might go to fingerprint bio in that pocket device
