You know they're will be a backlash as when the new MacBook Pros came out. This time, they'll be proactive and likely include a Lightning-to-USB-C adapter and/or give a temporary discount on accessories.

Charging cable should be unchanged as long as possible. If lightning is only used for five years, then they should have stayed with 30 pin and directly gone to USB-C.

How does USB-C solve the problem that none of my lightning cables fit? Right now, I can charge my iPhone at work if I forgot to charge it. If it had a USB-C connector, I couldn't.

It's really not a difficult situation to resolve. Yes, there will be an awkward transition period, but it will be better afterwards.

That's just how it's always been and always will be when shifting standards.

I really hope they kill off the lightning cable. First off, it's no faster than the previous connector so USB-C would be faster. Second, it would add a beautiful consistency to all their new products. Lastly, I've had very bad luck with 3rd party lightning cables; always seems like they last a week or so and then poop out. :(

Am I the only one hoping they won't go with a curved display? It adds absolutely nothing of value... Other than perhaps looking cool the first time you see the phone. After that point it just becomes annoying. It makes the phone much harder to hold without accidentally touch the display (yeah I have a Galaxy S7 Edge and this happens all the time when using it with one hand..) and the portion of the display that is curved is useless as everything displayed in this area gets distorted so having a 5,5-inch curved display gives you less usable screen area compared to a 5,5-inch flat display.

With that said, I'm all for a "Edge-to-Edge" display. Having lips on the left and right side of the display is wasted space. But you don't need to wrap the damn display around the edges...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as Android is concerned, the curved display is simply display, that can be touched normally. It doesn't know you're touch the edge, or the front-facing display? Apple, with control over iOS, can make sure when you grip the phone, nothing acts like you've tapped the display.

My guess is you want the Galaxy S7 Edge to have a bigger display than the non-Edge. This strikes me as the logical thing Apple would do.

I don't see USB-C debunking over the lightning port this September. At least not yet.

If the curved display is accurate, I'm not interested in it. To me, it appears gimmicky. I'm not sure if I believe these rumors. I think it's mud slinging at this point.

I do think we will see 4.7/5.5 LED and 5.8 OLED Model.
Haven't read anything past this comment, but how will Apple compete with Samsung without a slick ass looking phone? Have you seen the Samsung ad about how the S8 is changing what a phone's silhouette is supposed to look like

Not saying iPhone is doomed, but I don't think Apple can sit here while Samsung changes the game
The S8 and S8 Edge leaked photos are absolutely stunning

Maybe they'll make their own USB-C cables that will optimally charge the new iPhones. They'll probably give that guy Benson Leung a job, too. Gotta keep that MFi program going, you know? 0.5-1A and USB 2.0 speeds for non-compliant cables, 2.4A and USB 3.1 speeds for MFi certified ones. I think it stands for "mandatory free income" for Apple.

They don't need that because USB-C can supply up to 100 Watt. So _any_ USB-C cable needs to not burn with 100 Watt going through it. If it cannot do 20A then it isn't USB-C, nothing to do with Made For iPhone program.

What the rumour mill are calling "iPhone 8" will be "iPhone Pro" I think.

I'm still holding out some feeble hope there won't be a 7S at all (unless iPhone 7S replaces the iPhone 7 like the "Series 1" Apple Watch replaced the first-gen).

Just give us an iPhone 8, and an iPhone 8 Plus. Same size as current phones, but with larger screens. Actual new technology that allows Touch ID, the camera and the speaker under the display. OLED display. Wireless charging at a distance, if the tech is ready.

Like was pointed out on the Talk Show: If people are only upgrading their phones every 3 years, they can be more expensive, and therefore have more expensive parts.

the "8" would more likely be called just, "iPhone".
no number or other identifier.
apple repeatedly has done this when it re-invents or re-positions a line.

Why not? The usual S upgrade and then a very expensive and limited edition phone. I've been expecting something like that since the first rumors came out. And then next year they build on the limited edition one.
Like the gold Apple Watch?

Ad others have said it's probably likely that the new phones will be Lightning and USB-C. Makes sense so you can plug into new Macs.

If Apple really was ditching Lightning why did they release AirPods with Lightning? And what about all the headphone companies now making Lightning headphones to support Apple's removal of the headphone jack. This rumor makes no sense.

I don't know if this is true. I have seen too many USB-C parts that have a wattage restriction (or also a speed restriction).

I would argue most rumors regarding Apple products have been spot on for the last few years.

While a lot of rumours hit the mark, many don't:

The iPhone SE didn't have a curved display like the iPhone 6: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/03/02/what-the-iphone-se-might-look-like/

The iPhone 7 Plus *did* get a dual-camera system, but no smart connector: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/03/15/iphone-7-plus-photo-dual-lens-smart-connector/

iPhone 7 didn't have a flush rear camera: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/02/02/iphone-7-flush-camera-no-bands/

That last one is a perfect example of how you can remember "they predicted there would be no antenna bands - the rumours are right!" despite the prediction being 50% wrong.

And when wasn't that the case?

Even if you think Samsung/Android lead now (a crazy idea considering the chain of events that are: Siri > S Voice > Touch ID > Galaxy S Fingerprint Scanner > 64-bit A7 chip > Samsung's "We're working on 64-bit, too!" statement > Apple Pay > Samsung Pay) then look back in your history books.

Apple announces iPhone - Google re-thought Android so it wasn't Blackberry-like, but iOS-like. Look at the early Android phones.

That is when iPhone led the industry, even if you don't think they're leading now. Funny thing was at the time, Nokia and Blackberry were still viable players, and no one thought Apple was leading. When we look back, people say "Apple lead then, but not now."

Other than with the retina MacBook being - in the long run - a replacement to the MacBook Air, when has Apple ever done this? Not trying to have an argument, I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

I must say I prefer the lightning connector standard more, it seems so much more solid compared to the bigger USB C connector. Too bad it's not the other way around...

why should they have lightning AND usb-c? there is all the reason to streamline. i will not like it initially but in the long run - honestly it would be better. and eventually it's going to be wireless anyhow. bot my first BT-headphones now (beatsx) so I'm all for it.
