Leopard Delay

This is probably true. Now that Apple have moved to Intel, they are trying to emulate the success of Microsoft. What do MS do best? Miss launch dates. Since Vista was a couple of years late, Apple probably wants to jump on this band wagon.

Lets just hope they don't try to emulate WIndoze's complete lack of security!

;)

I'll believe it when Apple makes the announcement...

I find it hard to believe that they have done all of this hiring for tech support, sent out "iPhone information guides" to At&t stores, AND it is going to be delayed until OCTOBER. I mean, I probably will not be the first one in line to buy an iPHONE, but it seemed pretty nice (as is) at the announcement.

UNLESS they are adding more MAJOR features to the device, I would be willing to bet we still see it in JUNE.

As for OS X, I really don't care if they delay it until April or 2008. My current operating system works fine.

I'd prefer to see a mac mini, macbook pro, or even an iPOD update.

I'd say this was some pretty flagrant stock manipulation by somebody. I wish I'd seen this story when first posted, I'd have called BS and cashed in on the fluctuation.

AAPL has now recovered to ~$107.3. There are some folks who made a LOT of money buying at $103.9

Take it easy! MR is a site that reports rumours. This, I can verify, is a rumour.

As to the accuracy of the rumour, it's engadget's job to verify that before they post.

I don't agree Nutter. I'm with SC68Cal on this one. Arn even seemed hesitant to post this page 1. It clearly should have been page 2.

MR may be a rumor site but Arn has a history of appropriately categorizing rumors between page 1 and page 2. This was a mistake. Don't get me wrong, he's still awesome, but this one was over the top considering how much tension already exists concerning these two products.

I seriously suggest we should boycott engaget rumours on this site due to this blatantly corrupt reporting.

This was a hedgie hit job on AAPL and is both illegal and unfair.

MA.

Choosing Page 1 vs. Page 2 can't be based on whether or not the story will eventually prove to be true or false. It's based on the relative importance of the topic and the source of the information. That way, MacRumors can bring rumors of the most potential importance to your attention, so you can judge the story's merits.

But on Apple's own site it shows that the Leopard BETA will be available in June and that the OS will be out by October......!?

Who are we to believe then?!

Yes, but considering that Engadget has been wrong before, it should've been relegated to Page 2 rather than Page 1. It is important, but let's face it, it wasn't likely to be true anyway. Anyone with half a brain would understand that the iPhone already needs to be in production.

hey guys. I explained the reasoning why it was posted on page one in the body of the story itself.

it boils down to the fact that engadget has a huge readership ... larger than macrumors so the rumor was out there. we got a dozen submissions for it immediately after it was published..

despite whether we believe it to be true or not, it was going to get enough press that it needed to be on page one.

Yeah, when this was posted the stock dropped sharply, by something like 3 dollars, but it's mostly recovered. I hate when hack articles that are probably just meant to drive advertising by being posted and dugg on Digg have adverse effects on my portfolio.

Ryan Block is getting very irritating. First it was the fake Zune 2 and now this. Yet they probably made a packet from the page views.

Canary trap..

Just Apple setup to find a source for the leaks ;)

Read Tom Clancy...

Apple wanted to find a leak. If they did in fact do this on purpose, based on the Arstechnica article, then they took the calculated risk of what that information would do to their stock price, IF it was actually leaked, and ONLY if it were leaked. Seeing how their stock has performed recently, and will probably perform after the JUNE launch of the iPhone, they probably felt it was worth it to find someone who was in violation of their contract.

Looking at the engadget retraction, I can't really say it's their fault. Assuming they're being truthful, an internal apple email was sent out about the delays, but it turned out that somebody had gained access to their system, and the email was a spoof.

The truth of the matter...

The truth is so simple that no one sees it right in front of their face.

This whole rumor was let loose by one of Steve Ballmer's sock puppets.

Why does Ballmer feel compelled to post this stuff all over the internet? Just how many Ballmer sock puppets ARE there out in the wild anyway?:D

Wow, if that's true, Apple's gonna come down on the punk like a ton of ****ing bricks. That's blatantly illegal and had a detrimental effect on their stock. Somebody's gonna get worked over in court.
