Yeah, apparently so far as I can tell, the ONLY time the keyboard goes in landscape mode is in Safari. Notes, SMS, etc. the keyboard only works in portrait.

Keyboard not bad. Still getting used to it. My only problem with it is an issue of perception. I think I'm typing a "G" but end up typing an "H" instead. I have to look "dead on" at the keyboard to hit the proper keys. Besides that it seems to b e pretty damn cool. Getting used to more and more.

One other note. I have had some web pages as well as some photos stay stuck in portrait mode when trying to flip it back to landscape mode. It only happened twice. Maybe I was rotating too fast or something. Can't rereate it.

But besides that is ok . . . . . naw . . it's ****ing BRILLIANT!! So fluid, so intuitive, so freaking GORGEOUS. It's everything you believe it to be . . any more questions?? Let me know. Will be up a while "playing" . . .
:) :) :) :)

I got mine activated in 2 minutes and it was easy. Same thing about corporate discounts no longer applying though. LOVE this thing! As a long time blackberry user I can honestly say the keyboard is WAY better, you just have to trust it! :)

Can iPhone receive MMS picture/video messages from other phones?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else in the preceeding 12 pages, but does anyone know if the iPhone can receive picture/video messages from other "normal" phones? I know that you can't send a picture (and obviously video since it doesn't do that) message, but was wondering if I'd be able to receive non-emailed SMS picture messages!?!?

BTW, I got my 8GB this evening at about 7:00, took it home and got the dreaded unable to complete activation message. I'm already an AT&T customer and apparently I had a corporate discount I didn't know about. Called the # and got connected right away and was told the problem was solved (discount removed) and that it would take 15 minutes. An hour later still no luck and I had to come back to work. Hopefully it'll activate tomorrow!!!

Where the hell is the SLINGBOX app??? THAT is the killer app for this device that will force me to go buy one immediately!

already bought one but surely it is just a matter of time! i would love that.

cnn.com videos

didn't expect it to work, but tried to download Flip4Mac

"Safari can't download this file."

How long does the phone take to turn on and off? I'm wondering what the speed is like in comparison to the Blackjack (Windows mobile) which takes 48 seconds to bootup and connect to the cellphone network, and 7 seconds to power off.

I've been waiting in line since 8 AM this morning and was #3 in line at my local AT&T Store. I got my iPhone, and we initially had some trouble with activating the service through AT&T on iTunes which was extremely frustrating, but we got it all resolved and my iPhone was activated very quickly (faster than some of the other people who are currently experiencing trouble).

As far as first impressions are, I just could not stop grinning because what I've seen online and on TV since January is now finally in my hands, and my own now. It is just ... there isn't really a word to describe how awesome it is (awesome is the closest word I can find for this iPhone). I haven't tried out all of the features, and am still playing around with it a lot, but I love what I have played around with so far (especially Google Maps, like Aaron mentioned).

I've got a case coming for it soon.

It's just such an unbelievable phone. If you're considering getting one, you should really stop by a store to check it out before you buy it, but once you start using it you'll most definitely begin to like it for its user-friendliness and its sheer sexiness that Apple so beautifully pulls off, and has done excellently with this iPhone.

2 iPhones :)

Found a ATT store in Lake , fla waited for 2 hours and picked up two phones, I must say they are amazing! was only 18 in aline of 35 ppl, The phone is amazing me still...also bought a new macbook and ipod from Apple in orlando!!!!!

Only 20 units at my location...

and I was number 18! Got in line at 3:00 and number 21 arived 10 minutes later. There were 12 8gig and 8 4 gig units for sale. Yep, a small town. Good thing I wanted the 4. I have been playing with it (activated) now for hours. Piss off to all of the bashers out there. Nothing compares. Nothing.

Have to tell my story.....

I went into Barton Creek Mall (Austin, TX) at 11:40 and walked out exactly 7 minutes later with an 8 gigger. No line what so ever. Plus they still had about what seemed like 50 iPhones left. Now to activate this damned thing.....

Activation 800 #

How are you guys getting throught to ATT customer service. I have been on hold for 3.5 hours and still no one.

According to the screen I received i called 877-419-4500 and was in contact with someone within 5 minutes all 8 times I called them (see my other posts about activating a previous business account phone number)

It lives up to my expectations.

I'm not gonna lie... I had my hopes set high... and when you set your sights high you sometimes have to deal with disappointment as you've set the bar too high.

I can honestly say it lives up to everything the commercials show. My biggest surprise has been how incredibly bright the screen is. It's amazing.

What a wonderful product. I keep telling myself... "this is a phone"... but you just can't believe it. I'm very glad, VERY GLAD I got the first generation. 2nd gen whenever it comes out will be awesome but even if that comes for the holiday season I'm so glad I got my 8 gig version 1 now. I couldn't be happier. :D

Current At&T customers

For anyone that is a current customer of AT&T and just moving your number try restarting the iPhone. My old phone was still showing in service
so i restarted the iPhone. I guess the iPhone just needed to reqister on
the network and bumb my old phone out of service. :)

I hope this helps.

my first impressions: the screen is amazing, contact syncing works great, the ipod functionality is great

after 6 hours of using the iphone:

I'm already feeling like I have a hand cut off versus my BlackBerry Curve. Functionality wise its a step down right now. So many good 3rd party APPLICATIONS (not web crap) that I can use on my curve like multi-platform IM clients, Opera Mini, IRC clients, all sorts of other stuff.. and the curve is also small and light and takes great photos that are amazingly easy to email to people. Even the simplest stuff on the iPhone is TOO SIMPLE. It's so simple that I really can't tolerate not having customization on some of these applications, like - where's the camera configuration??

Right now i'm really frustrated, and I just broke a T-mobile contract for this phone. They said there's a 14 day return policy at the apple store but I have no idea whether I can get my t-mobile number back and my t-mobile account back... this sucks.

Oh, activation took 40 minutes for me. Registered chose plan, etc. Activated process. Got message that it will take longer. 40 minutes later got the email. I love the damn thing.

to those who aren't able to activate the phone or it says you pending activating or whatever. I just got off the phone with att and the woman now says its a 24 hour period of activation...i'm tempted to just swap the sim to my old phone because it works fine but not sure if this will slow the activation period

What time does the apple store close tonight?

Does anyone know what time the Apple stores close tonight? I can't take it any longer . . . I must have one!

just got it
love it and will post pics and vids over at the other places
including review and at my blog
HD also

10pm

sprint?

how is sprint handling porting numbers over to at&t? you just enter your number and go? does it take a while?

cant wait to get mine!

I'm not easily impressed but geez!!!

I have playing with it for an hour now and I think I've snorted in disbelief at least 5 times. The freakin thing just knows what I want it to do! Its familiar in the sense of being like a Mac but it feels so foreign (in a good way) because I'm used to 10 years of crappy phones you had to think about how to use.

Best moments

1. The sheer guy of the multi-touch. Like wise man said...."Its like butter". It just glides. The zooming works great on the maps and on safari. Rather than battling with the thing to tell it what you want, it just knows.

2. The ease with which everything is suddenly synced. Compared to my Treo, what a treat. Everything transitions so nicely.

3. Effortlessly flicking thru contacts and songs. Feels as revolutionary as when I got my first iPod.

4. First time I connected to maps and zoomed all the way into my home. Yeah, I can do that on my macbook but I'm doing it on my phone! And it's not crap like on the Treo.

5. The screen is so gorgeous. How the heck did they make this screen? Amazing resolution and brightness (cripes, its too bright on the highest setting). The touch aspect is sooooo sensitive. Yet the surface is so solid. I can't quite describe it but the Treo just feels and looks so plasticky in comparison. When I was in line at the Apple Store, one of the sales guys was getting a customer to try to scratch the glass with his keys. Not a scratch. Did I mention the screen is nice?

Some other things.

Listening to my first song on the external speaker...sounds great!

Nice weight, just substantial enough without being bulky.

Nice, tasteful ringtones. May seem like a small thing but not really when I hear someone else's phone ring and I think I'm in a techno club.

Only con....keyboard is taking longer to get used to than I'd thought.

I'm sure I'll think of more soon.

Oh, I know quite a few people have had trouble with activation. I switched from T-Mobile and the whole process to activation happened in 10 minutes at around 10PM PST.

Enjoy your phones everyone!
