READ if you are leaving Verizon

I'm not really patient when I am eager to try something new...Never has that been more true than tonight with the iPhone. Waiting 24 hours for Verizon to cancel my plan wasn't an option. I called AT&T to expedite the process (lucky got mine fast and called at 6:15 before the insanity). They called Verizon to port the old number to them. Verizon responded that my account number was incorrect and refused to work with them. I called Verizon and discovered that there was a mystery "0" that has never shown up on any statement in front of the account number. I called AT&T and gave them the update. They then quickly activated my phone. I would have never known this if not for calling Verizon. Please call and check for yourself...otherwise it could be more than 24 hours of looking at that brilliantly beautiful iPhone and not using it.

P.S. AT&T has been great thus far and incredibly helpful and professional. Verizon...not so much!!!

Another Verizon switcher here. The email that said I needed to wait for activation was sent at 6:59pm, and it's now 8:41pm with no email. Phone is locked (except emergency calls), even though it says you should still be able to "enjoy the other features of your iPhone."

Kinda blows. Was the LAST person in the Sandusky Ohio AT&T Store to get an 8 Gig iPhone.

I'm enjoying sliding the little slider. At least I got THAT going for me......which is nice...

i got my email in like 3 minutes ... itjust looked identical to the screen that shows your new phone number. it was in my spam trap

Still waiting

nope.. i'm still waiting.. been about 30 min or so i believe. i'm transferng.. from verizon... everything flew by up until the activation part.

I am transferring from T-Mobile, and I am having the problem as well. My guess is that anyone "porting" a number from another carrier will have this issue. I am currently on the house phone with a sweetheart of a rep from AT&T, who is in turn addressing my issues with the activation people. We'll see what transpires.

Apparently, it says in the FAQ, when you get the "it takes more time" screen, that you can begin using all of the features of your iPhone now. My phone still says activate despite this..... AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!! So far, I have a very expensive, and time-consuming TEASE.

Forever To Activate

OK, so it has taken at least 2 hours thus far to activate and nothing yet in terms of an email saying my activation is complete. I honestly think that they were as prepared for this as they should have been. I'll bet the AT & T servers are going nutzo right now . Its sucks that I can't do crap on the phone until activation... I mean nothing at all, not to mention that my "before iPhone" phone is now functioning only in emergency mode... as I don't have any other means of communication, I'm screwed until I get the "good to go" email from at and t... I hope that its at least by tomorrow morning... I have sh_t to do... This phone is sooo cool though... I mean I just like looking at it....

Yes, when you first turn it on it even tells you that you need to activate on iTunes. And there is a "slide for emergency" bar at the bottom. haha

I'm actually having a problem. The activitation screen in iTunes has not come for me... I want to activiate it and havn't been able to yet.. It just says no signal, though my other cell phone has signal..

I didn't get any e-mail yet from the AT&T store.. was I supposed to?

Also - even though I didn't activate it yet... I was able to sync with itunes and surf with wifi....

This thing looks really nice. I'll probably get v2 because my verizon contract isn't up until March 08. :D

It's awesome it's awesome 100x

no issues with activation. i got two 8gb phones. was 30th in line at the towson, md apple store. they had TONS of iphones.. i counted at least 500 in the floor..don't know what was in the back.

I am porting from Verizon...anyone get this email???

Phone service is scheduled to be disconnected on your current phone at or after 8:52 PM EDT on June 30. Please check your email and be prepared to reconnect and activate your iPhone before that time. Please call 877-800-3701 if you'd like to make other arrangements.

What's the deal? Do I need to call them?

Bollicks, I can't even sign up where I live (Arcata, CA). I guess I could circumvent the system by signing up using a different zip code, but that seems like too much trouble. Another reason to wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation iPhone (by the time it comes out, I'll be living in a bigger city).

Waiting for my activation for 30 mins... Cant even use my OLD phone... I AM PISSED!!!!! I cant believe they deactivate my old phone and cant even use the new one. ATT SUX!

Let me guess... you're 16 years old. Right? Uh... or is it less? I suggest you take a walk, go play with your dog, or just take a nap. Life will go on and you won't be bothered by this a year from now.

Verizon transfer

I, too, received the dreaded "Your activation requires additional time to complete." and the e-mail stating "Phone service is scheduled to be disconnected on your current phone at or after 8:06 PM EDT on June 30. Please check your email and be prepared to reconnect and activate your iPhone before that time. Please call 877-800-3701 if you'd like to make other arrangements."

I read the above post about calling them to see what's up, hoping that they'd tell me the account number was wrong, etc. Unfortunately, in calling the number, I got a hard-line that EVERYONE had to wait 24 hours to transfer their phone number. WTF? I told her that even in the setup it states that you would be able to place calls, etc. while waiting for the number to transfer but would be able to place calls on the iPhone in the meantime.

Anyone have any info? It's really going to peeve me if I have to wait until tomorrow night to use this thing.

This thing is awesome. And I'll buy the next generation as soon as
it comes out!

Easy to activate too-never thought customer service existed in the
cellular business.

No I am NOT 16.. I am just a travelling consultant that uses my phone every hour of the day (including weekends). So here I am about ready to head out of town for work w/o a working phone.

Tell me if your phone was your lifeblood and responsible for your income, would you be so happy with them turning off the phone. Hey I dont care about waiting to use my new phone, but dont turn off my old one until I can use it.

I just got off the Phone with AT&T, evidently it is a wide-spread issue. She said to wait 6 hours from when you tried to activate:eek: and we should be able to utilize our phones, finally. Mine is still locked as well. The activations are bottlenecked. You think they'd have thought of this.......

In my wait for an activation email...checked my AT&T account via their site and noticed I had a small, overdue balance despite having paid a few days ago. Paid that off hoping that might have something to do with the delay. Nothing yet.

At least you were told 6 hours, the gal I spoke with said 24 hours and that EVERYONE who was transferring their line HAD to wait that long.

Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot!

Talk about a buzz-kill.

I believe on AT&T's website they have a FAQ that expressly states that if you are switching carriers it can take up to six hours.

Then you should have waited on activating until you were sure there were no activation problems. If your phone is your lifeblood, then you have to be cautious, especially on the launch of the biggest phone product in the history of the industry.

Oh well, too late now, just gotta wait.

My first post from my new iPhone! Keyboarding will take a while to get used to, but if I can get this proficient after just a few minutes, I think it should be amazing in a week or two!
