When Apple finally gets rid of the notch and Dynamic Island, I wonder if there will be an option in Settings to still display some alerts, timer notifications, etc. using an appearing/disappearing Dynamic Island if you want.

SE's have sort of always been like that upon release, relatively modern guts inside a dated design (which ironically is still current), & single camera for a sharp price. Upon release they're exceptional value; but they have long lifecycles so by the end they're pretty dated and their price never really drops much during the 2-3 years they're sold.
I'd say the second and third gen SE's were pretty significantly different from the iPhone 11 and 13 that they were released alongside, but the first one was like a mini 6S, kind of like this rumor.

Thank goodness for no notch. I’m hoping that turns out to be true.

ONE camera though?!

All SE's so far are single camera. It's one of the tradeoffs you have to make for the substantially lower price.

Could they make it dual camer?a Sure. How much would it really costs apple to do so? Probably like 5 bucks per phone, but they won't do it because it's a point of differentiation from the main line of iphones. Want two or more cameras? pony up for it.

Having only one camera is a terrible decision because this product will probably have a decent demographic and without a second camera there won't be spatial photos/video, which doesn't help them build up that ecosystem that Apple Vision Pro is really kind of lacking. I hate when Apple makes decisions like that.
The Vision Pro is targeting a completely different customer than the SE, assumption probably being that if you find a Vision Pro worth purchasing then you can do the same with a regular or pro model for spatial video as well.

Perhaps if/when they make an Apple Vision (not Pro) they will consider bringing the ultra wide camera to the SE line.

One cam is more than enough. Need 3? Get 3 SE 😆. I'm for soo long a member of macrumors. In all those years i read maybe 3 or 4 times, that peoples got they're pro's bec they used it professionally. Most peoples here just cry for better tech (they anyway never use it). I do come now from a XR for many reasons. Even for me would change that phone very little. I'll wait for the Air and make my decision later.

Will the camera on the iPhone SE 4 (to be relased in 2025) be the exact same as the main camera on the current flagship iPhone 16 Pro (released in 2024)?

The camera on the iPhone SE 1 (released in 2016) was the exact same as the main camera on the flagship at the time, which was the iPhone 6s (relaesed in 2015). But Tim Cook, being the greedy corporate scumbag he is, was constantly looking for ways to give customers less for their money in order to maximize profits for shareholders. Therefore, the iPhone SE 2 (released in 2020) had the exact same camera as the main camera on the on the iPhone 8 (relased in 2017). It was an old camera that was released two generations prior. But Cook's greed didn't stop there. He became even greedier. The iPhone SE 3 (released in 2022) had the exact same camera as the main camera on the iPhone 8 (released in 2017). It was an old camera released four geneations prior.

Maybe this will be new base iPhone 17 with lower starting price. No more SE. Then we will have Air and Pro. Apple might do it to differentiate, no?

Exactly my thoughts. They need people creating 3D content for Vision.

Exactly my thoughts. Iphone Air fits not in the system at all. So - SE, Air plus 2x Pro. But on the other hand; Ipads are a mixed up mess too...

Guys... you are forgetting - this has the Apple modem in it. So you lose Qualcomm + mmWave. I know a lot of people on this forum at least that would pony up extra to avoid that stuff.

You are correct and that’s why it’s asinine. I think the Galaxy A line has three cameras for around the same price.

You don’t have to be a professional to appreciate the extra zoom options. I use the ultra wide and also the 5x telephoto all the time for casual use.

Samsung is putting three cameras on their A-series phones which compete in the same price bracket as the SE.

I wonder what the trade-offs will be compared to the base 16, because this will 100% replace the 14 and 15.

- One camera
- Apple modem/no mmWave
- Probably no U1/U2 chip? Or if anything it'll get the U1
- No action button
- No camera control

I really don't think this will ditch the Dynamic Island or MagSafe, especially if it's based off the iPhone 14. I also don't think they'll ditch Face ID for a side button Touch ID solution a la iPad, because that hasn't been done on an iPhone and the SE is the last place where they'd develop a new component like that.

My worries are that Apple will do something *really* drastic to keep prices low, like starting at 64GB storage or using an LCD screen.

Looks like Apple is not going to change the name. Would have liked it to be 16E. Was thinking that it might end up getting refreshed every year if it was named a part of 16 series. Hopefully there will be some colour choices this year. Product Red might be discontinued.
