I don't think anyone disputes that a barometer has some level of utility. Or that its inclusion would be ideal, all else being equal. They are not JUST one persons views. Many others including me share the same obvious concerns about the missing barometer in relation to what was recently mentioned. And much more as well.
To recap:
[...]
I don't think anyone disputes that a barometer has some level of utility. Or that its inclusion would be ideal, all else being equal.
But the SE is not a "flagship" device. It's not priced like one, it's not advertised like one, it's not supposed to be one. So certain features found on the "flagship" are necessarily going to be excluded. I get that you don't think the barometer should have been on that list, but what exclusion would you be ok with? 4K video? The A9? Touch ID? Apple Pay?
It's a midrange device with a midrange price point: 2/3 the cost of the 6s. As such, it doesn't have every single feature the 6s has.
It's like the MacBook Air, which is roughly 2/3 the cost of the 13" pro. Obviously, the pro offers more. At considerably greater cost. Assess what's important to you, and buy accordingly. And please remember that what seems crucial to you may seem downright irrelevant to someone else. Not because they're stupid, but because they have different needs, and maybe a different budget.
Sure, that's fair. As I posted yesterday, there are certain things that make certain devices hard "no-buys" for me, too. Like standalone gps on a smart watch.Flagship device or not. I like a few others here feel in 2016 a barometric pressure sensor unless the earth is losing its atmosphere at a prolific rate that I don't know aboutshould be standard. It's one of the first things i look for on a phone.
Maybe we are in the minority ?
And you should vote with your dollars. A mid-range android with all of the bells and whistles that you want, should be easily aquireable. Nobody is debating the utility, but as @QCassidy352 said above the view the phone is not worth it for anyone is just not realistic.Flagship device or not. Maybe we are in the minority ? But I am very careful in this charged climatic economy about my investments. That goes for 3rd party sellers in the future as well.![]()
I'm quite done rewarding behemoth companies like apple for bad behavior.

It's just nowhere close to heartbreaking or dreadful for the vast majority.Just wanted to say I've been watching this thread with great anxiety and I was also very surprised as well Apple left out the barometer.
I completely disagree that this is a unrealistic assumption.
Given the nature of everything we know sensors can do today pulling double duty and things to that effect it's heartbreaking to see apple make such a dreadful mistake.
It's also equally heartbreaking that people here are defending apple.
Indeed. Can we step back from the ledge here? maybe take a second and think about what we're saying before using words like "heartbreaking" and "dreadful" to describe an absent sensor on a cell phone? It's just nowhere close to heartbreaking or dreadful for the vast majority.
Not defending Apple as much as promoting some sense if perspective. Apple is under no obligation to produce hardware to support any crowd sourced applications. let's be realistic.Just wanted to say I've been watching this thread with great anxiety and I was also very surprised as well Apple left out the barometer.

I mean, think whatever you want about barometers, but my goodness, let's have a little perspective regarding what is (and isn't!) at stake with this issue, huh?

The hyperbolic reactions to something like that from some definitely seem to be far worse.Sorry I just don't see it that way. I think it's a tragedy they left the barometer out of the SE.
It's like building a beautiful Lamborghini and leaving out the suicide doors.
You're talking about obligations where most people in this thread are talking about value.
I think you are limiting yourself a bit. Selling yourself short possibly?

You're right, it's far worse.
Not really. The 5se seems to be a best seller and therefore people have already voted with their wallets. The consumers already see the value. Given the se seems to sold out in a lot of stores I'm going to take a leap of faith and suggest it is selling briskly. We know there will always be returns and it's the name of the game. Apple will do what Apple will do.I think you need to revisit whatever source you are basing those figures on. As we are already starting to see in this thread much like now the returns we are seeing at the apple stores asking were 3D Touch is, the ideology of buyer$ is shifting towards devices with more options.
Apple might not be under any obligation right now, but they could certainly stand to save face with people who invest with them in the long term.

I don't think that will ever happen and I'm not sure why you think government would get involved in a feature by feature basis. And the math is fuzzy I admit by your estimate also, and if this model is a dud because there is no barometer, Apple will cease selling it and it serves no purpose anyway as a crowd sourced facilitator. Then let me equally suggest a lot of what you see in their stores is hype, controlled leaks and 'fuzzy' math.
You have to wonder at what point the powers that be start calling them out on all of it.
They have suggested consumers take into question how much power their governments have over their information, maybe they should take care of governments starting to question how much power authorities have over their grand design.
Let's be realistic now, and not exaggerate.Well you never know.
This thread has made it through 12 pages of exaggeration and hyperbole; why would it change course now?Let's be realistic now, and not exaggerate.

Where that is known and basically expected to be the case, as with any advertising/marketing.The only hyperbole I see is from apple at their stores and in their ads.
Get a Casio Protrek.
Baro on those is more accurate than the one in the iPhone anyway.
SE in your pocket, Barometric sensor, Altimeter and compass on your wrist.
What use is an iPhone if you're hiking when the battery goes flat ?
Great thread. Great reading ! LOL

I just came back from a few days hiking in the middle of nowhere. We had no cell service for most of that time. Lack of a barometer was the least of our worries. If you really NEED a barometer or GPS for hiking you would be much better off with dedicated units.
As said now i think for the 4th or fifth time, the barometer embedded in the phone itself can be used as a aid to location services and help save battery life. You read the thread? Did you read all of it?
By the way: nice watch my brother has one!
