32GB iPhone 3G is coming on 24th July, also exclusive to O2 and priced at £209.

yeah sure....

i assume apple just released a new iphone knowing they will have to give angry customers some sort of compensation for announcing a larger more in demand phone so soon after the 16gb..

not happening...

But wait, Apple has said something new is coming on the 24th? Because I'm in the market for a new MBP and if they have, that's what it is.

Just got back from my local O2 store, they were expecting a delivery this morning, but it didnt arrive, so they're now expecting it tomorrow morning. They dont know if its 8GBs or 16GBs though.

the apple store iQueue was nice and long - around 25 upstairs
and another 10 in the pre-queue-queue downstairs.

everyone looked rather glum. not at all sunny and 73F.

i must admit i was convinced i wanted a white one
but looking at them side by side - i now prefer black. who knew!!

mac

( yes my name is actually macintosh )

o2 can ram it, why do I have to wait and wait for them to get their act together when apple have stock but cant do upgrades, I should be allowed to cancel my contract and buy an iphone on a new contract at the store.

look at the queue!!

apple can barely sell new ones!!

Was this the queue in Regent street?

Anyone know what the queues have been like at the Kingston store, might pop up their on Saturday but don't fancy having to wait around for hours (especially with 2 little ones)

i think i am going to head down 2moro morning. what time did u get there? if i get there just after 9, u think ill be able to get one?

Brent Cross Apple Store

Hi,

does anyone know what the line-ups are like at the Brent Cross Apple Store? Was thinking about heading up there after work this evening to try for a black 16gb..

Nearly had one at Islington O2 today - guy in line in front of me got the last one!

Apple has not released sufficient stock to O2 - the latter asked for a lot more, but Apple said no.

How do you know that's the case?

Given the level of competence of British management, I can almost hear this conversation taking place one month ago:

Apple: So, how many 3G iPhones do you think you'll need at lanuch?

O2: We'll take x 8 GB and y 16 GB units, please.

Apple: Really? Are you sure that's enough? We were expecting you'd want nx 8 GB and ny 16 GB units.

O2: No, thank you very much! We listened to you last time and look what happened. We had stock hanging round for ages!

Apple: OK, then. One more thing. Shall we just split your 16 GB order 50/50 black and white?

O2: What??? You're doing WHITE ONES??? But all our publicity material's done now! We can't get that all done again.

Apple: OK, then. You'd better just have the black ones for now.

O2: ...

And this one, one week ago:

O2: HELP!!! We need more iPhones!!!

Apple: We'll do what we can but it's going to take a while. Everything comming off of the production lines for the next fortnight is spoken for

16Gb phones in stock (Edinburgh)

the Ocean Terminal o2 store unexpectedly got new stock in today, which included a handful (6 I think) of the 16Gb phones... of which my wife and I grabbed one each. The staff said they hadn't been expecting stock at all. The 16s were all gone by the time I'd finished doing the paperwork for my upgrade, but they had plenty of 8s left. So if you are in Edinburgh... try your luck, other stores may have them too, but be quick!

I think 02 will receive about 3 more iPhones 3G this afternoon. They will dissect them and share the components through out the UK. I'll be queuing soon to see it I can get the Home Button -- but i'll be happy with the volume control or the silver rim.

I'm tempted to buy an 8gb today.. then take it back next week or the week after when I can get an 16gb..

That'll teach O2 a lesson :D

Just upgraded my original to 8Gb at O2 Store in Islington, London. Took about 15 minutes. There was no queue.

I used to write a lot about mobile phone and wireless technologies – I was also involved in a number of projects and events sponsored by companies, such as O2. Although I’m not involved in that area, I’ve kept a lot of contacts as I made a lot of friends and maintained links on a social level… plus, I never know when I might need them again!

As such, I’m able to get people to talk off the record to me.

If you check my previous posts, I did warn out that UK stocks were lower than had been requested a week before the launch. I did this because I had been warned that stock was lower than requested.

In the week of launch came the bombshell… I started hearing the actual numbers. These came from a number of sources.

Before anyone asks, I will not post exact details – it was given off the record and I’m not going to break a professional confidence to impress strangers on a forum or to persuade them that I’m telling the truth.

I did think people might be interested in the fact that they were not going to be ‘a few dozen handsets per store’ and although I knew most people (myself included) were going to be disappointed, I thought some people who may have decided ‘no biggie, I’ll pop along late on Friday as I can’t be bothered to queue in the morning’ would have liked a more accurate picture of the situation.

I used to freelance for a couple of Mac magazine and was a staff member on another. I would say I know Apple as a company pretty well – although I met some lovely people, for every sound vice-president I interviewed, there was another that wasn’t… in fact as executives go, I found more than a few at Apple to be amongst the most unpleasant and arrogant people I’ve ever had had to deal with professionally. This view was pretty much echoed by most companies that had dealings or worked with Apple.

With some review kit, there was one unit to be shared amongst four different magazines – and sometimes it was easier getting a reseller to loan you one. As for the press office, it was easier to get blood out of a stone than it was to get information…or even a ‘no comment.’

I love the products, but I sure as hell don’t miss having to deal with the company.

If you don’t believe me, that’s cool – we can always go with ‘T’ch shocking British management, isn’t Apple perfect?’ line.

Got My iPhone 16gb.

I went into the 02 store at half 11 at lincoln in the waterside, asked if they had the iphone 16gb in, thinkin they wouldnt cos of what isaw on the website, and it turns out, they had loads.
Walked out 15mins later with it, and there was a queue of about 7, 8 waiting to get the same.
if you live in lincoln, my advice to you is, go now.

This is teh internets. We'll have none of your rational arguments here...

Besides, my version is much more amusing! :)
