The O2 I was in today didn't have white ones (not that I'd want a white one, personally!). Are there any at all in the UK yet?

Called into the Bluewater apple store this morning (I got there around 8:45 am). Three people were in the store being credit checked, one guy in the queue just before me and then another person came in while I was waiting.

By 9:20 I had a 16GB black iphone \o/ :D

The guy said it was the first day they haven't had a queue when they opened - they have loads of white 16GB, loads of 8 black and a fair few 16 black apparantly.

There are white ones, but only at Apple stores. None for the foreseeable future for o2, although I would guess they may come in, say, September/October.

went to the apple store in the bullring, birmingham, there were no queues and they still had quite a few from what i could see. there were two people who were just registering.

The o2 'stores with stock' list is pretty long today, and most of them are showing 16Gb in stock too. Maybe the tide is turning.

ok.. i been out the loop for about 3 weeks, sans internet, back on the planet now and i dont know whats going on with the 3g phone.. can you only get it from 02 or carphone in uk? ie, is this thing gonna be extremely difficult and expensive to find and use with other sim cards? i sold my first gen iphone and now im kicking myself a bit.. :(

I phoned around 4 stores in Essex and the shop in Bluewater Kent around 4pm today and all had sold out.

On a separate note - phoned o2 about my Simplicity Sim card (wifes) and according to the chap - all I need to do is purchase one from Apple STore as a new account and then phone o2 who will transfer the details so I can keep my number.

Great! But then I told him I also had an 18month iPhone account too and he said I could do exactly the same with that.

At this point I stopped believing him :(

02 store in cardiff had sold out and so did the ones in bridgend and swansea by the time i could get to one.

Has anyone heard about any stock arriving at 02 stores tomorrow (sat)?

Every time I head that my local Apple Store has loads of the white iPhone in stock, but I can't upgrade there, it makes me want to remove an O2 executive's eyes with a spoon. It's f***ing ridiculous that O2 have next to no stock, and yet the phone I want is sitting in an Apple Store with no one to love it....

Didn't O2 think that most people who would want to upgrade to the iPhone 3G would be those of us who bought the original iPhone in the first place? They really should've made more available for us to upgrade.

Guys - I'm not trying to be a troll here - but do you really think its worth upgrading for? I have worked it out and its gonna cost me an extra £380 over the course of the contract for GPS and 3G, how are you guys justifying it to yourselves, or are you just like.... screw it.... :) (done that before - usually followed by buyers remorse)

Totally agree. I'm here at Brent Cross and I can't upgrade at 02 or CW nut the Apple store has frigging lots! They are all a bunch of idiots!

If you're on simplicity plan, best thing is to just go into the apple store, set up as a new customer, then call o2 and they'll convert it into an upgrade. You might even be able to do this with a longer contract - but advisable to check first with the iphone team 0870678678 i think from memory...

They're converting the peoplee who are cancelling contracts to come to the apple store as a new customer, and converting those into upgrades effectively.
Bit of a hassle, but at least you have an iPhone in your hand, and the only thing to wait for is the activation...

You know that it is Apple who controls the stock, not O2, right?

Yes, but it is O2 that made the decision to NOT allow Apple Stores to upgrade 1st Gen iPhone customers.

I can't believe there was somebody on here a couple of weeks ago, claiming to have "a contact in O2" and that all existing customers and those that had pre-registered were "going to get a VIP pass" in order to reserve their iPhone and pick it up in store easily. It couldn't be any further from the truth!

Personally, I'm not bothering to 'upgrade' but I don't see where your figures come from. The upgrade would be free/£99 or £159 pounds extra. The length of contract is immaterial as you need a contract with someone so it might as well be O2.

Aww gutting mate. Like I said at 2pm they said they had loads and that they hadnt been that busy with iPhone sales.

How do you work out an extra £380. Your already in contract with O2 if you want to upgrade, so it is only literally the cost of the phone dependant on your contract. For example, it cost me £159.

The 'extra £380' is a moot point for me. I am going to own an iPhone for the foreseeable future, so how many months I add onto the contract is immaterial. It's going to cost me £59 for a new phone with 3G/GPS/extra 8GB phone - yes please!

O2 have just taken down the stock checker from their website and replaced it with the "stock is coming in weekly, we have no idea how to conduct a successful product launch" crap again.

Tried phoning Barking o2 as they were stated as in stock this morning. Tried for about 3 hours and phone was just ringing. On 5 occasions someone did pick up only to put the phone down straight away

So drove down there around 12 oclock to chance my luck and no stock. Not only that but the sales staff were just standing around ignoring the ringing phones!:mad:

Anyway, did have a look at the black demo and compared with my 1st gen, have to admit that what with the hassle of trying to upgrade and liking the look of the 1st gen - I am getting more and more tempted to stick with my original 8GB and wait for a 32gb version - As I really just want extra capacity and 3G would be a bonus but not essential. The longer I have to wait the less the appeal of this new black or white version
