The only con I can think of is that if it's a CMDA only phone. That would cause problems for me traveling internationally where the current GMS iPhone is useful. Hopefully it would have both CMDA and GMS radios.

Oh and you wouldn't be able to use data and voice at the same time (unless Apple and Verison figure out a workaround for this limitation).

True.
The talk and data at once would be a drawback and also if it doesnt have both CDMA and GMS tech it wouldnt work as a world phone.
Not many other major cons I could think of.

 So you have AT&T now and would jump on Verizon to get the iPhone? You have Verizon now and are worried about traveling with a CDMA phone?

If you're on AT&T now with the iPhone why not just keep the iPhone if you travel and port your number to to Verizon and pick up a second (CDMA this time) iPhone.

If you're currently on Verizon and just want the iPhone to come to you, what do you do for travel now?

IPhone 3G on AT&T now.

Although I might want to go to Verison when it's time to get a new iPhone to get a better network AND be able to travel with a single iPhone.

There's no way I'm going to buy two iPhones or keep my 3G to use when I travel (mostly since I'd buy a new model with more than my current 16GB and the extra space is particularly useful when traveling so I can load up media before the trip).

So a CMDA only iPhone isn't likely to appeal to me.

cons:

these threads coming up every few hours..

"verizon got the iphone, t-mobile next?"
"can i use my verizon iphone on tmobile?"
"verizon or at&t?"
"where's the iphone nano?"
"can i take my verizon sim card and put it in my at&t iphone?"

I hear you. Hopefully we will see more BOGO deals on Cellphones in general.
I think a few BB phones and the Pre have been on those type of deals before.

BB and the Pre have had those very nice deals on everyone but AT&T.

Smart phones did not get my attention until I got to play with my brothers Blackjack II. The iPhone never appealed to me at all but the blackjack and the Blackjack II really got my attention and I started looking at them more closely.

I will say in the pass 3 years I have not seen any really good deals on smart phones from AT&T. All the phones get is $250 off max from the retail pricing. On the other carries they will offer 350+ off. Now the iPhone on AT&T has been getting 400 off its retail price. I would be happy is AT&T would at least match that deal for all the smart phones.

10 million, huh? That's one for every 6 Verizon customers.

Assuming it's for Verizon, that would be about one out of every eight Verizon customers, which is the same ratio of iPhone users that AT&T has.

(And even though there are roughly 10 million activated ATT iPhones right now, over the course of three iPhone models ATT customers have actually bought around 20 million iPhones total because of upgrading.)

That said, a "factory order" for 10 million doesn't mean they'll really build or sell that many. It just tells them to get ready to build that many if needed. For example, the first order to Foxconn for the original iPhone was reportedly for around 12 million, even though only 6 million were actually made.

.

10 million seems like a very "optimistic" number, and Apple has to really believe AT&T's limited coverage is the only reason why the number of their new subscribers is stagnant.

There has to be a confusion of sort, maybe the article is referring to the "total" amount of iPhones in production including both GSM and CDMA version.

I don't think Apple is naive enough to think Verizon can actually sell 10 million iPhones.

This is a contract for potential manufacturing for an entire year. Not 10 million all in one run.

Interesting how you can speculate a speculation to such extent.

Besides the point, which is all just entertainment from the rumorville.

I'm not speculating on speculation. I'm simply reciting how typical factory contracts work based on past experience.

Edit: See KDarling's post above. He seems to know how it works as well.
