I assume you use the same steps as if you were buying on contract or outright, and you'll be given an option to reserve a spot to go to the store for the upgrade program.

i cant see this on apple app. and website is still down.

i just made my reservations...so it appears that they will be giving out the GSM model for AT&T/T-Mo and the CDMA for Verizon/Sprint... not just using the Verizon/Sprint model which would work on all four (save band 30 AT&T). kind of bummed about that.... one of the appeals of this was switching carriers any time i thought, but not going to be possible if currently on AT&T/TMo (unless the CDMA really is in those phones)

I just called Apple store online and was told that it WILL NOT reserve a phone for you. Then I called one of local Apple stores and the guy was clueless. This is all so new that nobody seems to be sure how it's going to be handled. I've been told a few times now that making an appointment to do the Annual Upgrade option will not hold a phone for you. I'm still checking, but I don't think we will know for sure until 12:01AM
As we all know by now, the reservation process does indeed hold a phone for you. I will be picking mine up on 9/25 at 8AM.

I bought through ATT and made a reservation. I was told I could pay in full in the store.

I made my reservation. Got this in the confirmation email.

What should I expect when I arrive at the store?
When you come in for your reservation, let a Specialist know you’re there to pick up your iPhone. To enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program, you’ll need to provide the information listed above so that we can help you with the application process for the installment agreement, including a credit check, and activation of your iPhone. We can also help you with Personal Setup and answer all your questions. If you’re purchasing iPhone with a carrier plan, please allow at least 30 minutes to complete your purchase.
What do I need to bring?
To apply for the iPhone Upgrade Program you will need a current US credit card, your Social Security number and two forms of identification.
Can someone else pick up my reservation?
Items can be picked up only by the wireless account holder and people authorized on that account.
Can I change the iPhone Upgrade Program to a different purchase option?
You can also purchase your iPhone through carrier financing or at full price. Ask a Specialist in store for more information.
Can I change or cancel my reservation?
You can’t change or cancel your reservation online. However, if you’d like to change the model you reserved, a Specialist can check the availability of a different iPhone when you come in at your scheduled time. Due to high demand, the availability of some models and reservation times may be limited.
What if I’m late for my reservation time?
If you’re late, or if you miss your scheduled time altogether, we may not be able to hold the model you reserved, and you may have to make another reservation. So please arrive as close to your check-in window as possible.

So I made two reservations frantically but realized I can't actually make the time I signed up for (I'd be half an hour late) - is there any way to change it?

And say if you reserved from 5:00-5:30, will they release your phone exactly at 5:31, or is there a grace period at all?

Sucks, had no idea you couldn't change it or I would have looked at my schedule more closely.

I'm glad they had the Rose Gold available for reservations this year, last year the Gold model was so scarce a lot of people were upset.

Well that was much easier than last year. I haven't decided i have a reservation for the 25th. I have a regular full price order in as well as I didn't see where to do the upgrade program first. So thanks for the link @parkds!

Same here - Have tried logging in 100+ times across three devices. Will keep trying I guess.
I had the same problem and was going insane..it's if you have an older iTunes password that is not secure enough. Go here to manage your account: https://www.apple.com/support/appleid/manage-account/

Change your password to something more secure (i just added a capital letter, numbers & special character to be safe)

Go back to the page where you're getting stuck with the login & you should be good to go when logging in with your new password.
