Received the email as well... either a REALLY sick joke, or bad a**! And I totally agree, this would be a nice 'smooth over' for the pre-order chaos. Let's hope!
Even if it was automated, someone had to write the e-mail right? Unless the message is a template and the word 'iPhone' is just a variable. Has anyone ever gotten the same type of e-mail after ordering from apple.com, but with a different item?
No, no, no. More like Apple sat back and watched as they got even more sales. Remember the old saying, "Any advertising is good advertising"? Apple got some advertising alright...

When the 23rd comes, and no one gets an iPhone, then I give you full permission to say "i told you so."
But for now, why be a buzzkill?
Now, if this turns out to be the case, the better joke to play on this 'hackers' part would have been to e-mail us and claim that all of our orders won't make it until the 25th.
THAT would have been a trick.
This just seems... pointless, at best.
Thats a possibility, I mostly was just trying to say that, that mistake wasn't proof of it being a computer error. There are too many reasons that that mistake could of been made.
I'm not saying they didn't make sales! Or even get good advertisement out of it.
I'm saying they got a beating from the fanboys.
There was nothing negative about the coverage Apple got. It was mentioned repeatedly that it was AT&Ts servers that couldn't handle all the DEMAND for Apples latest iPhone, and despite the issues they had record sales. I doubt Apple is trying to avoid more press of that nature.

Were I a hacker I would get your hopes up and then smash them and laugh at the forums' grief.
Apple doesn't give a **** about fanboys. Fanboys buy the product regardless of the screwing Apple gives them.
I don't care if my phone comes on Wednesday or Thursday. The point is, it's coming, so jokes on them.
I'll even go further... If I get my phone on Wednesday, I won't open it up until Thursday.

I just received this email as well. My order status always showed the 23rd as the delivery date though.
On another note, I have a Chrome add on called Rapportive, and it shows the email address being from a guy in the UK. His picture is of him shirtless...so is this some kind of joke?
But when I click on the link it goes to store.apple.com so it can't be a phishing scheme can it?

You're missing my point. I'm saying the people were less than thrilled about last week. I'm not saying Apple cares.
