Why? Humans make more mistakes than computers do.
And the human error in this is that someone didn't proofread the email.

WHEN is this new going on the front page? Engadget beat MacRumors to the punch nearly an hour ago on this.
me thinks this is apple's nice gesture for the preorder mess
So, Apple and their friends take a beating for 6 days.
I'm sorry, I didn't realize that it was either agree with you or leave.
There is a thread theorizing that a hacker got your eMails(like the iPad breach) and is tricking all of you right now. I'm more prone to believe that this was a mistake but...
And the human error in this is that someone didn't proofread the email.
No, no, no. More like Apple sat back and watched as they got even more sales. Remember the old saying, "Any advertising is good advertising"? Apple got some advertising alright...

Hope I get my e-mail soon! Also, this makes complete sense...it spreads out the load on the servers so that the 24th isn't a total nightmare.
I would also like to point out that on my apple store page it no longer says it will be delivered on the 24th like it has the last few days. (Even after it shipped).
Anyone else thinking about perusing down to their local Apple Store on the 23rd after they get their iPhone 4 to do a little gloating?![]()
Now, if this turns out to be the case, the better joke to play on this 'hackers' part would have been to e-mail us and claim that all of our orders won't make it until the 25th.
THAT would have been a trick.
This just seems... pointless, at best.

I'm not saying they didn't make sales! Or even get good advertisement out of it.
I'm saying they got a beating from the fanboys.
Were I a hacker I would get your hopes up and then smash them and laugh at the forums' grief.
To Our Valued Apple Customer:
Thank you for your recent order with Apple.
Our records indicate that your iPhone 3G S pre-order has shipped.
Our carrier's website may have displayed an incorrect delivery
date for your order. However, we expect your iPhone order to be
delivered on time on June 19, 2009.

Apple doesn't give a **** about fanboys. Fanboys buy the product regardless of the screwing Apple gives them.
I just received this email as well. My order status always showed the 23rd as the delivery date though.
On another note, I have a Chrome add on called Rapportive, and it shows the email address being from a guy in the UK. His picture is of him shirtless...so is this some kind of joke?
But when I click on the link it goes to store.apple.com so it can't be a phishing scheme can it?
