Folks, I suspect this is a hoax... Looking at the headers from trusted apple emails (apple store, wwdc, announcements, etc), the message-id for all of them contain the apple domain and the .com top level domain. For example:
Message-Id: <5937638.672489631277142783765.JavaMail.chatboxp@clarion.apple.com>
Message-Id: <ec228d$qe8sj@badger-txnvip.apple.com>
The early-iPhone message's header lacks both the top level domain and the apple domain:
Message-Id: <20100622055524.150C01534F2C@biweb>
Not to say this is proof, but it just seems very suspicious. The rest of the header looks pretty well spoofed; alas, it's just way too late to look into this in any detail right now, and besides, I'm sure we'll hear from the mothership soon enough about whether this is true or false.
I got the email myself, so it would be nice to get the phone early, but now I'm not so sure about the authenticity of that message.
