AT&T probably received a huge shipment from Apple to their warehouse and is then sending it out themselves, so they're sending it out via UPS.

Apple always uses Fedex and it would have come straight from China (and not via next day air).

AT&T is using FedEx as well as UPS. My i4 was shipped via FedEx.

I got this email too, and my FedEx tracking agrees with the June 23rd delivery date. I'm excited if this is true. But, is anyone concerned about the mistakes in the email?

Title: "Your iPhone will deliver on June 23rd" instead of, "your iPhone will be delivered" or "will arrive" or something more correct.

Also, in the body of the email: "you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd". Why "the" June 23rd? Also, no link to the FedEx website.

I'm probably reading way too much into this, I just couldn't help noticing these strange mistakes. Perhaps the Apple Store Team is just a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

As stated prior, it's an automated email that quite possibly grabbed the date that all iphones were supposed to arrive at Fedex outlets.

Tons of people got the same email last year with the 3GS only to have it held at the fedex location until the release date. I know this because I have a friend who works for fedex and he told me they got tons of angry calls and people stopping in looking for their package. But they have specific instructions from Apple to not deliver before the store release date..... He said this is common and they do it all the time for big companies. I do however remember him telling me that a few slipped through the cracks and were sent out for delivery.

I don't know where you came up with that. There was no email like this last year. There was some people's tracking info that showed an early date but then they all got held. There was no email from Apple to specifically tell people that they were getting it early.

Do you actually think that Apple is stupid enough to send out an email with an inaccurate date to tens of thousands of people? And even if what you are saying is true, why would they send out this email at this point anyway when all of the shipping confirmation and order status already had the 24th on it?

Sorry if this has been answered. I only scrolled back five pages.

Is there a correlation between order time and early shipment? I ordered one phone at 1:30 PM PT and it is scheduled for delivery on the 23rd. My second phone was ordered at 2:30 PM PT and is scheduled for the 24th.

No, because I pre-ordered my phone at 6:30pm (EST) on June 15th, and I got the email confirming early delivery.

They were stupid enough to not proofread the email. Why would you doubt their stupidity in another regard?

23 June 2010 Delivery

Received the same email early this morning (1:14am). As per FedEx tracking my phone "Arrived at FedEx location, Newark, NJ at 2:38am" 22 June 2010. Shipment scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, 23 June 2010.

Doesn't seem to be. My order didn't go through until about 6pm CT (4 PT) and I received the email. Delivery to Twin Cities, MN.

It's very obvious why this is so

Just a few says ago, ATT's servers went down due to the load. Probably not much has changed in a week.

It is a disaster waiting to happen and they just want to avoid it.

Could it be that these mails are entirely automated? I have a package in Oakland for overnight delivery and these e-mails would be sent under normal conditions. However, the iPhone may have a big sticker on it that says "Do not deliver until Thursday" for the drivers (a la Harry Potter book) and they forgot/couldn't turn off the automatic notifications. For a large company like FedEx, it is easy for me to believe that they cannot easily adjust their automation for a one-off shipment.

But with all that said, I hope they stick to the 23rd. :)

The full headers on my email from Apple shows that the message originated from IP 17.254.13.22. When you do a trace of that IP, it does indeed track back to the following:

So Apple email says 23 and says it will deliver on the 23 even if Fedex has a later date. my fedex says 430pm on the 24 and it is still in transit in Alaska. I need to work remote that day as the package will come to my home. Do you think it will actualy come on the 23rd?

My email (received @ 1:14am this morning) states ALMOST the same narrative as yours did, "4:30pm on the 24th", with the exception being my phone has already been received in Newark, NJ. My phone was in Anchorage, Alaska yesterday and now its in NJ. Normally once it reaches Newark delivery takes place the next day.

I live in Jersey. 1+1= iPhone delivery TOMORROW, 23 June 2010.

this isn't exactly true. you need to read the "Received by" from bottom up... assuming you have the same header, you should find this just above the "To:" information:

Received: by biweb (Postfix, from userid 70)
id 150C01534F2C; Tue, 22 Jun 2010 00:55:24 -0500 (CDT)

if you could tell me which corporate mail server in CDT kicked this off, then you will have solved a mystery for me.

Well, I live in Texas. Got the early delivery email.

My phone's still in Memphis--so unless they drive ALL DAY to get to Dallas, and then drive about four more hours to get to my local hub, it won't be here tomorrow.

Well, it shows that at 10:29pm last night it originated from the following:

Received: from biweb (bi22.corp.apple.com [17.104.172.202])
by relay14.apple.com (Apple SCV relay) with SMTP id 20.1B.22357.E2A402C4; Mon, 21 Jun 2010 22:29:18 -0700 (PDT)

Received: by biweb (Postfix, from userid 70)
id D7119152964E; Tue, 22 Jun 2010 00:29:29 -0500 (CDT)

Edit: oops, just noticed that was 10:29 PDT (12:29CDT), which is at the same time as the biweb, user 70 shown right below it - just 11 seconds later.

Planes exist in Memphis. My phone still shows up in Alaska and I'm in NC, but I'm pretty sure we've mastered the ability to fly cross country in under a day's time.

Someone told me that they have these new fangled flying contraptions that take less time to get to a destination than a truck.

No, I kid. I really do hope you're right.

I just checked and I have the email too! I can't believe we'll have it tomorrow!

This is an unexpected but pleasant surprise. :D :apple:
