From what FedEx has told me in the past drivers can accept or decline waivers at their discretion. If they cannot find a safe place to leave the package they are not required to leave it even if there is a wavier.

That is 100% true, as I've had this discussion with fedex before. FedEx has always seemed to be the one delivery company thats actually concerned about the safety of my packages. For real....fwiw

anyone's iphone still in transit at ANCHORAGE who have exp delivery date of 23 and got the email? im in boston.

Outside boston here, waltham to be exact.

Still "stuck in Alaska", although i don't believe that since it hasn't updated since yesterday.

I am expecting it tomorrow.

Maybe this is a hoax

I agree with some here that the email is strange. Out of the blue, and lacks official trimmings.

It's probably real, but then again it would be a great hoax :D

Hey... did anyone notice that it says "morning of the June 23rd"?
It is not like Apple to make grammar mistakes.

well if this email is true, my delivery date is still June 24 4:30pm. Hope it changes to June 23 10:30am.

Its been ten hours since I've received this email. If the email was a mistake I think Apple would have let us know by now.

Still could be but I made sure and called FedEx and talked to a rep that confirmed tomorrow delivery to my employers address and no holds will be placed.

He also even suggested for me to call tomorrow if it hasnt been received by 3.
Im trying not to get my hopes up and will still be happy by the 24th but tomorrow wouldnt be bad. :D

I am convinced this is a hoax. Breaking a release date and grammar mistakes are both things that Apple doesn't do.

Something even more serious Apple doesn't do is let people masquerade around using a company email to lie to thousands of people about early delivery dates...

Even if they spoofed the email address, the headers are legitimate and they would have released a statement already.

Exactly!

If this were false information, Apple would have said something.

It's nearly 10:30 am PDT... I think Apple would have been all over this by now if it were wrong.

Yeah but it's software based instead of having a physical switch like the iPad.

and if I remember correctly, at least according to developer builds, it will only lock in portrait, not landscape.

Well... hold on, I'll check. Yup, only Portrait. To get there, in iOS4, double click the home button to bring up bg apps, then swipe left to right.

It's a rotation lock. (just in case the other eight replies weren't enough) :)

Re: the Apple email, I don't believe it's wrong or a hoax. I ordered two phones, and I got two of these emails. They came from an Apple address. How the heck would a hacker know that I ordered two (or any for that matter)??

Yes there is the grammar mistake, but whatever. I'm the first to be skeptical, and I ordered a 3GS last year which for a while showed an early arrival date, but then went on hold until launch. But that was different. I never got an email from Apple like this. It's a very specific email, seemingly aimed at making sure you are around to accept your order a day earlier than they originally told you.

So I actually believe this one. We shall see tomorrow, eh?

Maybe they did and we can't see the corrections because we're not wearing hats made out of the proper density of foil.

I figure my biggest chance of not getting a phone tomorrow isn't because OMGHAx0rZ!!!11! but because my FedEx delivery is usually unreliable and they tend to lie about delivery attempts. Hopefully they won't do that to me this time.
