I'm betting this email was intended to allay the fears of folks who were given ship dates stating they'd arrive after the 24th. And since its automated, its using the 23rd, which is the date they intended all the iphones would be delivered to the hubs. Expect clarification and possibly an apology soon.

Okay. I doubt this is the case. And people claiming "typo" are wrong too.

"This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package..."

Come on now.

For this email to be wrong in 3 places, and still sent out?

Highly. Highly. Doubtful.

They're coming. And I'd place money on the 23rd.

Judging by the pre-order numbers and complete meltdown of the servers, Apple would be wise to implement this even if not true. With that said, I believe this is absolutely an effort on the part of Apple, and AT&T to not have a total disaster on their hands come thursday. I still think it's going to be out of control, but this will at least lighten the load somewhat--right?..

June 23rd

I just got this email after I just checked fedex and my phone is in Oakland now ! I hope I get it on the 23rd

I bet that Apple meant to say that your packages were coming on the 24th because the tracking numbers mostly said that they were coming on the 23rd, but got the dates backwards. It is the only thing that makes any sense.

anyone think this may have been planned and maybe apple just wanted some positive press???

Whether or not it's actually coming June 23, I'm gonna wake up early just in case.

Apple may be delivering these early to ease the activation process a bit. Better to start early than have a mad rush on the 24th. Anything helps.

noooo... smh..

they want to split up the activations

Did anyone get an email saying it will ship the 23rd when the original email for confirmation said the 24th? Me and my wife got the pre-orders in literally in minutes of each other and the tracking location is exactly the same, but hers says the 24th while mine says the 23rd. Very weird. Anyone in the same situation? Anyways good news! At least got one email....

Yes my original shipment date on shipment confirmation email said June 24th from Apple, and June 24th from Fedex.

That actually backs up my theory. It being wrong in all three spots is an indicator that it's just automated.

Or the fact that considering AT&T's qualification servers crashed on the 15th, and their activation servers crashed when the 3GS was released, I think the only thing that makes any sense is the fact that they may want to prevent this by spreading out the amount of people trying to activate all at once.

It's so sad that we are so doubtful of apple doing something actually logical...staggering the release.

What? Apple doing something pretty logical? NO WAY!

Haha. I'm pretty excited though, it is pretty un-apple like but you know what, I like this new apple!

This would be a smart move by apple. I remember the 3G launch and servers went down for 2 hours. It was terrible.

This would allow a nice split. Espicially after the fiasco on the 15th.

I think this email is accurate. They mentioned the 23rd 3 times. And I don't know of anyone with a date later than the 24th.

For those who say that fedex was told to delay it, says who? Did Steve call you to confirm this?

No, nearly everyone's tracking #'s said that they were coming on the 23rd. Apple wanted to clear this up but failed...miserably.

Both my Apple confirmation and FedEx's tracking said the 24th and I got this e-mail.

Did you?

And crashed on the 3G release....and the first iPhone release.
