1. The first generation devices will have innumerable problems as per history.
2. I don’t want to test a beta product by paying $1500 in my country for it. Price too high.
3. No TouchID
4. No ProMotion display. (Maybe it is impossible on OLED display)
5. It looks so fragile.

The notch at the top is ok but if it is cutting off videos then it might be a problem.

A bit meh really? Nice phone but it seemed to lack the wow factor. I didn't like the bezel's either, it's not an edge to edge display. Problem for me is that we've seen all the tech Apple are crowing about already established elsewhere. Wireless charging, is it even fast charging? OLED, facial recognition etc.

I'll probably still end up getting one or the Note 8.

Well, Apple removed the headphone jack last year and now they've removed Touch ID. Both are two things that I use frequently. And yes, I know I can get the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus, but then I would feel like I don't have the best product that Apple has. I think at this point I will be going from a 7 to either a 6s or a SE. Not sure yet.

1. Why do you need the BEST product Apple has? Do you also buy the BEST car that each manufacturer makes with all of the optional equipment? That gets expensive if so!

2. Why are you going from a 7 to a 6s or SE? If you already have a 7, why not just keep it? Is it broken? Also, stepping down to a 6s or SE directly contradicts your statement about wanting the BEST phone Apple has.

Apple no longer grasps the concept of exciting. That opening was remarkably dull- I thought I was going to fall asleep. The Apple Store stuff was so dull I had to refer back to notes to remember what the woman was yapping about. The rest of it not too much better.

I was really expecting to be blown away by the X but I really wasn't. Aesthetically, I don't think it looks great - kinda chunky and despite all the 'edge to edge screen stuff', there is still a noticeable amount of 'phone' around the screen to me (I know it's just the design) and quite frankly the latest Samsungs look more cutting-edge. I think I may have been spoilt by some of the mocked up designs which looked excellent.

I'm not convinced by FaceID. I mean, I can see the benefits, but there are plenty of use-cases where I want to fiddle with my phone without holding it in front of me. For example, if I'm at home watching a movie with my gf, and want to stealthily check my emails, I will reach down my side to my phone, touch-id it unlocked and then navigate to email, glancing down before hurriedly locking the phone and looking innocent as soon as she turns her head to look at me! I know it's a silly example, but it's one where the process would be harder with the X (I'd have to use the passcode unlock)

I hope the wireless charging is in addition to a regular lightning port, as I frequently like to use the phone whilst charging. I'm also not clear if a phone case would hamper any 'wireless' charging.

The animoji thing looks fun to play with (for 2 mins). The Augmented Reality game looked kinda clunky to me, although there are some games where an application would appeal (if they made a pool game, overlaying your kitchen table for example). All nice trimmings, but nothing to blow me away.

And that stupid notch in the screen would just be plain annoying I think.

I'm also left wondering why they couldn't have incorporated the facial-recognition/animoji/whatever stuff into the bezel of the iPhone 8, which would have been perfect as they could have retained Touch ID.

As for the iPhone 8 design....Apple has not changed it since the 6, and that's good in a way as my 6 still 'looks' current if nothing else, but rather like the Apple Watch - if I'm dropping a huge amount on new tech, I like it to at least look different to what I have, otherwise the motivation is lacking. The X meets that objective, but is hideously expensive and quite frankly I'm not sure it's drawbacks outweigh it's benefits.

At least with the delay with shipping, there will be plenty of opportunity to read reviews and first-hand accounts before deciding.

this is such a downer. this was the only thing i was waiting for. guess i'll be skipping this year

and its definitely possible with oled, even more so than lcd

I'm watching the CNET live stream and they mention the Apple rep who is obviously trained on how to use the phone was having some problems with accessing all the apps with the gesture and the unlock had some hesitation. Obviously there is time before this comes out to iron out bugs but it's not as mature as most would like.

It looks nice, but there really isn't anything to make me want one. I purchased each model up until the 6S (Plus), and haven't really felt a need to upgrade to the 7, and now I feel I'll probably pass on the 8 and X. There's just little there that can't be done on a 6S, certainly not enough to make me want to spend several hundred dollars. If I was in the market for a new phone, I'd probably pony up the extra money for the X, but I'm sort of relieved I'll be able to hold onto my 6S for another year and keep my monthly bill lower.

I think we're reaching a point where the software is what really drives the phones. Face ID may be more secure and advanced from a technological standpoint, but there's something about Touch ID that seems more practical and appealing to me. I think upgrade-worthy hardware features are getting harder to come by each cycle.

Valid questions. To answer: No, I don't need the best product that Apple has to provide; but I would like to use the latest and "greatest" technology because cell phones are my hobby so I usually like to swap out my phones once or twice per year. As far as the car question, no I don't. I'm perfectly content with my car that I bought used and paid cash for.

My iPhone 7 is bent, so I had planned to change phones anyway, I was just waiting for this event to see what I would move to.

EXPENSIVE....
and not releasing until NOVEMBER!!
Why introduce a highly demanded phone just for it not to come out in 2 months? When Samsung released theirs just 2-3 weeks after announcing it.
Also lack of features to justify the high price... no touch ID
complicated user interface and less battery than the 8

As a user who has tried the larger form factor phones, this is a deal breaker for me. I prefer the size of the iPhone 6/7/8 models. The Plus size phones are just to big for my taste. That being said I do have a 12.9 iPad Pro, which I absolutely love.

What's a deal breaker? The iPhone X has almost identical dimensions to the 6/7/8. It's 0.2" taller and wider. Who cares about 0.2"??

It's nowhere near as large as the Plus model.

While I won't tell anyone else what they should do, I do agree with the primary premise that this is a beta product. The notch at the top looks like an afterthought, FaceID seems like a workaround because they couldn't get TouchID to work, the UI is sloppy, and it's crazy expensive considering what it is. I think this is the future of the iPhone and it has amazing potential, but I'll wait a year or 2 until it's fully fleshed out, and stick with the 8 for now. Apple basically admitted today that they finally released the Apple Watch as originally conceived, basically saying we were all using beta products prior to this. I anticipate the same with the iPhone X will be true in the future.

How is this a disappointment? Tons of new features, sleek new design, complete overhaul of screen/home button and inclusion of FaceID...

I might just buy it because I don’t like being told what to do:D

Seriously, I agree with you that it’s a rushed product, even the UI.

I’m probably waiting, decided that a while back though.

I wasn't personally blown away (possibly because everything had already been rumoured), but this sort of hyperbole before you've tried a device only runs the risk of blowing up in your face down the line.

We have so many self-important people on here. Ah, the internet - the CB radio of the 21st century. :D

Just their pricing for it is crazy. 1149 for a usuable storage size and add tax and then 200(?!?) for applecare+?!

Honestly, I'm a tad underwhelmed by the iPhone X. Personally I don't really like FaceID, and feel like I won't get on with it (just as I hate 3D Touch). I was aware of the rumours regarding the price but £999 is hefty, thought it could be £969 or less here in the UK. Think I'll get the 8.
