EXPENSIVE....
and not releasing until NOVEMBER!!
Why introduce a highly demanded phone just for it not to come out in 2 months? When Samsung released theirs just 2-3 weeks after announcing it.
Also lack of features to justify the high price... no touch ID
complicated user interface and less battery than the 8

NOVEMBER!!??

Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!!!

…I don't need the best product that Apple has to provide; but I would like to use the latest and "greatest" technology because cell phones are my hobby so I usually like to swap out my phones once or twice per year…
I share a similar if not exact opinion. I do not buy our devices (my wife and I) based on need. I buy based on want. We only upgrade every 2 to 3.5 years so getting what we want is more important to us than anything else. We have to live with our devices for that long because we use our tax refund to get them and that's doable only within the time frame I mentioned.

And generally, getting what we want blows out by 100% or more of what we need so it works out. :)

I don't get this mentality of only buying what you need. It's a great way to never get what you want in life.

Hope you guys who aren't impressed about the X won't get one. With any new phone coming out, there's no more WOW factor anymore either with Apple or any other brand. Is this a step up from the iPhone 7/8? Yes because of design and features. You can't be WOW anymore because it's harder and harder to improve that much on a phone. Same goes to the Galaxy or any other phone for that matter. There'll always be slight features and upgrades. If they ever WOW anyone, then there'll be no need to design another phone for next year.

Coming from an iPhone 5, I'm definitely getting the 256GB iPhone X.

I actually found the emoji section hilarious, but it's a shame that they have to be animated, as I'd love to create emojis within iMessages on the fly with a single look without doing the talking. It reminds me of the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 1, where they announced you could send your heart rate to your partner or little drawings. I mean, it's cool, but it's not going to sell me on your Watch. I have a similar feeling with the Animoji software: I'm sure it's fun, but I'm not going to send them very often, as I'll look like an idiot speaking into my phone and pulling all sorts of facial expressions.

The real reason I'll be adopting the X over the 8+ is because I love the OLED screen - the Super Retina display will be incredible. With support for HDR and the most densely populated screen of pixels in an iPhone to date, paired with stabilised sensors in both wide and tele modes, as well as having portrait mode working on the front facing camera: it looks to be quite a kick ass phone.

I know that it's easy to bash them, or expect to see something that's vastly different to the rumours. At this day and age of speculative information, and the need to gain information regarding all of Apple's products before each announcement, it shouldn't be all that surprising that they've failed in this area. It really doesn't bother me that we haven't really heard anything new since the rumour mills have kept us interested for months.

We can bash Face ID for its impracticalities, and I do agree with the benefits of Touch ID over it, but the fact that it's safer, works in so many different ways and is quite frankly, ridiculously hard to cheat vs TouchID, I think Apple have done a great job here. The new gestures are nice as well, and the screen during the Safari browsing experience of the Keynote showed really excellent design... I loved it... I wish the same could be said for the video segment - I do think those front facing sensors are annoying.

I can imagine going back to the bezelled iPhones after using an iPhone X will be as annoying as it is for me when I hold an iPhone 6 or later: they're just so much better than my iPhone 5.

I remember one year ago when everyone was going on about how the 7 was a huge disappointment and that they couldn't wait for the anniversary model super cycle which was going to blow all smartphones away.

Now there's even more disappointment and backlash than last year. Lol!

I'm not expecting wow.

The time for that is long over. However, I am expecting…nice. Nice design, nice to look at, hold etc.

I don't look at my Honda and get wowed by it's design. And I am not expecting wow the next time Honda redesigns the Accord. But I am expecting something attractive and nice.

I'm not getting that from the new phones.

Yes!!! Boring!!!

so a new screen that simply blows away the old screen with far higher resolution and has no bezel; a new facial recognition system that looks seamless; improved battery; improved front and back camera's; improved CPU, more memory.

Sounds pretty awesome to me

Camera bump…not so much awesome.

I for one welcome the exit of touch ID, half the time it doesn't work for me anyway either I have slightly sweaty/wet or maybe oily fingers.

will be nice to just have it work (supposedly) every time.

I've noticed a trend that when someone says an inanimate object is "boring" they usually share that trait.
You are probably right in my case. And I am not being sarcastic. I pretty much have nothing going on in my life other than my family and work so you'd probably find me pretty boring. Or at least my life anyway. :)

I will take a bump any day for better quality photos
LOL! To each his own.

99% of the pictures I take are of things on the shelves at Walmart so my wife can decide what it is she wants. The other 1% is screen caps for posts here on MR.

Don't really need a high quality cam for that in my case. :)

Apple is lame. They are still behind Samsung and we keep buying, buying and buying. The iPhone X should have been the iPhone 8. Even then it is ugly. I will be going to Verizon on my way home tonight to see about the Galaxy 8 Note. At least Samsung is innovative.

Yeah, hopefully Samsung fixed their exploding phone problem.

Yeah, great advances and all that but to be honest at €1.149 here for the cheapest 64GB it's just too expensive.

Might go for an '8 instead. That's a major jump for me anyway as I have a '6 currrntly.

99% of the pictures I take are of my kids. So I appreciate the better camera. Don't care about the bump at all.

We get it from your other 100 messages about the camera bump. You don't like it.

Exactly. If I bought my phones on need then I could use a cheap android phone as I really only need: phone/voicemail, text, and e-mail. You upgrade much less than I do, and to be honest, I'm slowly moving that direction as phones are getting less interesting. But I suppose there's only so much they can do at this point. I just really wanted an iPhone with smaller bezels and a nicer display, while still retaining the same functionality.

Boring?

This unveiling tops even the original iPhone announcement. iPhone X is just incredible in every way - beauty, features, experience, security and fun, fun, fun.

It is just a pretty run of the mill phone with tech that has been around for years.

OLED screen, Qi charging etc pretty standard stuff outside of Apple.

Not blown away by Face ID like I was when Touch ID was released. Battery not as long as 7 Plus? I'll wait until next years iPhones to compare. My 7 plus is safe

A bit meh really? Nice phone but it seemed to lack the wow factor. I didn't like the bezel's either, it's not an edge to edge display. Problem for me is that we've seen all the tech Apple are crowing about already established elsewhere. Wireless charging, is it even fast charging? OLED, facial recognition etc.

I'll probably still end up getting one or the Note 8.
Yeah, you summed it up perfectly. Even the iPhone 7 felt like it had more of a wow factor over the 6S.

They really should have waited and got it right with the edge to edge display, although to be fair that might take longer than they would have wanted. Still, I think their implementation isn’t great, the fact it covers video is mind boggling (although there’ll more than likely be a way to zoom out).

Navigation could have been done better, from unlocking to going home. Personally I would want the bar to have home button like functionality, they didn’t seem to take advantage of the Taptic Engine as much as they could have.

It seems very unpolished, but hopefully future models refine these things and get them right.
