I will say this.. The Pixel 2 XL looks better than the iPhone X in silver and space gray. Don't feel too offended, Apple fans. A difference of trimming the upper glass trim, no camera hump, and no notch. Note8, V30, and Pixel 2 XL all look better than iPhone 6/6s/7/8/X in any color.

Apple hasn't made a beautiful iPhone since 2013. I will still wait on the iPhone X because I want November 3 to be an iPhone Xperience Day with Thor: Ragnarok as a bonus. Camp out and have fun out there.

Notice trimming the glass strip and no antenna lines actually makes it look cleaner and nicer.

Sorry to say...in terms of designs...Samsung did it Right......its no denying it. The iphone X looks like a hideous fisher price toy with a case already built in LOL. And yes I only compare the iPhone X to the S8 since they both have 5.8 inch displays while the Note 8 is in a league of its own.

Couldn't agree more.

I understand it can be subjective. Some will prefer the X design. But generally from what I've read majority of people agree on this without the 'fanboyism' in mind. I love Apple and use MBP's/ macOS, it's just the phone design that they now lack behind other brands.

Why are people always using Samsung phones to compare with iPhones? Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 looks pretty good.

For one, Samsung is Apple's primary competitor in the android market. Also, Xiaomi phones are not nearly as available across the world as Samsung phones are. Not to mention, Samsung has been in the industry much longer than Xiaomi has, where Xiaomi is primarily available in China. Big differences between Xiaomi and Samsung.

I feel like no one was listening when Johnny Ives said that face ID had been in the works for 5 years. It took them 5 years to develope it! This was a deliberate design choice. It wasn’t a last resort.

If Apple has worked on Face ID for 5 Years it must be really good functioning wise. I was so disappointed with notch but now get used to it. But still i am not purchasing it for myself this year. Overall X must be cool looking but i guess IOS/interface needs to look little different now.

iPhone X design already outdated. Check out all the new 'bezeless' phones coming out that have even less bezel and bigger screen/ body ratio. Not to speak of the ugly notch.

Just really makes me sad. I was hoping to be blown away by Jony Ive and his team to switch back to iPhone again yet my Galaxy S8 that will be half year older when iPhone X comes out will still look better and more state of the art than Apple's phone. And I'm sure Samsung's S9 (or X or whatever they call it) will be even sexier.

'X' looks clunkier compared to S8's slimmer design and uniform look. And X's chrome frame reminds me of diners for some reason and will look even uglier when scratches appear.

Apple going for that notch design means it will be at least 5 years like that hardware & software wise. One of the dumbest decisions Apple made lately along to use lightning port on iPhones but USB-C on everything else and creating a big dongle mess.

I wonder what happened to Jony Ive. Apple was leading design innovation in every of its product categories and to me now it's just the MacBook Pro's and iPads that are great. But iPhones lag behind while they should out-innovate everybody design wise too.

So are you buying X or not?

I'd prefer that over the notch. At least it can flipped over when taking selfies.

And if you want dual cameras, there's the Vernee Mix 2 with a 6 inch QHD AMOLED display. It may not be an Android flagship but we are talking about displays and its only $193. So Apple is raping people with there "bezel-less" display when cheaper smartphone manufacturers can offer it at a much cheaper price range.

Can you REALLY not see the bezel?

Thanks for the comparison. The X easily looks better to me. Much less bezel and no top and bottom chin. The X looks more futuristic and doesn't have those weird rounded corners AND a chin on top of it. Looks awkward.

You have bezels on all four sides...keep fantasizing that the none symmetrical ugly notch look is actually nice. Smh 🙄

You’re not losing any screen with the notch, you’re actually gaining screen.

The ears that would otherwise just be a useless bezel are now a space for the status info. Moving that info away from the screen you would be stuck with had there been a full across bezel. Moving that info off the screen an app uses to show content.

They didn’t blow it. It was carefully thought out.

After thinking about this how is this any different than the lg v20 with its extra space for a screen on top for stuff like notifications? It looks off, and was only useful for that just like the iPhone X..

Yea there's no use for the sloped screen edges of the S8, it serves no purpose and causes reflections for no reason. A small thin bezel is a much better solution. Nothing to fantasize, it's a great design. Millions of people will buy it. You can spend your life on an Apple forum trying to convince people otherwise or just get a rise out of people, but it makes no difference to those that like the design.

Anything by Apple is perfect to you. Just admit the s8 is the better design. Others have already......

You really need to find a hobby or something man. It's kind of pathetic. I like the X, you like the S8, there is no issue with that. Just move on, get a girlfriend or a job or something.

Hey I got both.....a beautiful girlfriend and very nice job. If the iphone had a blob in the middle of the screen, you are first to buy. Surely are.....😉

if you have the Note and enjoy it, and so thoroughly invested in Samsung,
why do you need to be here talking to people who obviously into Apple?
do you have second thoughts?
does your beautiful gf likes Apple?
why waste your time with this?

Are you seriously ignoring the bezel all the way around on the X? There's practically none on the sides of the S8.

No, not at all. I see the small bezel. It serves a function as it allows you to hold the phone and not necessarily the screen. I think stretching the phone to each of the four corners is going to be really dramatic while using. I prefer this approach than having large chins at the top and bottom. The chins are the part of the bezel I don't like.

Seems like the only design parameter that matters to the OP is the 'bezeless-ness', which to me to imbecilic. That wouldn't be an ergonomic design. If a phone had zero bezels, it wouldn't be easy to hold without fingers triggering inputs on the sides. The top of the phone won't have earpiece speaker and cameras, that then wouldn't functionally be the device that the smartphone is currently. If I were the OP, I would ask if that is the phone you would want, but just so called beautiful screen in the front without any other useful functionality that is omitted because of that.

Now imagine in 4 years, you get bored of full screen design, what would you ask for, a full wrap around screen with nowhere to hold the phone. We need to step out cloud cuckoo land and get back on ground in the real world.

Samsung S8 is not a new design, the only difference is the bigger screen, the S8 uses the same design as the S6. How is that new?

And the top and bottom bezel on the S8, using the same standard, that should be considered atrocious.

Its absolutely a new design on the S8....thanks and for proof:

The flagship phone's most recognisable stand-out feature is its stunning design language. It is so unique that if it is grouped with 10 other smartphones of various brands, one can easily identify the Galaxy S8 even from a distance.

The Infinity Display feature makes the Galaxy S8's screen cascade to the middle of the chassis on both sides, whereas the top and bottom part of the display is stretched to the limit leaving very little space for camera, Iris scanner and other sensors on the top.

With so much space dedicated for the screen, it is a treat watching videos and play graphics-rich game on the Galaxy S8, given the fact it has so much pixels () cramped in to it.

[FYI: Screen resolution: WQHD+ (2960x1440p); Pixel density: more than 570 ppi (pixels per inch)]

It's unarguably the most beautiful design language we have seen for a smartphone.

Just keep being in denial of this true beauty. 🙄😀

funny.. the people you quote as being proof use the same lame tactics as yourself..

'unarguably'?
get real.

do you know the difference between fact and opinion?

Actually I'm done with this debate. The S8 alone won the argument without me needing to get my points across. So thanks for your words.....goodbye

Apart from the fact that they explicitly reduce/hide the bezels in their official renders. This is the real screen:
