There is no way they are going to meet demand but they would never admit. Apple wants to tow that line between jeez we had no idea everyone was so excited and we dropped the ball on production.

It no longer matters to me. I decided to get an 8 Plus. I am sure I would have loved the X but I don't really care for the "notch"; I think the edge to edge is underwhelming in it's design/aesthetics; and I am ambivalent towards Face ID/3 D cameras.
Plus, I wanted an unlocked phone and I doubt it will be easy to find an unlocked device anytime in the near future.
FWIW, I am very pleased with the 8 Plus coming from an iPhone 6. The 8 should last me 3 to 4 years if I need it to assuming no physical damage.

We are exactly in the same situation. I have the 6 and wanted the X but those two reasons. That notch is incredibly annoying. I don’t know how Apple design team came up with that. I want to get the last iPhone to come with a Touch ID. Unlocking an iPhone should be about convenience not about Fort Knox security.

Now I have added a third thing to my list. The phone has 18:9 screen aspect ratio which means while playing most regular videos there is going to be a bezel on the sides. In fact the videos shot by the X would also be 16:9 so not sure why make phones with 18:9 aspect ratio when it’s not going to be utilized fully.

Man, the around the pre-ordering of the iPhone X, looks like a lot of people will be missing sleep that day. Usually how many units do they have for pre-ordering before the delivery deadlines start slipping to more than 3-4 weeks ?

Artificially created crisis To hype Iphone X

Well it’s not. The component makers stock price has suffered immensely due to the rumours of delays. Himax being one has droppped neigh on 20% and now will move slowly back up. Apple is not in the business of making its suppliers suffer unnecessarily. That is plain stupid.

Personally I'd wait a couple of months to make sure Apple (and suppliers) have ironed out obvious manufacturing issues.

This is a major redesign. We don't have to be guinea pigs.

If being a Guinea Pig means having the latest and coolest tech around... where do I sign?

This happens during every iphone release. Apple puts out fake news that supplies are low to drive up the demand.

There's probably millions of iphone stockpiles sitting in a warehouse some where.

Aw come on! I bought the 8+ so that you could test the X out for me!

Bring on the iPhone X :)
Definitely not aiming to be a downer here, but with all the hype and expectations for this highly anticipated device, sometimes I can't help but wonder how long it will take before Apple will hit a major QC snag like Samsung did with the Note7. And not necessarily a discontinuation, but a super-expensive and confidence-eroding recall campaign?

No matter how meticulously designed your products are, as long as one has to rely on a multitude of third parties for various components, not to mention fabricating your final product, permanently and completely avoiding such a major QC, not to mention PR, headache seems an almost impossible feat to accomplish.

Kudos to Apple for (aside from relatively minor issues) so far having dodged 'the big bullet'.

Yes they make people who have paid deliberately wait for no reason while the stock just 'sits in a warehouse' somewhere :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Um, in the past yes. There are usually warehouses stocked with phones on launch day. Not this time. Most likely the size of Automotive in Wall-Mart. :apple:

People want what they can't have. Saying that stocks are low make people want to buy the iPhone x more.

You'll still have 10m people who want one at launch regardless of any hint of supply chain issues. Estimates slip because they literally can't make them fast enough. It has nothing to do with drumming up demand.

Why do you assume that if Apple got into the chip fabrication business they would be better at it than TSMC? or could produce camera modules better than Sony? The companies that produce iPhone components have long standing and experience in their respective areas; Apple has none.

I have a two month wait rule for every new iPhone.

Missing sleep? Nah. That's what alarm clocks are for. Wake up at 2:55. Back to bed at 3:05 or sooner with or without an order.

Apple never announced pre-ordering inventory or launch day inventory. -- only sales after the fact. It hasn't announced launch sales though since the iPhone 7. At peak Apple has made over 550K iPhones per day. iPhone X production has been said to be 10K per day or 400K per day. Pick which ever number you like or choose your own. Anyone's number is as good as anyone else's right now.

If
it's 400K per day and reports are correct that Apple just ramped up that is approx 6.8m phones for launch day for the entire world assuming units produced on Nov 7 are drop shipped xpress from China as is Apple's practice. That inventory would probably last a few minutes if the servers don't conk out. If we assume initial demand is around 10m units, on par with the iPhone 6 launch week sales, that would leave a 3.2m unit deficit which would take a week to make up.

Of course that is all fantasy since we really have zero good info on how many X units can be produced in a day at this point.

Pro Motion on the iPad uses a LCD screen; what makes you think Pro Motion would work on an OLED screen or if such a screen needs/benefits from it?
"proMotion" is just a faancy name for 120hz or frames per second, where the "standard" is 60hz/fps. You have "ProMotion" even on CRT monitors that could output more than 60-75hz.

The advantages of 120hz over 60hz is independent of the technology being OLED, LCD or even FILM... 120fps is going to give you smoother movements on any tech of display.

A 120fps FILM movie will give you smoother movements than 60FPS in the world's best oled.

Battery life could be a concern since the GPU would have to render twice the frames in the same space of time, or samsung OLED panels might not be able to output more than 60fps yet.

Anyone who believes they are only making 1000 per day, or whatever the crazy numbers were, are grossly mistaken. Those are Samsung tactics to push people into buying a different phone, ahead of the X sale date. Like 2007, there will be plenty of phones.

I'm not sure there is a contradiction here. I think there could simply be two related, but very different things going on:

1. It's quite possible that it took a while for 3D sensing parts production to get into high speed. That would hinder production at first. So that's one set of news.

2. At the same time, there were/are separate production difficulties with the new requirement for individual alignment of components during assembly. So even with a parts supply, production has to ramp up as well.

Trouble is, reporters tend to indiscriminately clump any slowdown news together, so news about one thing going faster or slower appears to contradict previous news. But it really doesn't.

I did neither state, nor imply that I think Apple should get into the chip-fabrication or camera module manufacturing business, or for that matter, do everything in-house, but I was merely musing about statistical probabilities.

Good for you

Please everyone follow this example ....... That way i wont have to get up at 3am to pre-order and still get the phone on launch day (and if something is wrong with it, i just exchange it ... But i anyway never had an issue with my launch day phone, and i do this every year)

Lmao exactly. People act like the phone can’t be exchanged. I don’t understand some people’s logic on here :(

You think if there’s something wrong with your phone Apple won’t do anything about it? Or are you wayyyyy too busy to go into a store to get it exchanged?

Come on guys (y’all, from Engadget to MacRumors to Mashable and so on), please stop this meaningless rumor mill, nobody knows a damn thing on chain supply and despite of this everybody seemingly need to follow and forward these “reports” based on a profound lack of veritable informations, all contradictory second by second, nothing concrete, with a generous dose of "reportedly" here and there.

- YESTERDAY: “Apple is doooooooooooomed”

- TODAY: “everything’s fineeeeee”.

Massive improvements from a cataclysmic report THROUGH. A. SINGLE. DAY.

Is ANYBODY really thinking there’s somebody over here (a very broad “here”, not specifically MacRumors) holding his/her [redacted-but-you-know-the-word] on this matter?

This is ridiculous. Really.
Please, stop writing about the nothingness: it's exhausting.

Sometimes it's a sign of quality and professionality to NOT say that "reportedly" happened something. And news outlet like Engadget, The Verge or clickbait-and-ads-in-chief-Mashable are not a guarantee, too. Distinguish yourself, guys.

Thank you and sorry for the rant.

"Rumor", MacRumors...do you get that it is in the name?
