Reading the sentence "...more efficient at making OLED displays that live up to Apple's strict quality standards." makes my iPhone X turn Blue...

Seriously, after so many years throwing crap at OLED screens and all the BS in the presentation about "an OLED good enough for iPhone" and their efforts to "minimize" the issues with OLED panels, and they give us... a panel with exactly the same issues as any other OLED (and better calibration, that is true). The good X panels are certainly on par with the best from Samsung, but it is so extremely difficult to get a good one... I guess 1000$ is not enough to demand that the main element of the phone is a little bit consistent.

I just hope Apple slides the prices down. I want an X Plus at X prices in 2018. Otherwise, spending $1,600+ on a X Plus smartphone is silly and not worth it in my eyes.

Ain't going to happen. Price will not go down, but up. Book it, Danno.

Agree. For my iPhone X, I'd much rather have the regular IPS panel that's on my 6+.

Apple will discount the current the iPhone X likely around $100 with the announcement of the new iPhone X and X Plus in 2018. I predict the current iPhone X Plus will start at $1,200.00. But I think we will see similar pricing as we did this year with next years model.

I'd still prefer the current plus screen in a smaller body than a larger screen that really isn't with the weird aspect ratio and notch in the same sized body.

The iPhone X screen is already too tall to use comfortably. I can't imagine a plus sized one.

I really like my iPhone X, but, I just have no idea why Apple had to follow Samsung and adopt the new aspect ratio of 19.5:9 instead of the regular 16:9 this makes for a way too long phone, no need of that in my opinion, if any thing, just make it a bit longer to include the notch, but overall keep it 16:9 beneath the notch.

I don’t need a bigger phone I need a smaller, more comfortable one! Even the SE is too big and uncomfortable but it’s the smallest iOS device out there.

Where did you see me say Samsung overall? Pretty sure I said somebody. Also, not sure how you came to the conclusion that if Display is making money selling to Apple, Mobile has to be losing money. There's no logic that supports that assumption. Mobile making or losing money has nothing to do with Display's business. Both divisions can make money.

I never claimed you said Samsung overall. I simply commented that not everyone in Samsung would be happy (specifically Samsung Mobile).

The iPhone and Samsung flagship devices are competitors fighting over the same customers. Apple releasing a new iPhone selling in record quantities isn't going to be good for Samsung Mobile, as it will have an impact on their flagship sales. One of the signature features of the iPhone X is the screen. So Samsung Semi, by providing Apple with these screens, is going to be partially responsible for lost sales over at Samsung Mobile.

Why are so many people upset that Apple utilized the space to the left/right of the sensors rather than leaving it as a bezel?

Lets see how you'd feel about LG placing the TV Loudspeakers vertical-center left right inside the display.
Or better yet - both on v-center left side. And leave a small gap nullifying half the actor's head during a scene.

Bezel-free is, well, bezel free. I think that most people when thinking about bezel free, they mean distraction free or 'all display;... Well, perhaps the iPhone X's glass isn't held by a bezel and glued on but there is a very clunky and ugly looking contraption hanging from the top-center turning the entire viewing-experience in landscape mode in to a total nightmare.

If you dont use landscape mode that much, perhaps it won't matter to you. But if you, it REALLY matters. A LOT.

When you watch a movie or clip on the iPhone a pretty large percentage left and right of the screen are being used to show you black pixels... I dont see how you can sit here and wonder about why people get upset when you pay 1200USD for a phone which shows you black pixels instead of colorful ones when watching a clip... Does it not upset you at all ? That you pay for a device which can't in ultimo 2017 display a standard movie or image in 16:9 format on its display ?
Thats like buying a 4:3 TV in 2017 and still love the huge black bars on the top and bottom....

You know, there was a reason to why the entire industry began producing TVs in 16:9 format :)
They could have gone with 21:9. But they didn't and that for a very good reason. Aesthetics !

There's no 100% proof that Apple installed a backdoor into iOS so that the US government can get secret access. So why would anyone say that?

I'm not claiming that Apple installed a backdoor. I'm just commenting that there's no proof that they did.

That's essentially what you did.

You make assumptions here that are unsupported by logic. There's no 1:1 relationship with sales of iPhones and Sammy's S8 (just using that model as a placeholder for Samsung flagships). An iPhone purchase doesn't equate to a lost sale for Samsung. Nothing supports that thought process. Apple could break every iPhone record imaginable and sell 100 million iPhones. During that exact same timeframe Samsung could break their all time S8 sales record and sell 40 million (example number) S8's. That's not lost sales by any stretch. Samsungs flagship sales are affected more by Android competitors than any competition with iPhones. Am I getting S8+ or a Pixel XL or One+5, LG V30, etc. The shift from Android to iOS/iOS to Android is far less of an occurrence than the shift from Android brand to Android brand.

I still love that mock-up where they couldn’t be doing it properly and just scaled up an iPhone X to match the dimensions.

the fact that APPLE made all PLUS owners downsize really sucked! so i'm hoping this is really happening next Sept. when new iPhones are released. X now is great but the Plus size will be magnificent!
I didn't downsize. Just decided to keep my iPhone 6s Plus instead of getting this year's iPhone. ;)

It's great if they give people the choice of a bigger phone, but with the iPhone X, I think they hit upon the goldilocks of phone sizes: big enough for an impressive screen but not too big. It's about at the upper limit for one-handed use.

Then you have a limited imagination.

How bout a vivid one... Apple is so powerful that after it launching iPhone X Plus - that when people complain you will go tell them to grow longer fingers or bigger hands !

I’m really enjoying my iPhone 8 Plus right now. I would not mind getting the iPhone X plus at all. The thing is I could buy a MacBook for the that price.

Still really hoping for an iPhone X mini, something like ~4.5-5" it would be the perfect size for me. I'm fine with their being bigger options, I just wish they offered a smaller one too.

Samsung Display will supply Apple with between 180 and 200 million flexible OLED displays for the iPhone in 2018, up from an estimated 50 million this year, according to The Korea Herald's sister publication The Investor.

While the report focuses on the iPhone X, it's likely that a portion of the OLED displays will go towards the "iPhone X Plus" rumored to launch alongside the second-generation iPhone X in the second half of 2018.

Like the Galaxy Note 8, the iPhone X Plus is expected to have a 6.4-inch display, but its overall physical size will likely be closer to an iPhone 8 Plus. Meanwhile, the next iPhone X will likely retain its 5.8-inch display.

With both a full year of iPhone X sales and the addition of the iPhone X Plus to the lineup in 2018, Apple will undoubtedly need many more OLED displays, so today's report about Samsung quadrupling its production next year makes sense. Samsung could reportedly gain an extra $22 billion in revenue from the orders.

The report also claims Samsung has achieved around a 90 percent yield rate, compared to around 60 percent earlier this year, meaning it is getting more efficient at making OLED displays that live up to Apple's strict quality standards. This could lead to improved shipping estimates for next year's launch.

The new iPhone X and iPhone X Plus will likely launch around the usual timeframe of September to October, potentially alongside a new 6.1-inch mid-range model with an LCD display that is predicted to start at around $649 to $749.

There's no word on how much the iPhone X Plus could cost yet, but given the iPhone X starts at $999, the larger version should have a four-digit price tag. Apple charges a $100 premium for other Plus-sized iPhones, so it's possible the iPhone X Plus could start at around $1,099, but it's too early to say.

Apple is likely to remain dependent on Samsung for supply of OLED displays next year, but the company is reportedly investing billions into LG building OLED display production lines dedicated to the iPhone by 2019.

Man that mock-up is SWEET! I mean, how did he increase it like that!?!?!

Seriously shouldn't the notch be the same size as the X even if the screen was bigger? Does a bigger phone need a bigger flood projector? Are they putting a DSLR in the notch?
