Nov 10-17If you’re a scalper I hate you.
So, interesting update. Just out of curiosity I went directly to the MyAtt app and ordered a 64Gb Silver for my wife and it was still available for the 3rd. So, I just won’t respond to the reservation email when it arrives.
Went to cancel mine at Apple and it says unavailable to edit or cancel. I went ahead and purchased one on Att as well. We’ll see what happens when Apple tries to associate it with my number in 5 weeks and finds out I already have one. Worst case I’ll end up with one to sell.
Strange that Att’s system was quick and responsive yet Apple couldn’t get data from Att. Not saying all the blame is necessarily on Apple, but in the past it was worse to buy from my provider, but this year appears much better.
Does Apple honor the warranty or AppleCare on resold iPhones like that. I have suspicions on a 1.0 product you’re gonna need that warranty.Got 5 phones 11/3. Can sell 3. It’s all good. Piece of cake really.
States 'sim free' and no they do not.
I got my 8 Plus 256 just walking into a store on Saturday after release day. I had to go to another town, but places all seemed to have a few in stock. I think the X will be a great iPhone.. but it’s an Apple 1.0 product and in 2 months there will be some “horrible defect” in the early models and everyone will be talking about “defect-gate X” (trademarking that name now!) when the manufacturing difficulties and rushed process has been pretty well known for a month. This is why I was happy to order the 8 Plus 256GB, & have it for over a month. I am a total Apple user, but this stuff every year is insane. Apple should, by now, be able to forecast demand, and have enough supply to satisfy the initial surge. If not, wait to announce & launch. Of course, every tech publication is also compliant, giddily reporting every possible feature of the NEXT phone, before everyone gets the new phone they just ordered. I suspect a tipping point is in the not too distant future.
I doubt it will be £250 cheaper in the US.
Firstly thanks for the pointer to CPW (carphone warehouse). I managed to put two orders in, got email stating order is being processed, so fingers crossed they havent just forgotten to update their website as sold out :/
In return here are some tips:
1) Go via topcashback. They are currently offering £20 cashback on Sim Free purchases (including iPhone X) from CPW.
2) Order for delivery, as you have 14 days to return. CPW don't allow returns for store purchases :/
3) Unfortunately SIM FREE only means the phone is not locked to any network on arrival. CPW purchased iPhones have historically locked to the network of the first SIM you insert in them. As an example see this thread:
https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Support/unlock-Iphone-7-from-carphone-warehouse/td-p/19519822
Fortunately my network (Vodafone) will unlock for free. But if yours doesn't you may want to consider the Three workaround discussed on that thread (although the last post suggests three refused him/her because the SIM and phone weren't purchased together).
4) For future reference, SIM Free only means the phone is not locked upon receiving it. Unlocked means it is permanently Unlocked. The confusion arises because the terms are used interchangeably and usually such phones are actually Unlocked rather then SIM Free. But iPhones bought from CPW and some other suppliers are a rare instance where the phone is actually SIM Free rather then unlocked.
Hope thats helps and thanks again for the pointer to CPW, fingers crossed order goes through for launch day delivery![]()
$1000 phone, what a deal.![]()
Nope. Things dont work that way. You will never have a perfect launch especially launching hardware at the scale Apple does. They'd love to get everyone their phones on day 1. However, with tens of millions of people that's pretty much impossible right now due to a number of factors like sourcing parts assembly shipping you name it. It's almost impossible. This is why I was happy to order the 8 Plus 256GB, & have it for over a month. I am a total Apple user, but this stuff every year is insane. Apple should, by now, be able to forecast demand, and have enough supply to satisfy the initial surge. If not, wait to announce & launch. wow thats one expensive phone! Hope its worth it.I think I scored one off EE. I think. I have a confirmation email. But I'm not sure. Anyways, expensive at £100 a month, but seems equivalent to my current contract + apple upgrade plan cost + insurance.
Ahh knew there was something I was missing.Theirs a £69 upfront payment. Totals out to £999.

That launch was about as smooth as I could have asked for. Pre authorizing through the Apple upgrade program made things so simple. Aside from being on the East coast and having to wake up at 10 to 3 this morning, got in at 3:04am via the app and was able to order the 256 space gray for delivery on Nov 3rd!
