Kept refreshing the app and the website. App finally came up at 12:11 PST. I have to wait until November 24th. Total crap. I can't believe no news organizations are talking about the outages and problems Apple had last night. The forums are full of people sharing stories, so I know it's not just me. Where's the story MR?
I heard apple blocks certain IPs so that's why people got in at different time? What I learned from today is to open the app/web page with different internet providers. Turn off phone's wifi so it will use different route from your laptop, or have a second pc connected to some VPN...

I disagree that apple got it totally right for us IUP folks given that apple does not make it easy to get in when their servers are bombarded I was on upgrade program and yes did the preapproval stuff on Monday so once, emphasis on once I got in at 2:12 it was fast but the dates had already slipped to November 17-24th shipping for me. So other than saving a bit of time once I was in still rate this as a fail for me an apple upgrade participant. Until they make the program so that they can work out all in program availability I do not see much advantage other than the speed thru after you are lucky enough to get in.

What I know of servers I have worked with when I was doing IT volunteer work they just cannot handle the load well and I am not sure why it took so long other than demand. Last year I got in within 5 minutes and scored my 7plus 256 on delivery day. No it is not a disaster but dang getting on the 3rd was really what I wanted now I have to wait for thanksgiving week and I have some hassles then which may mean I have to tell the Fedex or UPS folks to hold my phone a day depending on which day it arrives. Friday, Wed and Mondays work for me so the November 3 would have been perfect.

Yes in perspective (and after a few hours sleep as well LOL) truly just a minor a true minor first world problem for sure and I am glad I at least am getting a X before end of November, just that I had hoped I would get in like last year and my pre approval stuff would have scored a November 3 delivery oh well. And having the ability to have the old phone shipped 14 days after I get the X is nice the nearest apple stores are Chicago (2 hours plus) and Indianapolis nearly two hours for me so that is not an appealing option. Having complained I just do not think that as long as this is how preorder days go there is much that can be done, it seems to be luck of the draw in getting in, plus having 55 countries all at once probably was the source of many of us failing the first 10 minute to get in that led to the slipping dates so fast more than just limited supply of X's

That’s why I don’t bother with the upgrade program. It needs to be setup so that participants are automatically setup for an upgrade every year (with a web portal to opt out or specify a different model).

It slipped drastically because of you MR! You shared the secrets of how to order it fast using it app. Lol

Not the case for me!!! I got up at 2:57 east coast, and tried over and over with the apple app, and the GD thing kept coming up with the “ we have something in store for you, be right back” ********!! This is the second time I have purposefully set an alarm to pre-order and I couldn’t get thru to apple servers until 13 minutes after !!! I tried closing the app, then re-opening, I tried refreshing the the web-site in safari, I didn’t get thru until I went to macrumors twitter page and hit their link!!! Total BS!!! 5-6 week wait for me!!!!

Same exact thing for me. The website came up before the app did. And since I do the preapproval process on Monday, it wouldn’t let me order through the website. Firstworldproblems

Indeed first world problems for sure. I had my Mac with store site, iPad and phone but of course the preapproval would only work on phone but the former never showed for me so however the nodes in my central Illinois (Chicago ) connect to the internet and apple servers just did not let me slip in like I did last year in first 5 minutes and score a 7Plus. More disappointing to have to wait a bit longer LOL but not end of world, more just why the heck do I bother to put myself thru this half the time it is a month or so before I get my phone. last year was best experience and first on apple IUP, AT&T was always pretty delayed in getting phones to me on next program.

Ugh, my order somehow went through twice; I received two different confirmation emails, each with a different order number. I'm going to contact Apple to find out how to resolve this, but has anyone else had this issue before? Did it mess up your order?

Card was just charged for 256 space grey

I just checked my order and it has changed to "preparing to dispatch"

I know that doesn't mean anything in itself, and will probably stay like that for a few days, but it does seem a bit early. It means it can't be cancelled now, so anyone (especially in the UK) who has one ordered with Apple and is wondering whether to cancel it or not may find that isn't possible soon.

I can attest to this.
Yesterday, nothing worked. Refreshed the app every second... Until I turned off my wifi, used safari and got in to order. Otherwise, I'd probably still be waiting for the app to refresh. It wasn't until later that the app started to work. Albeit, it was only 1 minute or so later but by then the shipping could have much longer. Every second counts. I ordered two with 2-3 weeks wait.

Liar, liars, pants on fire :D

Buy online as DIstamce selling regs apply.

Also if You google CPW iPhone, you’ll find other people have been given misleading advice about wether they lock to first network. Get it in writing, or have a backup plan (I.e check what your network charges).
Ok, i'll have a look at the return thing again. Btw, they do say that all those iPhones are sim free & unlocked (its on the website you gave me so I assume that bit is fine. :)

yes I am wondering that. I wonder if they can ever do that then the program would be perfect. Only reason I do it thru apple is AT&T seldom comes thru on opening day.and often is later by several weeks. I have to use one of these programs never have a grand just sitting around and saving the interest from a full charge to my credit card is part of why I use these programs. So I like that I just pay for a year half the price and trade. Second I did like one aspect of the IUP this year -- the preapproval process.. I got my credit, carrier (AT&T) and phone all set up so that when I finally connected took me less than minute to finish even with a delivery like this:

Items to be Shipped
Shipment 1
Ships: 2–3 weeks
Delivers: Nov 17 - Nov 24 by Standard Shipping

My experience at 2 am CDT in Illinois is that credit approvals, fraud check issues and problems connecting with carrier servers at this time to confirm my account and status for upgrade always led to issues with one of those items taking longer and not finishing til morning when credit, carrier checks would work after overloads went down.

I do wonder next fall if the "11" and rumored "11plus" are made available in normal September time frame my IUP will not let me be approved til I at least get to 11 months (then a month after September) and I will have to pay a month. So I may be off the cycle already because of this weirdness with the X anyway. I guess I will just see what happens.

I got on about 3:05am est by opening and closing the Apple store app on my phone. Ordered with the att next program I always have (still had to go through att to get approval and sign the contract) and got the space gray 256gb iPhone X being delivered 11/3. Email confirmation came through at 3:08am est.

Just reading that article at 9to5mac about scalpers hitting Ebay already  That's some cut throat stuff right there. If China really has sold, which seems to be the case. Some of these listings are going to get their asking price.

I'm skeptical of the November 3rd listings so late in the ordering process. Either those times are going to change or everyone got Kansas City Shuffled by Apple :D

for me, the confirmation email came immediately (like 1 second after ordering)
I was done ordering at 12:13 PDT (2:13 CDT in Illinois where I am) but I did not get the email confirmation til almost 4 AM CDT. I got my citizens approval note on loan though but 3 AM CDT so I knew all was well and just went to bed.

I ordered mine 6 min after when it finally allowed me in, nov 21-28, I have a 0$ charge on my card, and no email from apple confirming I placed an order ( if I log in it does appear though) is this normal?

Live in Canada, so its bought unlocked no carrier business

I'm really impressed with the iPhone Upgrade program. The app didn't refresh for me till about 3:12 EST, then everything went smoothly. I got an in-store picked up for 11/3. The delivery dates were 11/15, so I said I'll just take the morning off and pick up the phone. Hopefully the Apple Store isn't a mob scene.

I have a Nov 10th delivery date and ordered from a Chicago computer (after failing to get the site to load from my Middle East connected system). That’s a straight upgrade.

I’d love to join the upgrade program as I don’t think I’d be able to get half the price of an iPhone a year later. Their value just doesn’t hold up as well as it used to. However the upgrade program needs to be tied to my service provider and right now I’m on a company provided plan so don’t have access to the account details to sign up.

i paid in full with a debit card via ApplePay..
so maybe that’s the difference with the email timing.

Hey FYI I was in a similar boat last year for my first IUP upgrade, and they noticed I was in the program when I showed up. They put IUP people in a separate line and let us go first. Also, they didn't let in any more people at a time than were able to be supplied a device. Everyone else in the store was looking for something aside from phones, and if someone decided they wanted a phone, they were instructed to go wait in the line out front as it was launch day.

I stayed up tp order last night and got an order in at 8 minutes past 3am EST. delivery in two weeks. Got this wonderful email from Apple this morning.

There was a problem processing your application for the iPhone Upgrade Program or iPhone Payments with Citizens One because we were unable to verify your information.
Please place a new order on apple.com.

Back to the end of the line for me

ATT app shows I could order a Silver 64 GB right now, "shipping November 2- November 10."
T-Mobile has the same estimates as well. They still had launch day delivery at 5AM EST. I was tempted but I'm already committed to the 8 Plus so I will be wait until next year.

I stand by my earlier point. Apple (or anybody, really) should really be more proactive about this
