Exactly why I said screw it and ordered an 8 Plus the other night. By the time Apple fulfills all the orders for this phone the next iPhone will be not too far behind.

Next Keynote.
Tim Cook: "One more thing! The next Concept iPhone! It is the future! Since it is not even built yet! But it is the feature! Hologram, transportation device! It is perfect (in our minds)!"

My guess...unless you order that night, you're looking at 6 to 7 weeks until order arrives. I'd like this but I only buy the unlocked versions, so I have to wait even longer.
If this report is accurate, 6 to 7 weeks is extremely optimistic.

There weren't any Plus models in any stores for a couple of launches over the last four years. There won't be any in stores on the 3rd.
I ordered my 6S+ on the evening of launch day, picked it up in the store the next morning.

I'm not buying this story. The flagship product from the biggest consumer electronics company on Earth is supposed to be landing in people's hands and store shelves in 6 weeks, but mass production hasn't begun yet and isn't expected to begin for another few weeks?

I doubt they would have announced a launch date at all if production wasn't already going. This isn't amateur hour. This isn't a kid rushing to get his book report done on time. This is a multi-billion dollar company that has been in this game for years.

i'm usually rolling into launch day (every S year) with a busted ass phone / cracked screen / etc.. that i'd held out on having repaired/replaced since i'll be updating in a few months.

right now however, my 6s is still in good shape even though it's been dropped quite a few times..

if there's going to be a delay in me receiving a X, this appears to be a good year for that to happen.
i don't need a new phone right now.. i just want one ;)

under that circumstance, it's less painful to have to wait.

----
so, to any of you walking around with a shattered screen and waiting for the X, my sympathies go out to you..
(but i'm sorry, i'm not going to wait to place an order so you have a better chance at getting your replacement first. : )

Uuuugh. Still going to try my hardest to get one on the 3rd, but damn.

Apple's getting really good at faking these shortage issues. Not going to sell anything of significant quantity for months after they were hoping to. That's commitment to conspiracy!

Seriously though, it sounds like these things are going to be pretty rare until Feb/March.

Apple has no excuses for this. I would understand if it had fingerprint sensor under the screen, or some ohter new "wicked" feature, but not this. It's the same technology as in any other OEMs flagship this year, yet they're struggling with even starting a production?

As a recent Android switcher (every iPhone to date) I can confirm that the opinion above is somewhat outdated, it's working beautifully for me and not that much pain as I've been moving away from the woefully out of date cloud services from Apple for a while.

Another bonus of moving away, no bun fight on release day :)

Not outdated at all, i had the note 7 for a while last year and Android continues to be an unpolished mess. But this is just my opinion not an argument. Everyone has their own opinion and perception that’s why there’s choice.

While I believe supply is going to be limited, I don't think it's going to be THIS limited.

They aren't even making the first phone until 2 weeks before release?? What in the hell are they thinking. At most they will only have a couple million on release day for a worldwide release, that's just crazy talk. Basically it will be luck of fulfillment among the people who hit the submit button in that very first second it is up. Everybody else will be weeks to months.

Something to remember: the iPhone 10S will probably launch in September 2018.

If you are on a 12 month upgrade cycle you’re not getting a new phone until closer to 2019 if your X is not delivered 4-6 weeks after launch.

And if the production problems are accurate will apple be a hot flaming disaster, as well.

Yes as it has been with a lot of their recent releases. I’m not a ra-ra guy for any company they don’t pay me royalties. I can admit Samsung has much better hardware, but it is my opinion that android is horrible and iOS is much better. And again the keyword there being “opinion”

Not sure I understand your unlocked comment. If you don't buy under a plan aren't they unlocked?
The unlocked, sim free phone works on every carrier, meaning the IMEI is in Verizon and Sprint whitelist.

While it's true that any phone you pay full price for up front directly from Apple is unlocked, it won't necessarily work on every carrier or provision a new sim.

Example, the GSM (AT&T) 6S. I had one on hand at the Apple Store, checked VZW whitelist, no go. I wasn't worried about Sprint, so I exchanged it for the VZW version. Even though I was using AT&T at the time I wanted VZW compatibility and I didn't feel like waiting for the sim free phone to be released. Hope that's helps.
