8 is likely smart middle-ground update, intentionally added into pipeline during spring/summer.

Why the presumption against Cooks competence in supply chain mgmt? He could likely outthink us all in his sleep, in this area.

So, I will presume that 8 was deemed necessary during the summer cluster****, and it likely took little to no effort to develop, given that 8’s form factor was tested in 6/6s/7 and given that 8’s new features were already being tested for X. Little extra work, and essential to ensure that some easier improvements would be accessible to customers via 8, while X kinks continued to be sorted.

Given my time in this ProdDev area, I would further presume that X was planned for release in 2016! But again Cook maintained development of existing form factor as insurance - and that proved necessary. X was not feasible last year, hence we got 7.

Further back still, the original iPhone was planned for years before feasible for release. The iPhone was originally a stand in for the iPad, and was released because it was possibke and because feasible releases are essential to maintain revenue.

I am blown away by the presumptive superiority of the popular comments made herr in reply to this news. You so smart. I expect pithy one liners in response, but I wont mind ...

... and Cook wont either. He is already frustrated with himself and team (tho he will gake the blame) that he cannot deliver on time with all the best he wants. Still, its better than most, and I would die laughing to see you all try to manage what he does.

They are working how to add a notch at the bottom .....problem solved

And according to my apple reps I saw today, it's not a notch, it's "camera housing " and we should embrace it :)

This is one of the negative things I dislike Apple. Promoting something that hasn't been ready.

Edit: By the time iphone x is ready, samsung would be like, "We gonna double our effort to make android cleaner and user-friendly...and if they want AR...we got that...and if they want good screen, we double the nits."

Apple needs as many of these in people's hands before Christmas. This is THE flagship device for Apple and there is so much at stake in them meeting as much demand as is humanly possible. Cook will make mountains move to ensure that this is not another Airpods debacle.

I've not done (or thought) this for a long long time, but I'm going to stay away from the X until people have it in their hands and have had it in their hands for a few months. The production delays are starting to worry me.

There used to be a saying about Apple products, never buy the first gen. I know this is hardly the first generation of iPhone, but so much has changed that I'm going to hold off - my 6S is still doing great.

Also that price tag might have something to do with my feelings :p

my decision to keep my 7Plus until Rev 2 of this product is looking better and better

Here’s hoping if EE do charge close to 90 pounds per month it will put people off buying lol

Will try with the IUP if that fails or is delayed

They should have skipped releasing the 8/8+ so they can put all of their efforts into the X. A lot of people seemed to skip the iPhone 8 and are waiting on the X.

Well I am not because it was pretty obvious this was likely to happen. People should face up to the reality that they aren’t going to have an X in their hands until sometime in the first quarter of 2018.

Barking at the wrong tree. Apple is pretty much the only company who usually announces something and get's it to your house at the end of the next week. I don't know any other tech company who does it this way.
I'm just saying. If pre-ordering date is still standing then..it's fine. Would something like this affect ordering date?

Exactly, even though I'm thinking of getting an 8 Plus 64gb, because of only $30 dlls difference between the 7 Plus 128gb, it is the most mediocre "number" update, it is pointless, all the resources should've gone the to X.

Going to keep quoting my own post in threads like this. Can't wait for pre-order day!

I'm going to make a lot of popcorn and follow the iPhone X Preorder thread in a month when everyone here is crying about having to wait 2-3 months to get their new iPhone. iPhone X will turn into a 2018 iPhone very fast when pre-orders open and initial 4-8 weeks of supply sell out immediately.
