I've not done (or thought) this for a long long time, but I'm going to stay away from the X until people have it in their hands and have had it in their hands for a few months. The production delays are starting to worry me.

There used to be a saying about Apple products, never buy the first gen. I know this is hardly the first generation of iPhone, but so much has changed that I'm going to hold off - my 6S is still doing great.

Also that price tag might have something to do with my feelings :p
you guys crack me up. All Ive heard for the last 3 years is Apple doesnt innovate enough. Now people are crying over “too much change”. Which is it?

Apple saw what worked with Nintendo's NES Classic and Switch. I'm sure they are taking a page form them. Set a limit on what they want to sell and then artificially create a shortage on the device so it can sell like hot cakes.
Yes, and watch Wall Street experts cry afoul about Apple getting lazy, the myriad of news stories and the people whinging in blog posts around the world. Then, Father Christmas comes around and Apple sells the X in full force. Everyone conveniently forgets their whining and Apple stock soars like an eagle.

Kuo reported on iPhone X production already at 10.000 units a day and slowly ramping up like 10 days ago.

True, I’ve lost count how many times these analysts made public announcements based on supply chain checks only to be proven wrong.

Heck, Tim warned them a few times already not to read too much into their supply chain checks because it’s more complicated than they realize but they never learn.

Gawd, preorder night is going to be interesting! The jet black 7 Plus will be a cakewalk compared to this thing. But I'll fire up a pot of coffee and give it the ol' college try anyway.

I think this is a marketing tactic to drive up the demand right before the holiday season but I bet I may have them for my daughters by spring.

Why do people like to twist Kuo's words? He said nothing about ramping up either.

Due to component supply constraints, we estimate current production of the OLED iPhone at less than 10k units per day, which means the model will remain in severe short supply for a while.

They should have skipped releasing the 8/8+ so they can put all of their efforts into the X. A lot of people seemed to skip the iPhone 8 and are waiting on the X.

I think this just was not possible due to the supply problems which they early anticipated.

iPhone 8 is being used to meet the basic demand while testing consumer’s price sensitivity through selling iPhone X.

The overall target clearly is to establish a new price tag above 999$ for smart phones to recover iPad or Mac sales.

Lol everyone is going to be getting hyped for iPhone X2, or whatever the hell they call it, by the time some people even get their pre-order X. Based solely on Apple's supply chain, this thing was not ready for prime time.

Thank you. This happens all time. Jet black had tight constraints. It’s always same excuse. If Apple wants they had enough time to make them.

Drones.

Face sensing animoji's are really worth 200 more? A nicer screen? .... At what point will everyone realize that it's okay to buy a new device when the actual old one doesn't work anymore rather than just buying a new one because it's new?
At what point will you (and others) realize what's worth it to someone else is really not for you to decide or talk condescendingly about...

Losing 10 billion $ in sales on a FY is not a marketing tactic. You can bet there are a few hundred people working at Apple scrambling night and day to get those phones out asap.

They probably announced it because of all the leaks this summer. But the device wasn’t ready. We heard it was going into production in September but could only produce 10,000 a day. Seems they’re having even further issues preventing mass production. Also with the NAND shortages and screen supplies from Samsung being shorted makes perfect sense that it’s not ready.
10000 units a day sounds awfully low. Its most likely much much higher.

Part of me is thinking I should just get the 8 for now and grab the newer version of the X next year. I feel like those not lucky enough to get the first batch are going to be waiting until January to get their phones.

Plus, as much as I like my Apple gear, rev A. hardware is often with some problem.
