I think the machine is keyed for the Belkin size screen protector. They are not all cut 100% the same.

And I agree, I've bought off brand ones on Amazon and never had a problem. Sure they may only stick properly without lifting for a few months (the quality may not be top notch), but you can easily find a 2 pack for $8. Even if you change it every 3 months for a year you're out under $20 still.

I have used the spigen ones for years. Only had to replace once a year when cracked. But I can see the size difference with the machine only working for Belkin. Makes sense

I never run one on my iPhone. I do run a semi-matte protector on my iPad Pro though. I like how it feels to write on with the Apple Pencil.

I always go with belkin from the Apple store. They have a machine that will install it perfectly in seconds with no bubbles or anything. Can’t even tell I have one on my 7 plus. Looks flawless

They don't go to the edges, even of the actual display, so will probably look like crap on the X IMO, and everyone one I have ever used from Belkin has cracked, not from dropping, just pull it out of my pocket one day and it is cracked.

No one needs screen protectors.

If I put my phone in my pocket day 1 without a screen protector it has scratches on it by the end of the night.

I can't stand that one, doesn't go to the edges, so looks horrible, and feels worse when swiping.

Totally agree

I've been using the zagg glass screen protector on my iPhone 6 and it's been great for me, I also put one on my mothers iphone 8 and she likes it as well. I like that if for some reason I need it, I can get a replacement for the screen protector (as long as you mail the broken one back, you just pay $5 for the replacement) through zagg. I will go with zagg again for my iPhone X, it's worth it to me.

I bought the Maxboost from Amazon - cheap 3 pack of glass ones that was Prime eligible. The Anker ones did not ship until mid-November.

I figure I will use these to get by on 2 phones and if not good quality, get the Zagg version for each on Black Friday or the next big sale.

Why do people spend so much on name brand glass protectors. What do they do that the cheaper glass ones do not?

I think people are in for a rude awakening when it comes to glass screen protectors for this phone.

Making them for devices with curved displays -- even popular ones like Samsung S8 / Note 8 -- has been a nightmare for Zagg and other companies. Everything they've put out has been terrible.

We'll see what comes of it, but I'm not optimistic.

(Zagg's InvisibleShield Glass+ is already on shelves at Best Buy, fyi. Same for their wet install film.)

I've always had great experience with TechArmor on past phones.

But trying Anker this time. I really like the look of the adapter they provide to help with alignment. I might order some techarmor just in case as well

A “skin” is a wet installation screen protector. What I’m talking about is a dry application crystal clear film screen protector that you peel off and stick directly to the screen and is incredibly thin and nearly invisible.

Here’s an example, these are for the iPhone 7 Plus by Tech Armor:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JJLJJBQ/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_T4r8zbCQKCJ3H

I've had terrific luck with Tech Armor on 6S, 7, iPad Mini, they're pretty easy to install and the surface *feels* like glass, the resistance specifically. Super cheap as well, so as they get banged up, you can easily removed and replace it.

I'm kind of thinking about a clear skin/film front and rear and then just a bumper type case (you know, with an open front/back).

A bumper with glass would work though, no?

Bought two of these front + back glass screen protectors, one in edge-to-edge black with a black back and one normal clear one. I wanted the black front and the clear back so I contacted the seller and they told me that they couldn't do a clear back and black front but I could order both sets and they'd refund me for one of them. Got the refund the day after placing the order so got two front + back sets for 11.99. For anyone looking for the same set up, I'd reach out to this seller.

Well, in the case of the belkin, it is made of Gorilla Glass 2. Show me a 10 dollar screen protector that is made of gorilla glass and I'll buy it.

Are you planning on leaving the sides naked?

I'm gonna see how much protection the front + back glass seems to offer. If I think it's subpar, then I'll go for a clear case. But my standards aren't super high since I'm on IUP with AC+ and usually just use a screen protector as my only device protection. I do have the silver model ordered but I'm not too terribly concerned with scratches on the bezel. And I hate those wet application full body films so I don't have a ton of options even if I did.

There's a zagg kiosk in my local mall so I'll probably be getting one of those. That way if I ever need a replacement I can just take it to them and have a new one in 5 mins for a few bucks.

Great point! This year is appears only the $20.00 Anti-Glare Belkin screen protector (not made of GG 2.0) is available for use with the Apple Store machine. I do not get why the $40.00 one that is made with Corning Accessory Glass 2 is not available for use with the Apple Store machine. They are identical, except for materials made with. May be an oversight on the website?

Edit: It appears the Belkin $40.00 screen protector that is made with Corning Accessory Glass 2 is able to be applied in the Apple Store with the machine, according to Belkins website.

On a side note: If you ever get to visit the Corning Museum of Glass (in Corning, NY) please do, because you will not be disappointed. My mother wanted to go for her birthday last year, so I took her (we live pretty close) and I was hesitant at first because I thought it would be so boring. WOW, was I wrong! Place is AMAZING. I got amazing pictures with my iPhone 7 Plus which I had just got when we went last year. https://www.cmog.org

should i get zagg’s $40 premium glass screen protector?

I had heard that someone says that all glass screen protectors are the same with different packages and stuff.. can anyone confirm if its worth it to purchase zagg

I have the Zagg's glass protector on my 8 Plus and it's most definitely worth it. For years I used Ghost Armor which is that plastic film. It did a good job protecting the screen but you could always tell there was a film on it by look and feel.

Not so with the Zagg's glass. I've had mine on for a month now and you can't tell it's on the phone and it feels exactly the same.

It's worth it.

How can i compare it to others? There is definitely a lot of brands on Amazon. Most of the reviews are from people who havent even got the phone yet!!

Which brand is the most reputable??

I have used the glass Zagg on my 6 Plus ... several of them. it doesn't mater how perfectly you get the protector on it will begin to chip and soon crack. Absolutely NOT from dropping. Just from the strain of every day use of going in and out of a pocket. First it will crack near the base near the charging port or corner. Soon it will have a crack across the screen and it will need to be replaced... about every 6 months or so.

I was once forced by the TSA to remove my glass Zagg because the crack apparently presented a threat. I still say that was a lame excuse but whatever. I wasn't able to get a replacement for that one because my options were throw it away or mail it back to myself (getting out of line.) No way. I had a flight to catch.

I suspect the tiny amount of curvature along the edge of the iPhone screen causes the screen protector to flex and crack over time. Over all just a bad design. Stick to the non glass protectors myself. I won't go back to glass.

i have used Spigen for 3 years now. It has done its job everytime. So why would a more expensive one even matter if the less expensive one works how it should. i upgrade every year so i don't need them more than a year. So the 2 that come in the package is all i need for $8

I guess that means I'll be OK then because my phone doesn't go into my pocket. It's on a desk or on a car seat or in my hand... all the time.

I haven't put a phone in my pocket since bendgate.

So if you're like me OP you'll be fine with the Zagg's glass. It's great! :)

Thats BS, they should do it for anyone that wants it. I thought they were all about customer support. I mean jsut cause I got mine for $7 and not $20.. lol They are all basically made from the same material.
[doublepost=1509119830][/doublepost]

It’s hard to pay $40 when they are $7 on Amazon. They are all basically made out of the same material. Basic hardness is 9h
They don't do it because if they damage it, they can't replace it. With the ones they sell, if something goes wrong they will replace it with a new one. Seems logical to me.
