It might show my age and/or profession (and/or level of nerdiness), but I laughed a little too much at this
Yeah, since it's display, and OLED at that, it's "free" to make the horns black, it'll be interesting to see what's allowed [in the SDK], who makes use of that UI option, how the general UX works with the extra space, or no space, or <whatever>.
Heck, I guess as a developer, I better start paying attention

See I think the same. I thought I was alone lol. The notch to me is a better implementation of a bezel free phone vs how the rest do it.
One can argue how Apple will use the extra space, but there is no argument the X is the closest edge to edge phone out.

For as much hate as the notch gets, at least it has a purpose: Face ID.
The other "bezel-less" phones out here have some bezels that are there for absolutely no reason, like the S8's bottom bezel.

Agreed,i hate that almost every other flagship android looks the same, s8,lg v30,pixel 2 xl,note 8,huawei mate 10,zte nubia etc
How dare Apple try and differentiate their device from the increasing sea of other phones to trim down bezels!
This only proves Apple’s decision in their screen design was well thought out. The fact they shaped the screen right into each corner to match the corners of the device itself makes all the difference.
That’s the best and newest offerings from the top 5 major players in smartphones. Do you really want it to also compare to midrange and budget phones too?

The reason why phones like the S8/Note8 have more screen ratio, is because they have no left/right edges - but personally i think thats a bit of a gimmick, since you can't really use those edges for reading anyways.. Then i rather prefer apple's solution.
So then it could be one of the other ten fakes that Has been released.
Sure, it Could be the real deal, but people gotta understand that China is freaking filled with fakes (I've seen it with my own eyes).
Correct me if im wrong, but i dont think there has been made any fakes with round screen corners. This is a highly customized screen - knock offs usually use off the shell panels.

No I said it, and it is a fact.
yes, even Samsung note last year and this year that the effective screen area for an S8 is 5.7" and not 5.8" because of the edges, and they have 81% STBR. The essential phone has the best STBR
It does, but the bottom bezel ruins the effect even more than the little camera notch.
