I’m waiting for the S4 Nike+ version this time. Mainly to give me a little more time to decide, because for the first time ever, I’m contemplating a switch to an Android phone after thinking things over the last few days ... maybe a Pixel 3 if they turn out ok. Won’t be a Samsung, that’s for sure ... I can’t stand TouchWiz, and I have no desire to root or anything like that in order to circumvent it.

TouchWiz, what were you thinking of buying, an antique? Samsung haven't used TouchWiz for quite some time now, it's a completely redesigned UI with a much lighter skin. Time to get your research hat out.

Judging by the shipping times currently on the website, I assume that the phones did not sell as well this year. Usually by now the delivery estimates slip to 4-6 weeks delivery or longer. Here in the UK all the XS models are still available for launch delivery and the XS Max delivers just 4-7 days after launch which isnt long to wait at all.

Either way I have my XS Max 256gb in Space Grey on its way for launch day :D I was going to go for the gold but its the same nasty cream back the gold iPhone 8 had.

Tempting to upgrade from my 8-Plus ... really can’t justify the ridiculous Canadian prices though. Think I’ll sit this one out or at least wait until some solid reviews hit online.

The new watch is far more appealing - my wife wants one and I’m still asking myself what I benefit from having one. I don’t know anyone that has one to gauge their use.

Still think the XR will be the big seller - and hopefully send a message to Apple that the prices are getting out of hand.

Oh who am I kidding .. $2 trillion evaluation by next year!

ie: I hate TouchWiz because I much prefer stock Android devices. BTW, it’s still TouchWiz, they just changed a lot of it (including how it looks) to address the complaints that people were having.

Let’s see if someone can give me some advise.

I’m on the iPhone X on the IUP. My debate is should I say screw it and get the iPhone Xs Max ($4 more / month - not too too bad), or should I pay the x off, next year sell it and use that money towards the iPhone “whatever it will be called”?

Please don’t make this negative, if I bought this thing out right I would wait for the next version, I’m only considering because I’m on the IUP.

This is not an accurate way to judge. There is the factor of supply and demand. Demand MAY be higher than last year, and if the supply chain was able to be better prepared than last year's launch, estimates would slip later in the pre-order process.

Last year's X launch if I recall correctly was pretty constrained due to a lot of new tech and a new form factor. This year they should have a much greater availability and expertise in all areas of the XS/XS Max due to the more incremental nature of the update.

Plus, the blogosphere thinks the XR will be the new 5c in hotness.

My credit card was just charged. The order is still processing but scheduled to arrive Friday 21 September 2018.

I upgrade annually and look at it as I'm getting a new phone for 1/2 the cost of the phone + AppleCare since I'll trade it in a year later for the upgrade. Plus no interest monthly payments. But I figure I can keep paying for the "old" phone or make the same payment per month (roughly) and have the new hotness. I'm a sucker for new hotness.

Lol that is my exact dilemma. I just like having things paid off, but then again I did get the IUP for that reason exactly... plus, even if I order now, the dates are not terrible.

Xs and aluminum s4 with cellular preparing for shipment. The stainless is still waiting processing. Interesting because I bought all 3 separately. The stainless was the second order placed. Still says it’ll be here on launch day though so not in the least bit worried.

Isn’t that why you joined IUP to upgrade yearly?

I have this feeling that the 2019 iPhone models will have omni-directional FaceID. What would really be disappointing is if the iPad Pro get on omni-directional FaceID this year.

I got the email today notifying me that my Apple Watch Hermes has been dispatched. Delivery is still the 21st.

I’m on iUP as well and I think if you want to upgrade you should! That’s the great part about being in the program. Do what your heart desires! :)

Not in the UK.
All Xs Max models are still showing available for delivery the last week of September.
"Delivers: 25 Sep - 2 Oct"
Nor in Singapore where you can still get Silver Xs Max in any of the three capacities for delivery 21st September.

I agree that the XR will be most popular but I’m thinking the XS will be second followed by the XS Max in popularity.
I think Xr, then Xs Max then Xs. Anyone who wanted to upgrade a Plus for something similar sized couldn't do it last year so they'll buy the Max. Anyone who went for X last year really has no need to upgrade, the changes are so minimal.

This is why I prefer the in store pickup option. Less hassle, less likely to go "missing", and they are bound to have it. Yes, it is a drive to the store but I find it totally worth it, especially if you have plenty of Apple stores around.

I ordered after 24 hours and still found a Xs Max 256 space gray for pick up in store on launch day.

Someone explain to me why everyone gets all excited every year when things go to "preparing to ship" or "shipped"? In my experience no matter when the status says what, 99% of people seem to get their stuff the same day they were quoted.

It is exciting because we know that as we see things change throughout the week that we are likely to get our devices on the stated delivery day. These devices are always supply constrained. We all were up in the middle of the night placing our orders so that we could have them on day one and we like to track the journey. Let me put it this way, this is no different from how we felt about Christmas when we were kids. It is that same level of anticipation and we used to count the days and track Santa (was that a thing back in the day?).

This may be a dumb question, but how does everyone on the Upgrade Program have eligibility to upgrade if you have been on the program for years? When the X came out we got it day one (I think), which meant our new loan started end of Oct. Have only made 11 payments - so it shows eligibility of 9/27. I thought everyone’s loan reset when they get the new phone and after having made 12 payments? In that case wouldn’t all existing loan users have the same dilemma? Or are they paying that extra month in addition to the new payment? I almost upgraded but then it seems like it would be best to wait until 9/27.

When you place the order, your bill includes:
  • 12th payment for current phone
  • Tax for new phone
  • 1st payment for new phone
I am actually quite pleased by the way they handled this. They did a decent job explaining it before we ordered and it was crystal clear when placing the order.

Tablets will remain Apple for the time being.

Were the Nike+ versions not available on launch day?

You are comparing apples to oranges, no pun intended. Last year the X was severely supply constrained. If I remember correctly, the FaceID component was the limiting factor. This led to it shipping much later than normal and having a tight supply then. Pre-sales began on October 27th. Phone was released on November 3rd. After 5 minutes of ordering they were already delayed past that. However, Apple did a very good job of getting the supply ramped up quickly.

I ordered an iPhone X for both me and my wife last year. I was up at 3:00 a.m. placing the order. The store did not respond well and I couldn't get the order placed for at least 15 minutes (I don't remember exactly).

  • Our delivery dates were listed as November 17–24th.
  • They updated mine to November 8th
    • I received it on November 6th (the Monday after the Friday release)
  • They updated my wife's to November 15th
    • We received hers on November 10th (1 week after release)
