This has to be false.

There is no way Apple is going to have a no screen, 1gb iPod out for 149 and then have a 4gb iPod at 199.

Also, as for Apple asking resellers to send back the iPod photos, maybe this is because the standard iPods will gain a color screen, along with photo capability.

I think i read at apple insider that they will sell the 4gb minis at 199 untill they run out of supply then they will discontinue selling them at 199

I just cannot put my hands around some of this stuff.

$150.00 drop in the iPod Photo? At $349.00 I would assume they would just do away with the 20GB monochrome and make this the starting end...but what to call it? If you don't just call it iPod, you dilute the brand...and why have a monochrome 20GB iPod for $299.00 when you can have a color Photo-capable iPod at $349.00? Heck, even if the iPod went down to $249.00 it gets awful close to the iPod mini.

Maybe they have gotten so efficient at making these things that their margins have increased tremendously.

I cannot see them selling a 4GB iPod mini for $199.00 on a long term basis. No way. Period.

The $249.00 color screen mini I can see happening.

A total change to the mini colors? Uh uh, Nope. Maybe one or two changes, but the whole line?

It will be very interesting to see how this all shakes out.

I've been very lucky so far with purchases (iBook, iMac G5, shuffle...but I just sold my 3G 15GB iPod last week to buy a 4G 20GB...looks like I might get the short end of the upgrade stick for once. :D

More on ship times

The latest (as of 5:45pm EST):

ipod mini: 5-7 days
ipod photo: 2-4 days

and my personal favorite: imac : 3-5 days :D

Old with the old, in with the new!!!

Just thought everyone might like to know (since most people are busy reading the forums!)

Of course, I remember the anxiety and happiness back in april when I purchased my green mini....I remember the repeated posts of people taking pictures of the packaging, and how lovingly everyone talked about the size and color....

And now, they're yesterday's news! lol

I am loving this sold my mini for $240 on ebay last night. And the guy already paid :)

This is exactly what I need to do, but my luck I wouldn't get any bids!

I wonder if the size and dock connector will remain the exact same on the new mini's or if all new cases, dock, etc. will have to be made...

shot in the dark here...........

what if the delay for the iMac is so they can incorporate a docking station in the iMac to hold a iPod. New iPods and New iMacs, that are integrated?

I dont know.

Hey, any of you veterans remember the August-September timeframe when rumors about the design of the new imac came out? One of the original (I think it was from thinksecret, but don't quote me) was about a "pizza box" design.

I think trout might be onto something- perhaps an oversized dock for the imac- it would essentially look like an ipod, moreso than now.

But in all fairness, this would be totally pointless, but cool nonetheless. I know I'm reaching here, but come on people! :p Some of us didn't have Monday off and need the humor.

Yeah, I had to work, too...publishing business and all...deadlines. :(

I really can't wait to see what comes of this...it's a good puzzler.

Interesting. If the rumors prove true, heres what you'd have as an iPod family.

$99 iPod Shuffle 512mb
$149 iPod Suffle 1gig
$199 iPod Mini Mono.
$249 iPod Mini Color
$299 iPod Mono. 20
$349 iPod Photo 30
$349 iPod Photo 60

Interesting. I'm taking Marketing right now in college, and it would be an interesting approach. An iPod for every taste. Essentially, Monochrome would be the "closeout"'s of the line... eventually giving way to a potentially large gap between $249 6 gig and $349 30 gig color models. I dont see the monochrome models being such a large problem for the brand simply because I think they will be looked at as "clearence" models. Color across the entire iPod line is great... but the lack of a $299 price point may hurt (after all the iPod 20's sell out).

4 gig+screen = $200
1 gig no screen = $150

doesn't seem right to me...they better do something about their shuffle prices and/or capacity

People said the same thing when the iPod mini came out January 2004, and the minis have flown off the shelves ever since. "People will NOT pay $249 for a 4 GB player when they can get a 20 GB player for $299." Well, that didn't turn out to be the case.

i can't see my order status, it did this last time right before the power book got upgade on the site. any one else have the upgrade page in order status? maby they have to fix alll of the old mini's to the new one? and if am right i take all credit  i found a new sign :)

I like that idea, and it was discussed on these boards around the time the new iMac came out at Macworld Paris. It would require a commitment by Apple that the iPod size is going to be standardized for some time to come. From 1G, to 2G, to 3G to 4G, Apple has (AFAIK) made slight changes to the form factor each time.

It makes a great hard-drive-to-go and could represent a huge shift to a bring-your-own-hard-drive mentality. Personally, I would love to be able to plug my "computer," i.e., my iPod, in at a public terminal and have it look and feel exactly like my PowerBook/iMac. If several new lines of Mac came that way, it would eliminate having to update everything when you get a new computer and take away a big barrier to entry. Plus, there's no harddrive cost.

There would be issues of where the OS resides and that sort of thing, so it probably would function as a sort of external drive.

I would also love to see a car audio player with a slot like an old eight-track player that you just slide your iPod into.

I like the iPod as a physical manifestation of my music, my photos, my Word files, my accounting, etc., that I can utilize a lot of different ways.

Just wondering. Where on an iMac would you put an iPod dock?

I have a feeling Apple will correct that over the summer. The entry level iPod (AFAIK) always been $299. If Apple does NOT reallign this summer with a $299 iPod, I think one of two things is going on:

1. Apple is moving the entry point for iPod up to $349 because it wants to give it some separation from shuffle and mini, which have lower price points. This makes particularly good sense if Apple is going to make the iPod more than a music player but leave shuffle and mini as basic players.

OR

2. This is transitional, and the prices of everything will continue to come down incrementally. Maybe Apple is thinking that when the 80 GB drive is ready, it could do 40/60/80 nine months or a year from now for $249/$349/$449.

Sold my mini last night for $225. Couldn't be happier, unless of course the rumor sites are all wrong. I will be so sad if I wake up tomorrow and there is nothing but silence from Apple.

Does anyone find it strange there is no event planned to trumpet the new iPods? I think that fact guarantees no bluetooth. Too revolutionary for it to be a silent upgrade and not have Steve trumpet the latest Apple innovations. Especially given the software advances they will do with the software end.

New iPod for me

Well if this is true it means a new iPod photo 30gb for me I have been looking to upgrade since the photos came out and this seals the deal especially since my old 2G 10GB got stolen in November I can finally have an iPod again yay! :D

Now, how about those PB G5s? ;)

regular iPods

Isn't it stupid that Apple axes the regular iPod to replace it with an iPod photo? Yes it is! So, why don't we think logically for a minute? Eventually the iPod photo will be renamed "iPod" and the monochromatic-screened iPods will be discontinued, so, as I said on this post, there will be no pont in calling a product "iPod photo" when its main features, color screen and diplsying pictures, have been adopted by the rest of the products of the family as a standard. So the iPod photo will stop existing as "iPod photo" and will simply become the regular iPod. Hope you understand it.
Anyways, today we'll see. I'll be obsessively clicking refresh on apple.com to see the changes.
Oh, and the mini has always been illogically priced, it's stupid today that for 50 more bucks you can get 16GB more, so it will tomorrow to pay 50 additional bucks for a screen and 3GB more.

Oh, BTW, why are you guys so obsessed with the PBs G5? I mean, they will come, eventually, just be patient. Apple has given a lot to you, you don't have the right to push it. They will relese the PB G5 when the battery gets to run for at least 2 hours and it's safe to put it over a wooden desk without burning it. And, trust me, the guys that are asking so much for the Powerbooks will be the first ones to be complaining on the Apple Support Forums beacuse of a problem they didn't get to fix because of the premature release of the computer.

Take it easy Francis.

Anyone know what time these will be available in Central time? 9 a.m. EST is 11 a.m. CST...but I'll be at work then. :( Darn it...I hope they release them earlier. If not I may have to find a computer during my lunch break...that $349 30 GB photo is going to be MINE!

Geez, I hope that's not the most quotable thing I've ever said here... but glad I can be an inspiration to you. :)
