How I got it to work!

I don't know If I was just lucky or on to something. But about 30 min ago (11:35 EST) I preordered my phone. I tried many many times and got the same result, error occurred. So while waiting between the screen where you pick if your an existing customer or not. I clicked on the shopping cart and the phone was there. I completed check out and got a confirmation number. I never went through the "retrieving information from AT&T part". Hopefully this will work for someone else as well.
 
Abject failure. If I had known pre-orders started at 1AM PT, I would have just stayed up. Now me and millions of my iPhone 4 coveting brethren are wreaking havoc on Apple and AT&T infrastructure. The closest I have gotten is almost being able to put it in my cart once and then it session expired. Aaargh.

Isn't cloud computing supposed to fix all this crap? :rolleyes:
 
Has Ticket Master ever gotten 100,000+ orders for a Celtics game at the same time?

I would think a lot of sports teams have to handle with huge demand on certain days tickets are released, and they manage. You may end up in a queue of some sort and you may get nothing if there is limited availability, but those sites get slammed every year and they manage.

Apple and AT&T had to know this was coming and had time to prepare.

They should only let X number of sessions onto their web site, period. If you get in, you should be able to order... if you can't get in you wait. This would work way better than having so many people get into the process only to have it fail.

Someone needs to teach both AT&T and Apple something about IT and customer service. This whole mystery around the white phone is BS... I love apple products but am getting quickly tired of the secrecy when its not necessary. Experiences like pre-ordering today can quickly turn customers against you... they need to be careful.
 
Don't worry, it won't. I got to checkout and it was the wrong address so I had to change my AT&T billing and start over.

but i am trying to change it from my att billing address to my shipping address which is in another state. i ordered through apple and it went through, so i am hoping that in a couple hours i can edit my order and change from att billing to my real shipping address. sorry if i am being confusing :p
 
I think Apples servers are fine. I'm able to get all the way to "checking eligibility", which is when it starts talking to AT&Ts servers, before it up and pukes.
After each and everytime AT&T servers always fail to hold up to their end of the bargain, why does Apple continue to trust them?
Its not like this is the first time AT&T has screwed up.

Still the same message when they try to check my eligibility for a new account. But the site seems faster.

How many sports teams have millions of customers order tickets from around the world?

They could put you in a queue like ticketmaster and tell you the wait is 60 minutes. Perhaps a more elegant solution, but you all would still be complaining.
 
I kept trying to log in only to get their "offline message" ... eventually I got this.. and I'm not constantly pounding the servers..

I got through using the iPhone App......and just got a confirmation on the order...

Glaring error is that it says I'm supposed to pay $699......I'm guessing it's because they could not verify my ATT eligibility.

I love that I am waiting to click everything as soon as the site will let me, yet I still get session expired due to inactivity. Makes me want to strangle whoever wrote that error message.
 
I did it as an upgrade. Selected my store. Seems like it went through, but it never asked for my email address and the confirmation page looks sorta barren. No email yet. Not sure if it actually went through.

Hey brian,

That is the same thing that happened to me. Didn't get any confirmation email. Though I've been trying again and have been getting the new screens (confirm phone, pick data plan) etc. So I think our first reservation attempt that appeared to be successful, wasn't successful. :(

Just gonna keep trying I guess.
 
How I got it to Work! Finally

Apple just released the iPhone app! And after dozens of times since 4 am EST I finally got it! I have not received my confirmation email yet. I do not know if anyone has said this before! Try it!
 
so what i want to know is if the pre orders are only going to be live on the 15th or should they continue for the next couple days?? or if i dont pre order today i want be able to get it shipped to my house?
 
i got through apple.com's process to where i checkout, but it says that iphone orders must be shipped to AT&T billing address.....i thought you could have it shipped anywhere?
