This is ****ed. I've been trying since 4:30 est.

Yeah seriously I've been at this since 1:00 am PST. The furthest I got was to the add to cart button, but then it would say oops we ****ed up. Such a waste of life, but am I going to stop hell no.
 
Finally got through on Apple... tried at 5:30am EST for a while... had to go to work so I got home for lunch and tried again for 20 minutes and it finally did work. I was using Internet Explorer and just thought might as well try Safari and it went through after a couple of times! Keep trying!
 
Solution

I posted this on a seperate thread but if you were able to get to your cart at any point in the day and then timed out or what-have-you, then odds are that your phone is still in the Cart and all you have to do is click Your Cart from the Store. That worked for me after hours of struggle.

According to ATT, their systems are down for the next 1.5 to 2.0 hours...

No way to determine eligibility even if you go directly into a store at the current time...

Brilliant time to "upgrade" your system. Goo dlordy, this is SOOOOO infuriating that htey could have not expected high volume and have to do an upgrade a couple of hours into this.

EPIC FAIL!
 
wow i had one in my cart from me trying at 1 in the morning i checked out in like 1 min

I got on to the apple site about 10 minutes after it went on and tried for about 40 minutes before switching to ATT and getting straight through.
 
the apple store errors have changed in the last ten minutes for me from the "could not process" to this "make a reservation at a retail store" page

maybe related to the AT&T upgrade?

I'm sure they're not REALLY upgrading. It's likely just a generic error message displayed during a system outage.
 
Yeah I woke up and kept refreshing the itunes store till I saw it was available for pre-order. Tried for over an hour--slept for two more hours. Trying again, and still nothing. Every once in a while I get all the way through entering in my account info, but mostly I get the error when I just tell them I want to replace on my existing account.

I did want a White. Maybe all this hoopla is telling me to wait.

I've had that screen off and on for hours. Now not even getting that far.
