Yes, this is their darkest moment. Darker even than when they were faced with bankruptcy and had to accept charity from their biggest rival.

This launch is different if you read my opening post. I dont remember thousands of bloggers and tv broadcasters making this big of a deal out of any iphone.

I just brought one of the most expensive phones in the planet, and within days hundreds of examples are coming out of this, its been a FEW days.

Hmmm... I've been here for a while, and I remember MANY MANY bloggers and posts complaining just about every release. I think Maps was way worse than this. Remember people practically dying cause they were driving off cliffs?

And as far as "hundreds" of examples.. I've only seen a handful... and most of those were obviously intentional, and I'm sure some of the ones that weren't so obvious, were intentional as well or just carelessness.

I haven't personally witnessed anyone with a bent phone, and I bought the 6 and couldn't be happier. So far the ONLY issue I've had with it is dropped wifi on 5ghz connections at home. And not even sure that's not a router issue, and not the phone.

No, the time the had record breaking sales was not their darkest hour. Jesus, some of you people are dramatic. How do you make it through a day?

.....

The iWatch is a prime example. Did they REALLY need a watch? How is it different? What does it bring to the table? Same thing with Maps. They're beautiful and all... but we had maps already. Didn't need another.

People pretty much said the same thing about the iPhone in 2007... the cellular phone was in existence for 20 years then.

95% of the iPhones users have not even heard about this bending. We forget that it is WE that are not normal and the exception by reading the cr^p in these forums.

Apple will do very nicely!

Unfortunately the TV media, at least in this area, has picked up the story. Just yesterday I had several usually-clueless-about-tech people come up to me and ask "Have you heard the story on the news that iPhones are getting bent??", and I just sigh.

Let's not get carried away here. Apple was at the brink of bankruptcy at one point and basically had to be bailed out by Microsoft. This is nowhere near that.

Every 2 years I remember this is happening. Antennagate. Yelloscreengate. Mapsgate (remember the morons driving to someone's farm or something stupid?), now Bendgate. Just another ******** issue that impacts small % of people but blown out of proportion.

There is a BIGGER issue here with the 8.0.1 update which fortunately was pulled before it can cause any real damage. But people love to focus on the stupid but more sensationalized stuff (i.e. Bendgate) just like how people love to follow who will punch Justin Bieber next as opposed to learning science or trying to solve world's problem.

..... And no please, since when did iphone 5's bend? Just because you pull 1 or 2 pictures out of the millions that got sold dont mean anything - I just tried to bend my iphone 5 10 minutes ago, it did not bend, if you want il put up a dam video of it on youtube right now to prove my point. Seriously, are you this clueless?

Some things never change...

No! Bendgate is real!

iPhone 5 Bendgate, what should I do?

Bent iPhone 5

iPhone 5 bent!

Bent iPhone 5

And there are a few more.. basically every year someone comes up with some inane complaint. Nothing new. People want publicity.

Most any consumer product will bend/break under stress. It's entirely possible that a flaw in the manufacturing process caused a certain number of the phones to exhibit structural weakness and bend too easily, but so far we've heard of a few reports of unintentional bending. (Also reported: it's possible to scratch the case and break the glass.)

Apparently, the iPhone is not indestructible.

Android fan here.

This is not Apple's darkest moment, but I do think that a lot of pro-apple people are perhaps not treating these launch-week issues as seriously as they should.

Two reasons:

1. The iphone is friggin expensive. The largest capacity 6+ is $995! For a phone! In an age where you can get a similarly featured smartphone (Moto E/Moto G) for less than 1/5th that price. If nothing else, the current issues are a massive customer service concern. Apple does have good will to burn, but if they do not keep their customers happy then they will reap the blowback 3-fold the next time one of their products doesn't meet expectations. Many of you already realize that there are people out there actively rooting for Apple to fall flat on its face.

2. This is not 2007 or even 2010 when the iphone had demonstrable advantages over competing devices. This is 2014 and the iphone has lost both its edge in hardware and software. There is a lot less leeway for putting out a mediocre (or even sub par) product. The fact that Apple sold 10 million phones in one weekend to people who had never held one tells me that their previous phones were very well regarded. A problem-ridden release right now won't affect their bottom line until later.

You tell me how you expect next year's mild hardware revised iphone 6s/6s+ will fare against a 2015 Nexus that has a 1440p screen, 3 GB RAM and the behemoth that is Google Android powering it?

The game is changing, albeit in degrees. Kids growing up today are growing up in an age where Samsung and Motorola are selling more powerful phones than Apple. That will very much be an issue when they are old enough to choose devices on their own (and not settle for what mom/dad buys them).

No, its not doom and gloom.... but it would behoove Apple and Co to get their @#$# together. Quickly. Its not a good thing to have to learn lessons (the hard way) that Samsung & friends already figured out 2 or 3 years ago.

nuff said!

When the 6 pluses are pulled up on shelves collecting dust because Apple can't sell them let me know. Then I'll consider what your fears are.

[Even used a Swype keyboard to type this ]

Apple just had the largest launch in its history.

It's sitting on top of its own mountain right now.

Dark moments?

Go check out Blackberry's recent launch.

The one most people did not even know happened.

I still have an original 5, yes is its vulnerable to scuffs, but thats a tiny issue - its not like its affecting the use. Beleaguered Apple is doomed!!
Not.
But a good lesson anyway not to be carried too much and become arrogant.

Not their darkest moment but they have made a lot of mistakes recently.

The iCloud situation, there was no 2 factor available on backup downloads until after the celeb nudes were leaked. The "find my iPhone" login system did not protect against brute force login attempts until after the celeb nude leak either.

Offering U2 Album to customers was great, shoving it in to peoples libraries wether they wanted it or not was a very stupid thing that has caused a lot of PR backlash.

iOS 8, is quite buggy for me. I'm having a lot of issues with it on my iPhone 5 and iPad Air. My iPhone 6 comes in about a week.

iPhone 6 Plus bending problem isn't so great.

iOS 8.0.1 was pulled and is really bad.

And if we look back at last year.. well the Retina MacBook Pro yellow screen problem is still an issue and even further back from that in 2012 we had the ghosting issue on the first model which some say is still an issue today.

Is Apple slipping? Yes most definitely. But I wouldn't say it's their darkest moment, not yet anyway, give them another 6 months to **** things up a bit more first.

Well they are still lining up at our local Apple store. Most of the younger people do not even watch the news. I still do not think this all will amount to anything in the end.

Glad I got a 6! Never even considered the Plus.

The darkest moment was when Steve Jobs died. There is not going to be a darkest moment for Apple than this one ever.

If you see it after some years of Jobs dead Apple keeps building great products and new products

The iphone 6 / + are the best smartphones ever.

It totally is. At least the darkest one I'm aware of.
Any other day I'd be proud to tell everyone that my favorite company is Apple, but in the recent week.... Not so much.
I mean- Bending issues? It's a freaking FEAST for crows (crows being Androiders). That's something never existed before and now when it exists, it first appeared on the flag device of the most innovative tech company in history (arguably).
The iOS 8 issue is not such a big deal because it will be fixed soon, but when all the shyt happens in the same time... It's not good for us.
Thank god I didn't intend to buy an iPhone 6/plus because I'm waiting for the next model (my iPhone 5 is perfect for me right now). By then they will fix the issue for sure.

Apple will always have "their darkest days" on new releases if you read all the reporting and blogs. I believe the darkest day was Steve Jobs passing. People are still lining up at stores every morning a week after release to get it, they set new sales records. They are fixing their issues that come along with any new release, and I do not believe the bending is one of those issues. Somebody posted the video on YouTube, the right reporter saw it and then many followed that lead. Before you know it, "bend gate" is born. When a few cases of people having the bending issue on the 5/5s's, it didn't blow out of proportion like this because nobody posted the video.

If you like IOS, and you like the products, if you are enjoying your phone for the most part, don't make it your Darkest day, just enjoy it. If it's that bad for you, just return it.

I put the blame squarely on the mainstream media for this and most of the nonsense they spew out daily. If I was an alien watching the Earth news I would conclude that they are a Shallow, Narcissistic, Violent, Sadistic, Self harming bunch of whiners and then 180 my ship and hit the warp drive button.

Good gawd. The drama kings are out in full force.

Out of all the so-called "issues" that make this such a dark moment, the only legitimate one is the botched 8.0.1 update. Apple rightfully deserves to take a PR beating over that one. No excuses.

But, the company's darkest moment? If you really believe that, then you know nothing about the company's history or you're just basking in hyperbole.

1997 was a dark moment. The company was losing money hand over fist, rumors ran wild over Apple as a takeover target, long time Mac developers were jumping ship over to Windows, and Apple had to make a deal with their #1 competitor to ensure the company's survival.

BTW, the Microsoft deal had little to do with the cash infusion; Apple still had billions in cash and MS only forked over ~$130 million. The deal was that MS would agree to timely updates of Office and keep the application on the market, and make an investment in Apple. In return, Apple would drop the Quick Time lawsuit, and install IE as the default browser. Keep in mind that at that time, Bill Gates was threatening to discontinue Office for the Mac if Apple pursued its QuickTime lawsuit, and that move would have killed the Mac because of Office's dominance at that time. The MS investment was more of a PR move to prove to users that Apple was not about to shut its doors.

1985 was a dark moment. After an initial burst after introduction, Mac sales were in decline, the Lisa and Apple III bombed, and Jobs left the company. The Mac wouldn't start to find its footing until 1986 when the Mac Plus came out, and desktop publishing started to take off in a big way.

2014? Hardly a ripple by comparison.

Apple's history began in the 20th century. Might want to brush up on it before calling anything that happened in the past few months Apple's "darkest moment."

And the crowing by "Androiders" is nothing compared to the abuse that Apple used to routinely take from the PC/Windows crowd, especially in the days after Windows95's debut and the failed Mac OS licensing program.

There is always a lot of drama surrounding Apple's problems when other company's problems do not get that much media even from their own users.

Apple will break records with iPhone 6 sales, and will break records again with iWatch and with iPhone 6S and 7 and so on... because let's be honest; Darkest Moment is what Nokia and Blackberry are experiencing... this is just a few clouds on a sunny Sunday...

they just sold 10M iphones, any other phone co wishes they had such dark moments.

apple is an evil empire just like almost all huge corps. they are making so much money they dont give a damn about individual customer satisfaction. i hope it will be their eventual downfall.

companies like amazon, costco, nordstrom that take the viewpoint that customer is always right are the ones i hope survive and prosper.
