I have my doubts about this claim and is simple fat news to fill in space for friday

Canada has an iTV news channel and nothing coming outta this?
That means UK should be going after iTV in Canada as well, when iTV in Canada has been around a very, very long time.

Who's infringing who?
Maybe UK should shut the F*%^ up Canada iTV may just come after them for using iTV name after Canada established it loooong ago.

Shuv that up your a** UK

GO CANADA

Grow up

Imho If Apple are going to put the Word TV to any of its products it should atleast have a ****in TV Tuner inside.

and LOL at the fool who said buy ITV

Or maybe you need to understand copyright and trademark law? A copyright isn't international by default, nor are trademarks, they need applying for internationally if that is a companys intention.

ITV isn't small fry, it produces britain's got talent and x-factor who wants to be a millionaire and sells most of it's concepts across the world - America's Got Talent, American Idol and soon to be X Factor in the US just for a few examples. It's the UK home of Simon Cowell and a pretty powerful corporation in the UK with an audience of around 40 million. It's not "some company".

Also learn the difference between a country and a company- it's not the "UK" who are reportedly "furious" (although I doubt the story given it's source) it's a corporation based in the UK.

You remind me of those Americans who need it pointing out to them that BP isn't a "british" company either - 70% of it's governing body and assets are from the US, with far less than the remaining 30% from the UK. (Oh, And that oil rig was owned by another, non UK company and staffed by yet another non UK company. UK Company opinion != UK Population opinion.

Stick that up your a**e, Canada.

They'll likely rename it, removing the TV in the same format as their other products: iSomething. Maybe even further from iVideo if it is basically a box for the TV running iOS.

am I right in thinking when Mac OS X 10.2 came out in the UK it couldn't be branded Jaguar, because of the Jaguar car maker, I'm sure I read that somewhere so it was just called on UK boxes Mac OS X V10.2

I also think that ITV has ruined its reputation years back by dumbing down the audiences :p. Corrie has lost its flare. The Bill is good, but its being axed :O

and like everything the daily mirror writes it will be a about 110% exaggerated

I half jokingly questioned if ITV would have any problem with iTV in the previous rumor this week. I would have thought that Apple had checked with ITV first.

bear in mind this was taken from the mirror. Since when did they publish facts? I'd like to see this verified by other papers

Don't forget this is the paper that forged photographs of UK soldiers beating up Iraqi POWs to assist a story. I wouldn't give this report any credence at all.

Also how the hell is is possible to enforce a global ban on a trademark that exists only in the UK. If that were possible Apple could simply obtain the iTV trademark in the US and any other country where it doesn't already exist and simply try to counter ban ITV using that trademark globally.

ITV is a horrible, sub tabloid-quality channel. They should be honoured to have any affiliation with Apple.

I know a lot of people who would disagree with you - yes there is "trash" tv, but there is also one of the world's longest running soap operas and some great documentaries and dramas, incredible dramas from Poirot to Inspector Morse, and also the closest the UK gets to independent news.

Typical Mirror sensationalist reporting, I suspect there may be a few other countries ITV may want to sue in if the feel they can, but globally is nonsense.

Who is suggesting a worldwide ban on a UK trademark? ITV is also a held trademark in the US and Canada, by two different firms...

As trades CAN be international under certain fields, this would directly affect this as an infringement (unless agreements were made).

Its not about growing up, im well educated in this area Ive personally dealt with all this before, for the UK company to come out with something as petty as this it could potentially open the doors for Canada's iTV to break agreements and get sole name (International Trade Name).

UK company could be biting into a big area that goes internationally and end up losing their shirts.

Think for a sec, if you owned iTV before another company (internationally) and the younger company opens its brewhaa of lawyers for this wouldn't you want to make sure YOUR trade name is not jeopardized?

UK thinks they own everything and everyone, iTV Canada will sit back and watch then strike just as UK gets deep into this and the costs will mount so high the UK company will have to negotiate.

GOOD LUCK... Lets hope these bastards can swim with the BIG boys.

Ha! As if anything ITV ever produced was gold dust! Dross, more like. ITV are absolute masters at lowbrow, knuckle-dragging tabloid TV and very little else.

Like:

A Touch of Frost
Hornblower
Inspector Morse
Poirot
Doc Martin
Foyle's War
Lewis
Sharpe
Wycliffe

and so on.

Yes, they do a lot of the drossy reality shows, but they also do make quality programming (or commission it, depending on the show in question). You may not like some of their drama shows, but that doesn't mean they aren't well made.

And yes, ITV would have spoken to their lawyers even though this is only a rumour, and they have probably spoken to them since the Apple TV was launched, just bearing in mind the possibility that the device may be re-named at some point to match the other 'i' devices.

The story in the Daily Mirror is, no doubt, completely over-played and nothing like what is really happening within ITV itself.

I mostly watch BBC now & sometimes the odd channel four documentary on the main channels

The Jaguar thing is untrue, urban myth.

Since when did the UK say anything about the matter? It was one man. Not even an official statement from a company based in the UK. Otherwise, your post is totally correct (just in case that is not clear, i mean you are so far wrong you may as well be from Canada. Oh wait......).

And its Shove, not "Shuv"

What if SJ were to release it under the name iTV everywhere but the UK.

"No iTV for you until ITV lightens up."

put public pressure on ITV..

Yeah, it will cause riots all over England with angry brits eager to waste their money in this piece of crap that, if the rumor is true, can't even handle proper HD.

Just rename it iCantDoFullHD and be done with it.

It was a childish post that is the reason for my comment.

The Jaguar thing is untrue, urban myth.

this is from wikipedia, although wiki can easily be edited

"Mac OS X v10.2 was never officially referred to as Jaguar in the United Kingdom due to an agreement with the car manufacturer Jaguar[citation needed], although boxes and CDs still bore the Jaguar-fur logo."

You do all realise that this is the Mirror and very likely to be made up or at the very (and unlikely) best based on someone phoning ITV and asking "are you angry about this?"

How many large companies start spending money on lawyers based on unsubstantiated *rumours*

Apple using iTV would probably bring more brand recognition and help that ****** TV channel more than anything they could ever come up with. They should be happy people might assume Apple's iTV and their iTV are the same thing or are related.
