As I stated before, people are going to get what they want. And if it scratches anywhere near as much as the 3gs or 4, trust me, some folks will be angry...EVEN IF you put in a case. Why? Because it will probably be scratched right out of the box. That's not "aging"...that doesn't make the phone have more character.

I don't recall seeing too many angry iPhone 3GS or 4 owners on this forum.

Skins will not protect your phone from drops and stuff WILL eventually make their way inside your case and scratch the JB iPhone 7.

If you don't care about scratches and love the JB, go for it! It looks beautiful! If you care about scratches then do NOT buy the JB iPhone 7 because it will eventually scratch. Yes, all phones are prone to scatches but the Jet Black iPhone 7 is more prone to damage.
Back when I was crazy (or crazier) I put a skin and a case in my 3GS. The phone was mint... for the guy I sold it to lmao.

It's all about how the light ~refracts~ on the scratch that makes it much more noticable on the scratches/marring on JB.

Re: the other comment on the 3/4 iphone black, it's been SOOO long but if memory recalls, while gloss black in color, the back also had a glass back to it

I did just change my order from Jet-black to matte-black! Deliveriy date 28 oct now!

I'm to anal about scratching things and **** and I will sell it next year for iphone 8.
But the jet-black do look far superior!

I need to get past my anal retention and just use my phone without a case. I'll eventually have the phone replaced for a mint one at the apple store before I sell it off anyway.

It funny how people are talking about the matte showing fingerprints on the back of the device, What is it supposed to show?! its a black device, stop making excusing for ordering that scratch magnet of JB. People kill me lol.

Every one of the colors is going to scratch. None more than another.

The issue is that the Jet Black, because of its high polish, will SHOW those scratches more so than the others.
Just read this entire thread and this is, by far, the worst post. Just horrible advice, completely untrue and a complete misunderstanding of what polish even is.

Apple actually never said it was easier to scratch:

"The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use,"

Either way, the result is the same: a more scuffed up looking phone.

Thanks for the correction! But yes, the JB will easily look worse overtime than the black due to the high shine showing scratches much more easily.

Wrong, JB scratches much easier.

umm, quit saying stuff you have no clue about. There is already proof that it scratches much easier. It is not made
with the same process.

I think a few people here owe mikegoldnj an apology. He only reiterated what Apple stated. This thread is getting ridiculously trivial. We must be going crazy waiting for our phones.

Matte black will likely show a different color being aluminum like a scratched up slate iPhone 5. That's uglier to me. Scratches should have SAME COLOR underneath.

the finish won't change over this next year. just look at the iPhone 5 black issues. they stuck.

I still have my i5 slate/black without any scratches on it. Was in a case the whole time that I used it. It never got scratched within the case. If you keep a good case on it, it should be fine. Just took these pics

That Vietnamese video of side by side Jet Black's really shows the fingerprints.Wow!!

Honestly, its not only full of fingerprints, it looks kinda gross. Like in a "i dont even want to touch that thing" gross. I feel sorry for those who ordered the JB. Just wait until you see them in the apple stores with hundreds of greasy fingers touching them every day..plus the scratches. Such a bad idea really. But hey, it looks great in promo videos and they get to go on about some fancy new metal processing procedure that nobody understands nor care about.

If you guys are that worried / concerned about scratches how do you guys deal with other things that get wear and tear? Cars, appliances, clothes, etc all get wear and tear.

If they are really expensive and premium - as is an iPhone - i treat them as carefully as i possibly can to maintain their original looks. I dont consider my iPhone a "wear and tear" product as I do a 5 dollar T-shirt.

But! Rotational 3D polishing and an anodisation process that creates a protective oxide layer and the single component dye that is absorbed through a capillary effect to ensure maximum saturation and finally the magnetised ultra fine iron particle bath!

How does Johnny make this **** up :D

Wouldn't it kinda suck if Apple releases the all-white iPhone 7 next year like say March? Or even by September when iPhone 8 is released? Other companies do that all the time. Release a different color after a few months. I remember the white Nexus 4 and 5 coming out later. Samsung never released a white S7 edge in the States.

Since the antenna lines are also white, it would be hidden because the silver, gray, and gold rear shows it. A white front panel should be less distracting if it had some black borders around it similar to how HTC did with the M7 and LG did with the G3 series...

I had that phone. It was truly the worst phone I've ever owned, and I've had them all- Palm, Nextel, Nokia, Samsung, etc. It was a total piece of garbage. Slow as heck, terrible battery life and overheated constantly. I hear the G4 and G5 aren't much better. LG just makes terrible phones.

Those pics just shows the back. The issue with the 5's was the chambered sides. I'm running caseless since iPhone 4. If i ran the jet black caseless for a year i wouldn't expect anything but a big scratchy mess even if i didn't drop it.

I'm guessing scratches will appear no matter what, but it depends how you look after it as well, i plan on using a clear case which arrived this morning, however it will probably pick up a couple of scratches, that i can deal with, it's when the entire back of the phone is covered in them.
