No idea mate. As soon as I saw the video I knew jet black was the one for me so it works! Scratches or not!

Me too :D I love the fact you can't really tell where the screen and case join. Bring on the scratches...

Those pics just shows the back. The issue with the 5's was the chambered sides. I'm running caseless since iPhone 4. If i ran the jet black caseless for a year i wouldn't expect anything but a big scratchy mess even if i didn't drop it.

Scratch free on front and sides too

I agree. The chamfered edges didn't turn out to be a real issue. Sure if you took a knife to them or you got one out of the box that had a bad finish from assembly, but real world usage didn't hurt the 5's edges.

I won't pretend like this decision is easy for me, but the funny thing is that both blacks look fantastic and both satisfy what many of us were hoping for. We really can't go wrong here. Also, if you guys are like me, I often obsess over a decision like this, doubt for a month or so whether I made the right decision, and then forget it entirely and enjoy what I have.

There is a 256 GB matte black phone waiting for me at the Verizon store, so I think I'll probably end up getting it and calling it a day. Or maybe not....

are those white spots right over the sim card not scratches? on the upper edge where the glass meets. Anyway, every black phone I've seen out of a case had issues with the chamber.

It's just glare or dust spots. It was hard to get a good pic with our light up above. I'm serious that there aren't any scratches from being in a case.

Can someone translate and provide a summary of his thoughts?

Pretty much sums up every other video about the iPhone. Nothing new. He basically talks about it being a smudge magnet, new button, seamless antenna lines, protruding camera, and logo that is almost hidden in the jet black color way.

The jet black is beautiful enough to be worth the extra wipes / polishing every once in a while. Looking forward to mine.

Until it slips out your hand because it is so slippery.

Code:
The single most frequent question I’ve been asked since the event is whether the jet black iPhone is slippery. It’s not. Again, much like the old 3G and 3GS iPhones, the glossy rear surface has a very pleasant tackiness — certainly not sticky, but grippy. Based on my (admittedly limited) time in the hands-on area, I’d call it the least slippery iPhone Apple has ever made.

The black and Jet Black display phones at the Apple Store...handled by 100s of people today, plunked down on the tables, had one thing in common, tons of fingerprints.

Know what neither had? Scratches.

Yeah, those Jet Blacks scratch just by looking at them.

It's really not slippery. My iPhone 6 is MUCH more slippery than my JB 7. I was surprised at how grippy it is.

You know, I may eat my statement, but I don't think it's going to end up a huge deal. In fact, this picture:

I think the scratches are on the antenna band. It's really hard to distinguish when you look at the phone, but when you touch it, you can feel the texture change. The antenna band feels rubbery. I think I see the lightning connector in the bottom of this picture and if that's true, then that location on the phone is the rubber antenna band. I may be completely wrong, and the scratches do seem to go up higher than the band by a tiny bit, but that's my thought right now.

Wow.. I knew it would scratch a little easer... but just from wiping it off??? I can't cancel mine because it's preparing to ship... but I think I'm going to return it to the Apple Store and get matt black when it gets here.

It will probably get scratched just from being in a case

Probably a particle on the cloth. But surface scuffs are unavoidable if you constantly wipe it. There's not many things with a mirror like polish that isn't easily scuffed. Even with the scuffs I think it'll look fine from arms distance unless you pocket your phone with keys, nails, or razor blades. I suppose if you are obsessed with keeping a mint phone then this will not be the color way for you.

I kind of wish I would have ordered matt.. I think I like it a bit better... I might just end up keeping it though... I don't want to wait another month... I live right by an Apple Store so maybe I'll get lucky... they are both nice though... even the silver white looks nice with the new antenna lines.

I think the fine scratches on the back are just like the ones you get on the screen. You only see them if you're looking for them and shining the light just right. I honestly think it's a non-issue.

The look of the Jet Black is unparalleled greatness. I know that's subjective though.

The grippiness, however, is much superior to the 6s I had and the other finishes of the 7. Holding one you can immediately tell that it doesn't slide out of your hand nearly as easily as the others.

I honestly think the OCD crowd is missing out. The Jet Black iPhone 7 is the best looking phone I've ever used and it performs like a champ.
