Lol. Apple is in complete turmoil. All of their greatest talent are fleeing the company in droves. Never a great sign of things to come. I think we are living “peak” Apple right now. Worrying things to come.

Every time someone leaves a company, there are those who give a pat on the back and there are those who are the backstabbers. Mr. Iovine is in the business to have success and to make money, like everybody else. He may have not intended to stay and or stay until he got paid and then move on to new ventiures or retire and enjoy the fruit of his labor. If so, so what! Let him move on and move on in peace.

The Beats purchase was the biggest waste of $3,000,000,000 ever. Wasn’t Iovines influence the main reason for the deal? Now they’re just stuck with a load of middling accessories taking up space in their stores.

Yeah and a streaming service that gained 30 million subscribers in 2 years fully cementing themselves as a key player in streaming.....what a waste , huh?

The core product design team has been largely the same for about 20 years. Not to mention Apple has probably the best chip design team in the industry. One person leaving is a drove? Do you have any idea what you’re talking about ?

Back on topic, Iovine saw a financial opportunity and cashed in, as anyone here would. I personally don't care for AM, but trashing Jimmy coz you have gripes with one of Apple's services is short-sighted and ignores his lifelong achievements.

He was the public face of Apple Music, so his time at Apple should be graded on whether AM was a good product or not, not his accomplishments in the industry 20-30 years ago. Did he make some exclusives happen for Apple? Maybe, who knows. But the Apple Music music experience does not reflect his alleged passion for it.

I would leave, you are working for Tim Cook. The man is taking Apple nowhere. Dongles, lame hardware, and android software is surpassing iOS.

OSX is the only good thing at Apple these days.

Do you? Apple pre-installs Apple Music on all phones sold, and has only 30 million users in two years. It’s going nowhere. Spotify has double+ the users and their rate of growth is eclipsing Apple Music and will continue to do so - their offerings are fewer and their interface is trash.

Many more execs have left or sold stock in recent years, it’s not just Jimmy.

Don’t worry, by year’s end or start of 2019 Tim Cook will no longer be helming Apple.

You’re a true Apple bear if you think this guy makes a .0001% difference. You also predicted Cook will be fired for the battery issues.

Can’t wait to see what you overreact to next while ignoring all facts.

So they paid 3B for 30M subscribers? I think Spotify has 70 million and they didn't spend 3B

OMG, hardware has become so lame, i'll give you some examples. Macbook - underpowered with one port, one port! Macbook pro - over priced and USC-c only? how many dongles have you gotten for your over priced laptop.. and how many times have you forgotten those dongles when you need them. Mac Pro - need I say more? Mac Mini - cough cough

Now let's talk about Apple Watch. It's not bad, but not steller, personally I was shocked that the 10k model was discontinued.... ;)

And Iphones/Ipads - are good, I find iOS so limiting, and Siri is the best joke ever! Qi charging that is 5 years behind the rest of the industry is sad.

Air Pods - those were well done. I give it to those engineers, I was very impressed with them. However, I have Bose as I like to have several devices connected at the same time. Something they can't do and a must need feature for me.

Time Capsules - It's become it's own time capsule with ancient hardware.

Home Pod - They couldn't match google home's integration to the web, so they released a half ass eco and made some marking BS about acoustics.

Apple TV - Why wouldn't you get a roku and have 10 times more. Apple TV remote is junk. Looks nice, but just junk.

While Apple's mobile devices are blazing fast (ignoring the whole battery thing), I just can't remember when I have been so disappointed with Apple's hardware. To each their own, but if Tim Cook retired and craig federighi took over, I would be happy.

The Beats acquisition was one of the strangest, expensive, and pointless mistakes Apple has ever made. Apple Music, at least as far as the app goes, is a total disaster. The fantastic music/iPod app and interface from the original iPhone was the best iteration of music management from Apple on the iPhone and it has done nothing but declined ever since. The whole thing should be thrown out and reworked to have the usability of the older versions pre-beats. Steve Jobs loved music; you can see it in his presentations. Hacks like Eddy Cue have no passion for this at all.

First Bozoma Saint John, then Jimmy, now hopefully Dr Dre is next. Time to get rid of all the Beats clowns.

You don't understand how the music industry operates with comments like that. iTunes and Apple Music is merely a distribution platform - a good one at that but that's all it is. I've worked in it all of my life and Jimmy's a good guy! He's respected! People listen to him and there's not many out there that can command that!

Your comment about Jimmy is what I agree with. Your original post was in regards to MR readers not understanding what He is to the industry.

And yes I do understand a bit about the industry.
[doublepost=1515122958][/doublepost]
does this mean AM will recommend less ghetto/hippop/rap music from now on? MIRACLE!!!!

With comments like this I wonder if you’ve had a decent upbringing.

So long, Iodine! Take Dre and Beats with you as you exit.

Did any of these acquisitions do anything positive for the company?!?

True but 4 years for a music guy is a lifetime - he probably wants to put his experience to new challenges. He's probably bored to tears of the streaming industry - it's pretty shallow in't it.

More that working with Eddy Cue and Robert Kondrk (both of whom know nothing about music or the music industry) and watching them systematically dismantle what was an excellent Beats Music product is unbearable for someone with his talent and experience. He'll probably just start something better, something else. Again.

Well, he's 64. "Passion" is corporate speak for "vest my options" :)
Seriously though, you're faulting the guy's career for what he did in the last 4 years?
Sure, most of us do our best work in our younger years, but his accomplishments range up to way more recent times than what your put-down suggests.

Most of his AM work was in the background, negotiations with artists & labels. I doubt he's sitting much at his desk, working the UI design for AM, nor for Beats music. it's a team effort embedded in large corporate setting. How shallow is your thinking ? He did his part for providing Apple with a streaming service to compete with Spotify and they've achieved 50% of their subscriber numbers in 25% of the time. That's a success in anyone's book.

Just because you don't like AM, doesn't mean J.I. failed. At least 30million people disagree with you.

Apple Music?

i mean, that's exactly the reason for the acquisition of Beats.. you see that, right?
you don't think that's positive for the company or user experience?

Great! He was not a good fit or a good look.
Not sure where all the vitriol on here towards Jimmy I is coming from. Apple Music under him reportedly did very well.

"Under Iovine's leadership, Apple music has seen strong growth since its debut, with the service now boasting more than 30 million subscribers."

Please explain why this energetic, well-connected industry powerhouse wasn't a good fit, and also where looks enter the picture. Also in reply to others, leaving before the stock you acquired when joining vests, would be dumb beyond words. No one in their right mind does that, and Jimmy has earned those RSUs.

Yeah execs sell stock to ya know...get money. Speaking of which .....Spotify has yet to turn a profit after 10+ years. Sure they have a great base and a quality product. But a company can’t go on losing money every year without major repercussions. Not to mention their 1.6 billion lawsuit they have to deal with. Meanwhile Apple has loads of cash and also pays artists about 40 percent more in royalties per stream. But it’s going nowhere , you’re right.

An almost trillion dollar company....but no one at Apple knows what they’re doing. Some of you guys are downright hilarious.

Not the worst thing. After everything I've seen and read about him, he seems like the guy who has always been in the right place at the right time. He was never really talented, but just happened to be able to spin enough BS that someone with real talent actually bought into it.

BS or not, he still is a force in the industry. Can't take that away from him.

Phew.....after reading all that....just go use other products if you think Apples are garbage.

Tim Cook is going nowhere since he’s I don’t know ....helped quadruple apple’s stock price since 2011 and bring in hundreds of billions addition in revenue. But yeah they’re doomed.

I don’t understand the hate. His résumé is quite astounding.
I agreed with you. After watching the Defiant Ones doc, my respect for him grew quite a bit as music producer. I don't hate the guy but he sometimes can be seen as very arrogant.
Working for Apple, honestly I think he failed or did not contribute so much. Apple Music is no big deal and at this point I am not sure he will be missed. Either way, both Apple and Jimmy are doing just fine.

Apple Music?

I suppose you’re right. They totally needed to spend $3 billion dollars on Dre to create Apple Music. My bad.

Bahaha!
