Your opinion.

I have no interest in any sort of Apple related TV content. Lets leave that to the experts.
As it stands iTunes / Apple music is still a mess, navigating that soft is a pain in the ass.

I don't think Apple will ever lead this category as there are so many other offers that do a decent job.

Apple needs to focus on creating great electronics... this is where they have fallen behind. I don't need everything to constantly be thinner.
Really, they do need to focus on the hardware and software if they want to continue to sell their services. It was Amazon Echo's great hardware and performance that enticed our family to get a family subscription to Spotify. I had dropped Spotify over a year ago and had been trying to decide between Google Play Music and Apple Music. Apple Music hasn't been running well on my Android devices lately.

Once upon a time, Siri running in tandem with Apple Music would be killer for me but...:(:(...

...Siri seems to barely work anymore. I've been a fan of Siri for years even when everyone was saying how badly Siri worked for them. I learned to speak very clearly in unaccented English, in a clear tone with very precise word choice for a previous robotics hobby, yet I can not get Siri to understand half of my commands and queries any more. I find myself having to shout at her, too. Yet Google Assistant on my iPhone works fine. Go figure.

Siri insists "sentient" is "sen teenth"...what the hell, that's not even a word, yet she picks it over "sentient" every time. I can't get a simple dictionary definition because she's incapable of recognizing that word. Alexa had some tribute with it, too. Google Allo Assistant rarely has a problem with any queries I have thrown at it so far, even an obscure inquiry about the works of author Esther Averill.

So between Amazon and Google voice controlled AI working so much better and tied with hardware and services that do not belong to Apple, Apple is stepping out on thin ice.

Ping written all over it.....

Apple needs to stay away from media other than music delivery. Other companies were there first and are handling it a LOT better than Apple could ever imagine. Apple has no chance to put a dent into Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. The only way they may be able to make headway is in a TV service since nobody got it right, yet. The pricing isn't advantageous over a cable subscription sans cable box fees, and the delivery isn't as rock solid as it should be.

You might be right. Then again, there were plenty of people who said the same sort of thing about Apple getting into the phone business just a decade ago. Nokia and Blackberry were there first and were handling it a LOT better than Apple could ever imagine. Right?

Apple certainly doesn't have a 100% success rate, but since the beginning, they have entered markets where a thing already existed, and the category dominated by others. Then Apple introduced their version, with a twist, that created a whole new industry standard. The mac had no chance against the more serious IBM computers. The iPhone had no chance against Nokia or the more serious Blackberry. The iPad had no chance because tablets had already failed, and who would want a giant phone anyway? The Apple Watch was doomed because nobody wears watches anymore and Fitbit already had the pedometer market with a much cheaper product.

So who knows what Apple is really planning as far as creating video content is concerned, but Apple's success has pretty much all been them doing things people said they had no business doing.

Oh gosh please, please, please stop.

Whilst the Mac line-up is suffering, operating systems being severely neglected, AirPod stock is non-existent, etc...

Their sights are targeted at Carpool Karaoke, developers version of X-Factor with Gweneth Platrow, and whatever other loads of junk entertainment these guys are Cooking up to conform to Emoji culture to stay "hip"...

(Also their failed car project, can't wait, uh & Siri in a living room box!)

Steve's legacy everybody, right here.

In fairness, Iovine's work has nothing to do with hardware and only a loosely related to software, in that they need to knock up an app to provide it. What you are suggesting is that Iovine does literally nothing in the hope that the Mac team do more work?

Also operating systems being severely neglected? Come on bro. The update schedule is more aggressive now than it was pre-Lion and in some ways that might be the issue

Makes complete sense and in a few years i expect to see Apple Media, rather than Apple music and we get access to all the video content on iTunes as well.

Amazon do it already, not sure on Googles offering, but im sure someone like Netflix has looked at Spotify and Pandora with an intention to buy them out...although very hard to estimate their value

If Tim Cook feels Apple needs to do this here's an idea: put all of Apple's content business into an arms length subsidiary, locate it in LA and let Eddy Cue run it. Make the content available on all platforms. Then bring in someone really good at an SVP level to take over iCloud, Siri, Maps etc. if Apple is going to get into content it can't be half-assed and Eddy Cue can't run that along with everything else on his plate.

You should bring that up at the next Executive Vice Presidents meeting.

I don't see the appeal of exclusive shows at all. Can't I just choose one music service, and one film service and watch whatever i want? For a fee, of course!

Also, Apple needs to make Apple Music less **** before they start with other media. And fix their movie rental service, so many times I've passed watching a movie altogether when they wanted to sell it to me for £7.99, when I'd happily rent it for £4.99. Am I really a fossil?

I wonder if they realize there are people like me who pay for Spotify each month and choose it over Apple Music because the interface is so much more intuitive. In fact, the interface of Spotify (on the Mac where I use it mostly) is much like iTunes used to be.

There is a lot of pressure for Apple to keep expanding by entering and dominating new markets. But they were expanding when they were just improving the Mac, for example. The fact that apps that used to be really good on the Mac no longer are is a different problem than the ones shareholders see, which is that they keep needing to do new things. But if they do new things the way they've been treating old things, those new things won't be successful either.

The reason I don't use Apple Music has nothing to do with it being "another basic streaming service" or doesn't have James Corden or Dr. Dre TV shows. It's that the software, to borrow a phrase, "just has no taste."

No it's not intuitive or like the old iTunes. In fact, it's junk. You use Spotify to search for artists you know, connect with your friends playlists and create new metalists. That's it. Apple Music is trying to do `too much' but it isn't a bag of hurt technologically like Spotify.

These convergences of video and music that Iovine wants is ultimately a stop gap. And when it begins to unravel he'll resign.

They'll be singing a different tune once the new file system is defacto standard.

Then again, there were plenty of people who said the same sort of thing about Apple getting into the phone business just a decade ago.

...but then Apple came up with a game-changing phone design. It may not have been the first smartphone but it dragged smartphones out of a niche and into the mainstream. Apple at the time were really, really good at UI design.

This time, what game are you gonna change? Netflix and Amazon are already doing well, with a growing catalog of "original*" content, so Apple are gonna be Johnny-come-lately. What are they going to bring to the party? A better UI? Maybe - Amazon's and Netflix's UIs are nothing to be proud of, especially on my FireTV, but what have Apple done in the last 5 years to show that they've still "got it" when it comes to UI design? Maps? Apple Music? iCloud?

Also, Netflix's original content is really, really good and they've developed a reputation for not interfering creatively. Yet to dive in to Amazon's "own" stuff but it looks like similar quality. Main problem is the poor/patchy coverage of movies and other series (e.g. "watch Big Movie Franchise III for free on Prime, parts I and II not available..." or "whoops, that series you were half-way through just got pulled for licensing reasons") I guess this is because of the traditional studios being silly with licensing & is probably why they're concentrating on original stuff.

(*where "original" is a mixture of actually commissioned by Netflix/Amazon and "exclusive to Netflix in your region")

Not saying that making original content is not good for Apple, but don't falter at a streaming music service by trying to throw a bunch of other kinds of content at it like TV or Movies and hope it sticks.

Apple Music = Music, period. iTunes became an amalgamation of a bunch of different content that doesn't really fit into the original purpose of iTunes, to distribute and manage music. Now Apple wants to plug up Apple Music by making it offer non music content. And then what, Apple will have both iTunes and Apple Music that offers similar content under different profiteering strategies?!

Apple seriously needs to clean house, get some new blood into their marketing and product strategy team and end this stupidity of creating a product that morphs into something random and lacking because they failed to understand what customers wanted in the first place and their competition has succeed in other areas. And come up with some branding that isn't narrow minded and vapid.

Tim, Jimmy, Phil, all need to be fired by the board, they all lack vision and are ****ing up this company royally.

This is different from hardware though.

or just BUY NETFLIX.

With car karaoke and Planet of the Apps reality TV in the pipeline I'd rather Netflix owned Netflix- they aren't spreading themselves too thin, improve their existing service and actually know what they are doing in their chosen market.

Apple you make computers !!! Or used to.
You have massive egos in the company , with no one regining them in. The Beats guys could care less about apple, they are just expanding their influence and personal status.
Forget pop culture , worry about the culture within apple. You are moving away from engineers to too cool for school crowd.
While I'm desperately hoping I'm just not patient enough and great things are on their way down that famous pipeline, I'm getting just a little uneasy about Apple exclusively following the money trail lately under Cook et al. Or are they slowly becoming a rudderless entity floating in a sea of confusion and indecision?

While they appear to be striving to be number One in innovation in all of their pursued areas of interest, the reality currently has them trailing in certain areas. What happened to the mantra of doing a select few things really well?

All I want is a great computer with the latest components and connectivity options, that just works without too many hiccups with the integrated software and applications, but I feel that at the rate Apple is innovating in that arena lately (or even merely updating current lines like the MacPro, Mini or even their Airport routers), sometime in the future I may have to sadly look for my computing needs elsewhere.

Letting the above mentioned lines languish, literally for years, reinforces my belief that great computing experiences are no longer at the top of Apple's priorities, or even in their mission statement, but have given way to maximizing ROI for the shareholders ahead of all else, which is a definite departure from the 'Steve' years, and without doubt a recipe for long-term decline.

That would be a sad future for a once great company.

Amen to your Siri observations.
