For me it depends on the DAC and sound quality and storage. I really don't concern myself with the processor, screen resolution etc. at this point as it would be my gym device and because I already have a 6 Plus.

I am just using a cheap android phone for my gym music, to have something on the cheap for Apple Music would be great.

You could just wait for the Android Apple Music app.

So where are the new iPods? If they were getting updated today, wouldn't they already be out? Is it going to be August 14th?

Give it time, it's still quite early in California. And the calendar said Tuesday 14th, and the next Tuesday 14th after today is on June 2016

If anything were coming today, it would have already happened 2-3 hours ago. The only time Apple updates the store with a new product later in the day is when they have an event occurring, which obviously isn't the case here.

No, not necessarily. When the Retina iMac was announced, the store page didn't go down; it just appeared as an option on the iMac page. BTW, thanks to another member for reminding me of this.

Yes that is true, but that also happened before 6:00 AM PT that morning back in May too. I stand by what I said, nothing is coming today.

Edit: Attached a pic of the tweet from Mac Rumors with the announcement from that morning. Notice the time stamp at the bottom (Central Time).

Yup. Don't think it's happening today folks. Guess that theory about July 14th was wrong. I had my doubts. iPods are usually updated in September along with the iPhone....or at least they USED to be. Lol. It's been 3 years since the last one.

With all the buzz & chatter around iPod updates, I truly think it's still gonna happen. But probably not until September.

In a way, I'm glad. I think the longer the wait, the more likely the update will be bigger. A couple months ago the rumor was that a 4.7" and/or 5.5" iPod touch was coming along with better camera & faster processor.

Perhaps that's back on the table now.

Oh well. Was fun thinking today was the day. Looks like we gotta wait.

iPods are dead - they are so last decade. The ipt5 was the last hurrah and even it was outdated when launched in Fall 2012.

Saying that, along with all my android devices, I still have an iPod Shuffle from 2011 - it's been effectively orphaned with the same 242 songs since I ditched PCs in 2013. But I love it for its form factor.

Perhaps it is now time for the mods to combine either this thread and mine, or to combine all three threads in to one. Since it looks like it's not likely for us to see a 7/14 release date of the iPod Touch 6G.

I agree that the iPods are dead. But I do have to say that the iPT 5g was a pretty good upgrade in 2012. It got the A5 when the latest iPhone got the A6. So it was only one generation behind. At the time, it was basically a 4s without the phone.

Tough situation for Apple, get additional folks to go onboard with AM on the cheaper side for a device but don't cannibalize existing products to do so.

The lack of a new touch today saddens me, but I won't give up hope for it.

5G is still very usable today.
