July 15th Wednesday or 22nd?

The 15th. Definitely the 15th. Absolutely no doubt :p
Tough situation for Apple, get additional folks to go onboard with AM on the cheaper side for a device but don't cannibalize existing products to do so.

I'd say there is still a market for pocketable, non-phone devices. I'd rather not carry around an $800 phone or 7" tablet while doing physical activities. I'm in the market for a new iPod, but it won't take the place of a phone or tablet purchase.

All of you are acting as if the people who said this have deep inside information regarding these iPods. It all sounds pretty obvious to me. The new colours were seen in the iTunes leak, as was the 14th July date. And it said a 64-bit A-series processor. That bit's also obvious. They've just discontinued the original iPad Mini, making the iPod touch the only A5 device left. And if they are refreshing the colours, they are obviously going to update the processor, and it would be logical if they moved to 64-bit only, so all of their devices need to be 64-bit.

Not on iOS 8/9 beta it isn't. Can't even zoom into MR homepage without it crashing out.

I suppose my statement was a little general, but given the fact that people make use of much older tech I would argue that it is still a relevant device. It's all relative anyway - what is useable for me may not be useable for someone else.

I don't browse MR on mobile, and admittedly I haven't used it for web browsing regularly in the past and still in the present. When I needed it for such, it didn't disappoint me though. I mainly use it for locally stored media and iMessage, so it suits my needs.

New user been lurking; just noticed on apple UK, under tech specs they have purple and green colours listed for the iPod touch. These haven't been available previously have they?

The inventory also states 1 business for all except one iPod touch model with a huge influx on the refurb store today.

Update: both nano and shuffle pages updated with new colours

The lack of a new touch today saddens me, but I won't give up hope for it.

5G is still very usable today.

It won't be so useable when ios9 comes out. So that's why it will be updated sometime between now and then
Most likely in September.

It used to be great. Sigh, I wish I'd stayed on iOS 7. Now every update is a 'fingers crossed it'll make it better' update, but nothing has come close to 7.

You're right, it is still relevant, but it's hanging on to its relevancy by tenterhooks.

Updated where? I opened the Apple page, and nothing new.

oops, massive error on my part, no update, was viewing the site back to front. #shame

Here's back to waiting, wished they'd hurry up with it want one for my kid.

It's possible that the iPods be released until this Thursday, as the 5th generation was released on October 11, 2012 (a Thursday), the rear camera-less model was released on May 30, 2013 (also a Thursday), and the $199 16GB with a rear camera was released on June 26, 2014 (again, also a Thursday).

In other words, the 5th generation release date as well as the previous two "updates" were on Thursdays (I checked in the Buyer's Guide section).

Then why go with 14?!?!?!

I think July 14th was just a random date that the graphics department used on that leaked photo. Obviously. Because Nothing was released. I think it's best to assume now that the new iPod touch won't show up until September and the release of iOS 9. Could be sooner, but I'd rather go with September and be pleasantly surprised if they release it sooner. :)

That's a good way of thinking, although I would bet that Apple would not waste time in their September keynote on refreshed iPods, especially with the upcoming Apple TV and its service. I just don't see them announcing the 6th generation iPod touch at all if the only difference is an A7 chip. A press release is much more likely, as they have done with the previous "updates."

I am also going by the fact in the UK John Lewis, a MAJOR high street and online store, ONLY has the yellow ipod Touch in 16GB and 64GB capacities available, and the fact this story shows an inventory screen from Target showing the iPods are ELF:

http://www.johnlewis.com/apple-ipod-touch/p231745348

http://wccftech.com/apple-starts-limit-ipod-supplies-stores-upgrade-imminent/

And that the French website who said the iPod's would be getting update is said to have a VERY good track record and reputation with it's story's.
And John Lewis has more then enough money and buying power to stock iPod's, so the update will be happening soon :)

By coincidence, I was actually at Joun Lewis today, and I saw a stand for iPods, there were like 10 on display, but I couldn't find a single phone in there. I was also thinking that they would soon have to refurbish that stand. But if they knew what was coming, that would be odd. Kind of irrelevant, but whatever.
Also, I'm not commenting on the track record of that site, I'm just saying that I knew all of that stuff they said would happen. You don't have to be an analyst to work that stuff out.

True. And I just noticed that the wait time for iPod touch online has slipped, and inventories are low in stores. So perhaps we will see a quiet update sooner rather than later.

LOL Your track record in guessing what Apple was going to do regarding the iPods on July 14 is not very good.
"It's pretty much guaranteed that new iPods are coming out next week on the 14th." Any subsequent guesses are probably just as "accurate".

But I admire the confidence you have to continue on with your predictions. :)

Fair enough, but no need for sarcasm. I was basing my opinion on the images from iTunes, along with all of the many articles online. Like I said before in another post, I'll own my mistake, and my poor choice of words (I should have said "very likely" instead of "pretty much guaranteed").

Besides, it's not like it was a prediction without any basis, unlike many "analysts" who predict release dates and specs for Apple products with no sources. It's MacRumors after all, not MacFacts.

So Andres Cantu when do you think Apple is going to release an updated iPod touch even though it was supposed to be today when do you think there going to release it let me know

Sorry for getting it wrong. I've owned my mistake, but I'm still hopeful that the iPod touch will be released on Thursday. Here's what I mentioned earlier:
