Whether the data are accurate or not, or meaningful, that is an absolutely rubbish chart. It reuses colors, there's no way to tell whether it's a mini or on an 11, and same for other models. It also doesn't show data for previous quarters, which matters given release dates and when people are buying phones (or at least the customer make up - early adopters vs. stragglers, etc.)
Yes, that chart is confusing garbage

One doesn't have anything to do with those.

It's simple. A phone has become the main computer for productivity and entertainment for many. A larger screen thus is preferred.
Yes, and for those people there are really large phones.

I’d rather have something more compact when I’m mobile. Once I get back home or in the office, I have other devices with bigger screens and hardly use the phone, then.

Definitely grabbing a mini when they drop in price this fall.

The main complaint I have with Apple's implementation was that the decision to make it as thick as the larger models (or I suppose as thin) just meant the battery was an unnecessary compromise. For me, that's not a huge issue—a 13 mini still is a slight boost over what my XS got new. But it just seems like a few more MM would have removed the biggest complaint people had with it.

Of course, beyond that there's no disputing that it's a less "nice" consumption device, and I have no doubt it'd still be a small percentage of overall sales.

I just bought the 13 mini and love almost everything about it except for two MAJOR qualms:

1) Yellow tint screen issue (tried the screen lottery many times with no success).

2) Pictures are not as sharp/vivid as my iPhone 8's LCD panel. Also, everyone raves about the larger 5.4" display (compared to the iPhone 8/SE's 4.7" display), but in reality, pictures/video actually show smaller on the 13 mini since the width of the screen is actually 2mm narrower and thus pictures/video need to be scaled down slightly.

I’ve never had complaints about battery life on any iPhone. And I was stoked when they created a mini. But the battery was awful so I had to upgrade. Not sure if it was worse for me than others but after 6 months and an 88% battery health, and Apple telling me that was normal, I lost interest in the smaller form factor.
I held off on the 12 mini over the battery concerns. But maybe the 12 line just didn’t have great batteries as my wife’s regular 12 is at 86% health and has FAR worse battery life than my 13 mini. Hers is about 15 months old and mine 6 months.

Sure. I am increasingly prefer smaller phones as well.

But my preference doesn't dictate the numbers and the overall market demand.

I own the 13 Pro Max…. Reaching the corner isn’t an issue - you don’t need to. You can do a small down swipe at the center bottom where the multitasking bar is and cause the entire screen to shift down.

That’s still relative. Reachability gesture and it’s results is relative to the screen size of the phone: on the mini the top comes down relatively more than say the 6.1 or 6.7” of the Pro and Pro Max models respectively. You’re still reaching further, this is why the Sleep/Wake/Power button on the 13 Pro/Max is lower than the respective 12 models. Many don’t realize this.

It’s great Apple features this in iOS, for true. Unfortunately some of us still have small hands.

Because:
1. People usually have both hands free when they are using their phone
2. Typing is faster with both hands
3. It's much nicer to have a bigger screen on a smart phone
4. The medium sized phones fit in men's pockets just fine, and the large size fits ok
5. Both bigger sizes fit in women's purses/handbags just fine
6. Unlike some, most people don't spend most of their time on their phone doing one-handed porn browsing :D

Thus, yes, you are in fact, the 3% minority.

#1 lol most people are too busy swiping scrolling or typing on their phone abs simply viewing!

#2 personally for myself I can agree with as I find swipe a bit strange and not as accurate. Although iOS lately with auto correct has gotten a lot worse than say iOS 10. This is a relevant opinion to whom is text entering.

#3 not true. As folding screen phones continue to evoke or rollable screens you’ll see the main screen being smaller become the trend. Ex. Oppo Find N selling in just China outsold in less than a day at launch! Galaxy Folds never could do that. Guess which has a smaller main and smaller in-folded screen.

Also wait until Glasses come out main stream, the large phones will be extremely obsolete.

Large screen phones are popular due to wanting to view more media especially full movies or social media for those that barely spend time with their computers.

#4 lol try wearing jogging pants or track pants or khakis. I guess you’re not a very active guy during your days or just like something big in the pocket to play hockey with? ;) /s.

#6 and yet a bigger screen is EXACTLY what the one handed gymnasts want for porn. You really think ppl on a sub 6” screen watches considerable lude films on? You got jokes.

You’re right on the width. If you do realize the pixel density is the most on the mini series than any other iPhone right?!

Also vivid is about brightness or tint or the colour not the screen size itself unless to small to identify what you’re looking at.

The issue is the pricing of the Mini is so close to the regular 13. Just under $100 more you can get a slight bigger screen and battery life.

If the Mini offers around C$749 what it is already from the 13. I'm sure the Mini will grow more popular.

BS.
People are in for smaller phones but these prices are just crazy.
The mini will return in form of an SE and then it will sell much better. We haven’t seen all from the mini iPhone!
So people actually wanted cheaper phones, not smaller phones.

Yep, I realize the mini has better display specs, but my eye test tells me otherwise. When I put the iPhone 8 next to the 13 mini, the same picture looks better on the 8. Could be because the yellow tint on the 13 mini is messing up the photo…

I will say the 13 mini OLED definitely has truer blacks, no doubt about that!

They would sell like hotcakes at $500-$599. $700 is cray cray. I got my 12 mini at $499 at Best Buy and as much as I hate smart phones, I love my 12 mini. Cold dead hands and all …

I have an iPhone 13 mini. I prefer the form factor of the XS it replaced, which was the perfect size iPhone imo.

Have the 13 Pro and the 13 mini. Guess which one I lean toward and use more? Yep, the mini. You just cannot beat the portability of this phone. Plus, it’s a powerhouse that will last for more than five years easily. Heck, I’m going to buy another 13 mini when it’s discounted so I can have a spare since we don’t know when apple will go back and revisit this size of a phone again.
