it's far too small for me. coworker has one and i'd hate having to use that thing. i have a 12 pro max and even this feels small to me. i wish apple would do a 7/7.5" phone.
I believe Sumo wrestlers are big fans of using the iPad as an iPhone.

I hope Apple make an 32” iPhone for you.
5.000$

I bought a 12 mini as soon as it was available, one and a half years ago. To me, it appeared immediately as the long awaited golden ratio between portability and usability, with no compromises on performance. Still now, when I grab my friends' full-sized iPhones I wonder how they find them practical at all, beyond the marginally better battery life. I would never trade the two sizes (and weights).

But hey, I guess that I'm just one of those 3-percenters ?

Have the 13 Pro and the 13 mini. Guess which one I lean toward and use more? Yep, the mini. You just cannot beat the portability of this phone. Plus, it’s a powerhouse that will last for more than five years easily. Heck, I’m going to buy another 13 mini when it’s discounted so I can have a spare since we don’t know when apple will go back and revisit this size of a phone again.
I think within 5 or 7 years at the latest and Apple will propose an iPhone mini again. smaller than the current size (be it a foldable or other).

I always hope that evolution will be a stand-alone watch (as Sir Ive wanted it) by finally taking away the dictatorship of the iPhone (to which an iPad mini for specific tasks, for example CarPlay, would be a great replacement) from the Apple’s ecosystem.

I had a 12 mini and loved the size, but really wanted the better camera. i would have gone for a 13 mini, but had to get the 13 to get the good camera set and lidar scanner. The 13 is too big. i hate i the size, but needed the lidar scanner.

so its apples decisions driving the failure imo

Those of you who have a mini or thinking about getting one, make sure to also get the Apple Wallet. It makes holding the mini even more comfortable. Very nice fit in the hand.
Honestly I personally can’t recommend. The material feels and looks nice in the beginning but cracks started appearing around the cutouts at the bottom and it has become exceptionally dingy (not patina). Of course I haven’t tried cleaning it yet but it got bad pretty quick. I do like the “orange” color, though. I think it should be called terra cotta because that’s the exact hue.

I will say, those worried about the wallet detaching - for me it’s a NON issue by far. The only time it seems to come detached is when I drop my phone. Otherwise it only requires infrequent “position changes” to line it up perfectly if it gets nudged.

That should be still over a million devices. But yeah, it's disappointing. I can only speak for myself, but I'd very much like to have a mini, it's just too expensive. I'm going to wait until I can get a (discontinued or used) 13 mini for around 500.

So what? How is this news? We all know smaller phones are a niche market, but it is a market. Does this market need to be addressed every single year? No. Every 3 years would probably be ideal and worth the costs to make one.

I used my iPhone SE for 5 years before finally upgrading to a 12 mini last year and will probably wait just as long to upgrade again.

BS.
People are in for smaller phones but these prices are just crazy.
The mini will return in form of an SE and then it will sell much better. We haven’t seen all from the mini iPhone!
No they are not, people are into big screens and great battery life.
Some people are into cheap phones with reduced features and that is where the current mini design will have its future.

I could see a contributing factor being limits of battery life in a device that small while running mmWave 5G

To be fair though, the MagSafe battery that now runs at 7.5w looks cute on a 12/13 mini
Sure but it also makes it much less „mini“ in thickness.

What the ...

In 2022, having to read certain nonsense.

Apple has been producing mini versions of its products for years, and all had other purposes than the stupid issue of cost containment (just to name a few: the 12-inch PowerBooks had the same performance as the 15” and 17”; the MacBook Pro has always had mini versions in screen size but certainly not cheaper; the same iPhone SE was born with cpu/gpu of flagship 6s, but in a smaller body, it is the subsequent SEs who are the heirs of the 5C) as well as other manufacturers (see subnotebook).

If you are limited, limit yourself.

Retail prices are the latest problem in product design.

They should have a lot of retail sales through other channels to move units instead of sitting on them

I maintain the problem is the price not the product

If 13 mini was the Se3 and 499 it would sell like hot cakes

Luckily, iPhones have gotten so good, that this one might last me until Apple decides to release a smaller size in 5 years when everyone's forearms get tired and they start demanding smaller phones again.
If you sit in front of an Apple store for long enough, the right iPhone will turn up in the window.

It's all about picking the right point in the cycle.

I bought an iPhone 12 Mini. It's the phone I was waiting for. I love it. However I only bought it because it cost me $400. Best Buy ran a sale before the 13 line up was announced and I had some Best Buy credit. If the 13 Mini became the new SE at $400 I'd buy 3 more for my kids and 2 for my parents. Current SE too big, too little screen, battery life, old design. 13 Mini too expensive. (Actually all phones are too expensive.). Maybe my view of practicality is Apple's view of cheapskate and they don't want to sell to me. Although I also bought a 14" MacBook Pro and love it.

Upgraded from a 12 mini to a 13 mini because I saw the writing on the wall. Guess I'll be hanging onto my 13 mini for a while. I run a lot, so the smaller a device I can strap to my arm, the better. The Apple Watch isn't quite full-featured enough yet, but hopefully it'll continue to improve to the point where I don't feel like I need my phone during a run.

Same. Whenever I pick up my wife's regular 13, I cannot fathom using a phone at that size. The Max? Forget it.

But on the other side of the coin, when she picks up my Mini, she can't believe how small it is either.

It'd be really nice to know actual numbers since percentages can be misleading. Definitely not scientific, but I travel a lot for work and have seen a lot of minis in actual use (haven't actually seen a galaxy flip in the wild). Again, not scientific but based on my observations, minis more often appear in the hands of those who can probably afford to choose to have a smaller screen because they have other larger screen options they can use for specific tasks. The 6.1 inch iPhone is a Swiss Army knife device for a lot of people and it's probably the easiest one for carriers to push and customers to justify purchasing. Again 3% of total iPhone sales could be a value greater than the combined number of foldables from other companies sold to date. but, compared to either iPhones, it seems minuscule. I hope they take this form factor and use it for the next SE.

If only the mini had the cameras of the pro. That's the only thing stopping me from buying one as my personal phone (12 pro). I love the smaller size from a usability standpoint. Hoping that when my next work upgrade comes along, I can replace the XR with a mini.

So not many people wanted the little fella after all. Shame it didn't sell better.

I'm 'Goldie Locks' w/ my regular iPhone 13. It's not too small that I have to squint to see the screen...and its not too large that I have to operate it two handed, worry about dropping it or it fitting into most pockets.

love my 13 mini but 3% is not worth the investment for Apple. making a bigger non-pro phone would be much more straightforward for Apple and capture more of the market (although it would eat into sales of their Pro Max). I wonder how they'll price things this year (would the 14 Max be the same price as the 14 Pro?). I do hope the Mini form factor comes back as the next SE as the current SE design is getting long in the tooth, it's an awesome size for one-handed use. If they eventually introduce a punch hole camera or all-screen design, i could see the Mini with the notch becoming the SE since it will look sufficiently different from the main lineup.
