What happened to Tim Cook "clamping down on rumors" ???
Most everything we saw was foretold via the rumor sources. Except, of course, for the aggregious $29 price tag for a stinking 30-pin to 8-pin connector.

Too late:

http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/25/samsung-unveils-new-galaxy-beam-smartphone-projector-combo-wit/

Judging that this was February, and people don't seem to have heard much about it, we can already tell what a resounding success that was.

Speaking from experience, pico projectors are worse than useless, and that's why I don't want to see one in my phone. They don't promise the brilliant brightness they claim, and all they do is suck battery life. Maybe when the technology is there to get display a bright enough image without having to go completely pitch black, through a small aperture without melting your phone, I'll buy. But that's not today.

I'm fine with the iPhone 5 and its features. I've said this before and I'll say it again: having tons of frilly features for the sake of having frilly features was a game I played long ago, and I learned that unless they work well, they're useless. The iPhone 5 (I hope) has just the right advancement in features and OS that it works well. And THAT is what keeps it ahead of Samsung and Android devices.

If you're disappointed, then please, for the sake of sanity, don't buy one. that way there's less frenzy and plenty of stock for those of us who indeed, would like to have one.

Its not ahead of Samsung , not even with this phone , its playing catch up .
Samsung will eventually have a projector long before Apple get round to it .
Its a major letdown and folk who are not blinkered can see that.

what did u want it to have?

A wider screen, so the keyboard is actually decently usable in portrait, and so content above the keyboard in landscape is actually viewable. Not simply a stretched iphone 4S. Big deal. Nothing impressive.

They should have done the back either ALL metal or ALL glass (again, but improved). Two prominent materials on one plane of the device just looks shoddy and unimpressive.

so you'd prefer plastic instead?

tbh, I think apple released most of those rumors and leaks, to keep the anticipation and rumors from going out of hand, and this anticlimax to become too great.

they did innovate in the last release...

pop up player
swipe for screen shot
s share
and a bunch of other stuff that doesn't come to mind now. but the ones I just listed above are innovation.

PS I am not a samsung fan boy by any means, just wanted to keep the record straight.

Never said they were NOT innovative.

Anyways, I wouldn't call those "innovative" ideas, just added features.

Automobiles get refreshed every few years or so, with more power, more features, comfort, and new styling, but that's not really innovation. Innovation would be when hybrid engines came out, dual clutch transmissions, etc. that were introduced

I'm not disappointed but don't have the zeal to upgrade from my 4S.
Truth be hold, I like the 3.5 inch screen anyways.

it's funny... alot of people (including me) is a bit disappointed.. yet, we can't really say exactly what it is we want. I guess we expected the unexpected. Which we really shouldn't.

Re-read what I said. All metal or all glass. Not sure why you even bother responding when you can't comprehend what I write.

I've said exactly what I want.

All metal or all glass back, so it doesn't look like a shoddy prototype phone, 1/4" wider screen to improve portrait keyboard functionality and landscape content display when typing.

lol i read exactly what you wrote. All this complaining and people keep comparing the iPhone to a PLASTIC phone. Yet, this new update is still not good enough for you? lol

Also, if Apple had left it all glass you would be pissed off bc it was just like the 4s just a tad taller. There would be something for you to complain about!!

Hello. Sorry guys I have no value to add but I just wanted to say thanks for all the adult posts. A lot of other forums just burst into "iphone dis, android dat" and it's just too much for me.

Is it fair to say that the iPhone 5 has had the same evolution as the iPhone 4S did from the iPhone 4? What did Apple experts say (I don't like saying fans/followers/boys)? Before the iPhone 4S was announced they said the next iPhone will change the mobile industry. When the 4S was released with only minor updates (I'm only using minor because other manufacturers were making significant changes) they said the 4S was important but the one after the 4S will blow your mind. Now the iPhone 5 is announced, they say "no no the NEXT iPhone will blow your mind".

It's relatively easy to say "you can't please some people" - remember your place as a consumer because you're not an Apple employee to serve free marketing for them - but Android-based phones have more than 60% market share while iPhone has less than 17%. Are all those people so blind to Apples 'innovation'? I think the only people who care about brand loyalty are those who feel socially unaccepted. Sensible people, which I pray make up majority of the worlds percentages, will buy good phones regardless of what brand it is. It's why I purchased all iPhones but in my heart I think 4S will be my last. In no way shape or form is the iPhone 4S or 5 bad. They are both exceptional phones and have been and will prove popular. My only grife is why have better in the future, when the future is already better now - with competitors?

I do however hope the iPhone 5 does not sell well. It will cause the 5S (or whatever the almighty dubs it) prices to be lower (not higher according to some "financial experts"). Some sources report Apple made more than 300% margin on each iPhone 4S handset - talk about daylight robbery. It's not so much a premium phone, rather a premium price for a moderate phone.

Can I just end with - do you know how embarassing it is to praise and defend iPhones and Apple for years, even after the Apple vs Samsung courtcase when every major news publishing website including CNET openly voiced that Apple had been copying other brands (just watch their USTREAM of the Apple keynote) and is playing "catch up as it always has been", and for them to end up releasing this? Did it check all your boxes because nobody has pointed out that what is in the iPhone 5 should have been in the iPhone 4. I've been in an Apple flavoured bubble for way too long my friends. Way too long.

my iphone 4 got stolen on july 4th on the beach, and it was around its 2 year cycle to upgrade to a new phone. my original plan was to hold out for this release (and sell my 4 to put $$$ towards it). I was going on a big trip the very next weekend and wanted a decent camera to take pictures with that wasn't a DLSR.

i bit the bullet and bought a samsung galaxy s3 the day before the trip. based on the rumors and leaks (iphone 5), the longer screen really turned my away.

today, i thankfully am not experiencing buyers remorse. I love my s3, the customization, the big screen, and actually as small as it is, the notification LED that comes in a wide range of colors is just such a nice touch.

i will admit that the new iPhone 5 is stunning and did make me think twice, but i will be sticking the samsung for a while. i still adore my 11" macbook air and my 5th gen ipod nano (wish they still kept this design, yet another flaw to an apple upgrade with no click wheel).

maybe the next redesign, ill return to apple. for now, android will be running my mobile device.

Where did he say that?

They did claim it would "change the industry", yet it's just an elongated shoddy prototype looking design that doesn't change anything.

Where did I compare it to a plastic phone?

I'm making the point:
1. It serves no purpose using both glass and metal on the back
2. It looks like a shoddy prototype with 2 materials/colors on the back
3. It should either be all glass or all metal.

I wouldn't complain, in fact I wouldnt even mention it if it was all glass. But the bottom line is that this a small incremental upgrade over the 4S that really doesn't impress.

what I don't understand is why so many people expect every new iPhone to completely revolutionize the mobile phone industry. Did you people expect every iPod refresh to revolutionize the mp3 player industry? No, they were incremental upgrades, and people understood this - why is the iPhone so different?

tl;dr: Apple doesn't very often revolutionize markets it's already in - they revolutionize markets they hadn't entered yet. Chill out people.

Because the iPod at this time has no real competition, it's way out in front of other MP3 offerings. The iPhone on the other hand is in a real dogfight with the top androids, so people naturally wanted the iPhone 5 to be revolutionary. That way they could still claim to have the best, coolest kid on the block. These updates however just keep up with the competition rather than surpassing it.

Uh because they claimed it would change the mobile industry again....

That was a big whopper.

I am not disappointed, but will not upgrade from my iPhone 4S just yet. I am still using my iPhone to play (wired) films to my telly, the new connector does not support it, so that is my decision made. I like the new features and will upgrade probably with the iPhone 5S ( if there will be one).
Not bothered about 4G (LTE), as my provider in the UK is not offering it for quite some time, if ever.
Anyway my main reason for not upgrading really is that I still love my 4S as much as I did several months ago, and if the battery was replaceable I would stick to it for years to come.

Every single rumor was true. No big surprises. Just wideband audio and an A6 processor which doesn't seem to be quad-core. No NFC.

The big features are...panorama mode. Great.

You again?
Look through this guy's past posts and you'll see how big of a fandroid he is.

Sorry to break it to you...but the biggest feature of the s3 is....S-voice? lol.
