Do you think the names with be

iPhone 9 (lcd)
iPhone Xs

Maybe then the next year they’ll all be iPhone XIs?

Don’t forget apple Always keeps older models for sale too.
People that want a smaller less expensive phone will buy IPhone SE or iPhone 7/8

Such a low PPI LCD panel on a phone that size is going to be pretty miserable to look at.
Bigger devices can get away with lower pixel counts because you need to keep them further from your face to take in the whole device.

The pixels of the iPhone 7 are indistinguishable with 20/20 vision at 10.5 inches from your face.

Something like 35% of people have 20/20 vision or better, uncorrected.
Only 1% or so have 20/10 vision.

If your vision is corrected with lenses, then it becomes increasingly difficult to focus at closer distances without additional reading glasses.

The iPhone X is a perfectly sized device in my opinion, I've had regular (4.7) and plus sized iPhones and now the X and the X hits that sweet spot for me.

Hopefully the new larger size won't mean more production issues and we'll have greater supply at launch next year. I hit the Nov 3 date but I saw a lot of people ordering in the first hour had significant waits.

True of the new IUP folks or those who paid cash. Like many of the IUP folks from last fall who did pre-approval although I got a 17-24 November date for a short time, by the day before Launch I went to November 6-9 and actually got my X on morning of November 6. I like the size for holding and use with almost one hand now. Will have to ponder if I give it up next fall for the "plus sized" X or not.

excellent options! more choices...if you consider that a good thing ;)

It's not more choices. It's just price shifting everything upwards.

I thought as tech matured prices are suppose to go down. Since Cook took over, it's been the opposite as shown by the iPad, iPhone, and MBP.

Call it iPhone XI and give us 11 screen-size choices!!!

That's fine if Apple wants to make a larger one and charge more for it.

But there needs to be feature-parity across the OLED models. After the X, no one is going to buy the argument that some special camera improvement can only be unique to the 6.5" model.

I only ever bought the Plus models for the camera, and I'm ecstatic that the X has come down to reality with a usable size AND all of the hardware Apple can dish out.

I'm never, ever going to buy a 6.5" iPhone and I will be extremely irritated if I'm missing out on camera or other hardware features because Apple chose to make them unique to the "premium" model.

yeah like you I went for plus to get the best cameras -- one feature that especially has drawn me to upgrade each year. I am not sure about a 6.5 plus X however. I have big hands so the old plus fit fine, but the X also fits nicely for me and I enjoy doing much now with my left hand and occasional use of right on it. 6.5 inches might be awkward. The only advantage of the IUP program for me was I got my X on November 6 (after not getting on til 12 past and having initial November 17-24 delivery estimate). I am sure unfortunately they will put some special camera feature in the "X" plus like they have always done with the plus sizes, I guess it depends what they add that is special but they typically get us on that LOL

I understand the shift to larger displays and that transition has been growing for years.

However, you're not correct to say "Only diehard SE users think it makes sense." I did own the SE at one point and in doing so, I realized you don't care about having the latest technology in the SE, you care about the form factor And the comfortability when holding it and carrying it. You don't have to be a "diehard" SE owner to know and appreciate the 4 inch form factor.

Any SE user knows they receive the essentials with Touch ID and a strong battery in a well made iPhone, and that's all that most ask for in the SE, regardless if it's updated in 2018 or not.

I usually comment in general terms instead of addressing specific niche markets. I concede there is a market for SE, but it simply isn’t large enough for major manufacturers to care about it.

Time spent using smartphones is increasing by 10-20% year over year. Since 2013, U.S. consumers have doubled the amount of time spent each day to 5 hours.

A 4” device no longer cuts it as a personal computer today. For the Indian continent where the SE is targeted, the smartphone will be their one and only computer. Xiaomi for instance sells a 5” device for less than $100.

I'd be in for an X Plus sometime next year. Played with the X this weekend at Best Buy, was surprised at the size. I didn't look too much into the X beforehand since I'm not planning on getting it, but I was expecting it to be the same size as the Plus.

I’m loving my X, big time.

I will love my 6.5” Plus at least as much, too. :D

I like how I can do much one handed with my X compared to all my Plus phones (which with large hands like mine were comfortable). I wish they would let me try the X plus if there really is one a month before preorder on my IUP program, I am wondering how wide a 6.5 inch diagonal plus would be, might even be awkward for my large hands. Not sure I want to carry a iPad mini around LOL. But that is next year and I am enjoying my X big time also.

it is, Apple is giving you the 6.1" LCD option ;)

but seriously, I agree with you, Apple is giving a cheaper option, but who wants that old tech, then the new tech gets a price increase...gotta keep the stock rising

1) Apple should stick with 5.8" and 6.5" oled and iPhone SE edge to edge 4.5"
2) If that larger 6.5" doesnt have iPAD iOS , whats the point?! i hope they will give the plus model even more iPAD style gestures/features
