You’re right. I need a minimal an iPhone plus for split screen use. Oh wait the Samsung comes with bigger screen than the iPhone 8 plus. The bezels are just gone away and the phone itself has about the same size.

Screen to body ratio also doesn’t change the fact a smartphone screen is not large enough to really make split screen viable. Can it pass as usable to some? Sure, but it doesn’t make it any more effective.

Here you go...
your video proves nothing, how do you know they are on the same network/wifi? Videos like this from unreliable sources are so easy to cheat. And the samsung has twice the RAM because Android SUCKS and memory management. I also believe the iPhone 7 beat the S8 hands down so it must be an issue with IOS11 which will be fixed with an update that everyone will get unlike android. Go away fanboy and take your alternative facts with you

Autopilot optimistic about this one. I’m reluctant to give up Touch ID but we will have to see how great it is. I’m sure it’s very good, I’m just not convinced it’s necessarily better in terms of my own daily usage.

You mad?

You’re honestly rendering your videos on a phone?
Even 256 gb isn’t much for 4K :D
But hey... I can render videos faster on my iPhone and run everyday programs slower

As has been pointed out to you already, it’s an excellent test of performance. But hey, you can open Apps a split second faster. That’s going to help so much in terms of getting things done. Let’s forget all the time you spend IN the App doing something, and only talk about opening Apps. Because those are the only tests where you can beat the iPhone.

Don’t fret though. I’m sure Samsung or Qualcomm will make a processor as fast as the A11. In Spring of 2019.

It will take Apple's Android competitors up to two and a half years to replicate the functionality and user experience of the TrueDepth Camera in the iPhone X,
Have fun catching up droid fans lol!

This whole thread is FULL of butthurt on both sides.

Yea... i have barely been on the site for the last year because it was so frustrating. Complete lack of actual intellectual debate about anything. I thought i'd drop in since i upgraded to iOS 11... and surprise... more of the exact same.

What I really want to know, is what happens with Face ID if you gain/lose weight? What happens for women if they are going full on make-up mode with multiple layers of foundation and so forth. What about those who love to get that plastic surgery?

Basically, people's faces will change with time and this can bring annoyances with a facial scanner. Iris's and finger-prints, on the other hand, don't really change.

Was already spoken about during the keynote. The Neural Engine is designed to always adapt and be learning your face as it changes (first example they gave was someone growing a beard)

Makeup doesn’t change the key features FaceID looks for. FaceID looks for 50 separate data points across the face.

Glad you were able to find your way back to the Mac Rumors sight (Welcome)

A very intellectual respond.

It was all forum talk, rumors and false hopes lol. Apple ditched plans for under the screen Touch ID a year ago.

Or possibly a lot longer than a year ago. The A11 Bionic is a key component to FaceID (to have the Neural Engine) and is something they have been working on since the A8 chip release.

They’ve already begun. There was an article a week or so ago about how a lot of face recognition start up companies are having large phone manufacturers knocking at their doors ever since the iPhone X announcement.

The Note 8 can scan the iris of it's users and use that for recognition...

What exactly does Samsung need to take from Face ID? Maybe Kuo is talking about exact copies of Face ID (facial scanning using IR) but iris scanning is a real thing that works great on the Note 8

Problem with the iris scanner is that it doesn't work in bright sunlight. I had to frequently disable it on my S8+ and use my passcode to unlock it because of this issue. It stems from the fact that the iris scanner uses IR to scan your eyes, but sunlight messes with IR which causes the sensor to fail when scanning your eyes. This was super annoying this past summer whenever I was outside or at the beach... my S8+ just wouldn't scan my eyes.

Also annoying is the fact that it has to be placed at a pretty specific angle for it to properly scan your eyes. This means it takes a little longer than using other unlock options since you have to line your eyes up with the sensor. That, along with the first problem, are reason enough to prove that iris scanning isn't even comparable to FaceID when you take ease of use, reliability, and usability into consideration.

Apple is setting the stage for the next decade of what people expect from smartphones.

Much like the original iPhone launch, it took android years to catch up and make truly competitive products.

Same with Touch ID.

No surprise it is happening again.

But Android is already ahead of Apple in many fields and it's now Apple who is playing catch up. Now whatever Android do Apple are playing follow-my-leader a year or more later.

And to think Steve Jobs used to complain about people copying the iPhone. ;)

So essentially you’re saying the Note 8 is a “jack of all trades, master of none” and iphone is “a killing machine with one purpose”

And everything you list are just features you find personally useful. Not everyone does. Not everyone agrees that split screen on such a small screen size is even useful. Most people who have owned Note phones barely use the pen. That is fact and even brought up amongst Android fans themselves. You would see more smartphone manufacturers following suit with their own note/pen line up if it truely was something other than gimmick.

Actually, what I'm saying, is that the Note 8 has significantly more features, and most of the ones I've used are more helpful than similar features on iOS. So I guess you can say, the Note 8 is a "jack of all trades, master of most" where an iPhone "a killing machine of simple tasks".

I just posted my Note 8 review in the iOS alternative section if you want to read. Just in case you were wondering, the Note 8 is my FIRST android device and I've always used iPhones and Macs. So maybe you should resist the urge to just call me an android fanboy who's never used an iPhone.

Along with the face recognition on the Samsung line up, iris scan can also be fooled and has been proven. It’s simply not secure.

Apple’s FaceID uses true 3D mapping to authenticate your face. Not some fake, false security BS that’s easily fooled by a photo. Samsung’s implementation is nearly as cheap as those China knockoff smartphones faking the fingerprint sensor.

In what fields exactly?

Being able to change icons and font isn’t exactly award winning.

Yeah it is not even an actual iris scanner if it can be fooled by a picture. That people are claiming that is the future are silly. This advancement by Apple is far past what the note is doing with their fake scanner.

ehh...some hackers will probably crack it within days just like they did with touch ID. Security will always be one step behind hackers in this cat and mouse game.

2.5 year lead.. that sounds about right as far as catching up to preorders for X. People are going to be buying other devices for a while once they realize X is sold out till end of Q1 2018.
Yes. Apple clearly wanted this for the ten year party but they’re barely able to ship it. But they really couldn’t wait til February and spring a “newer” iPhone on everybody.. they’d cause a riot. I figure this is another Apple 1.0 product. They’re certainly already working out the improvements needed to bring cost down and reliability up for Sept 2018. Just settle down and let them do their thing. I sprung for an 8+ which works with most of my 6+ stuff accumulated so far.

Samsung is always behind Apple, which is why they're so good a copying.
