Gah. Totally on the fence about the 12 Pro. My X runs fine, but there are artifacts which slightly obscure every single photo I take - very subtle. You notice them when scrolling through images. Same spots every shot. Fix $$ or new iPhone $$$.
For me and many others who prefer smaller phones, it was always about screen size. My 5s was usable one handed, and my 6s isn’t. Both fit in my front pocket just fine. So will the 12 mini, but it’ll be quite a bit heavier.
There’s a reason Jobs thought 3.5” was the perfect screen size.
I expect the reason for having more complicated cameras in the Max models isn’t to get people to buy the Max model, it’s simply because there’s more space (and more battery). Not necessarily "watered-down" since it is going to be an improvement over its equivalent 11 Pro, but they are definitely coming back to having different specs on the "Max" models, arguably due to the larger size... But I feel you, I wish they would give all the iPhones the same specifications across the lineup and the only difference being the screen size.
Exactly !In other news... water is wet? They’re releasing a mainstream model, a tiny model, a spendy model, and a spendy big model. Of course they expect the mainstream model to sell the most. Otherwise it wouldn’t be the mainstream model.
..it's because it's the truth. The same handful people flocking to any article about phone size to fawn over small phones is not translating to a real world market for small phones.yeah, it would destroy the opinion that price was the only reason people bought the OG SE, not the size. Can’t tell you how many times I read here that there was no market for smaller phones anymore.
Enjoy your new iPad Nano! It’s a little small for me, so I have the IPad Mini.
As a long time original SE user, I am set to get myself a 12 mini. It will be a nice upgrade I have been waiting for.
Yeah, I do remember Apple had a commercial trying to sell us on a 4.0” screen being perfect for thumb reach. Trying to deprogram us from the perfect 3.5”.It probably was the perfect size in 2005 when it was being developed......for a cell phone:

On top of that, he both approved a 4” screen and famously stated no one would want a larger screen, so he was clearly wrong at least twice. 😄
As an OG SE user since 2016, I also prefer smaller phones. I went BACK to an SE because my 6 was too big. I think the winner would have been a 4.7 display in a 5-sized body.....only the top row would have been harder to reach one-handed, IMHO, but with iOS 14 that could have been your large widgets.

Exactly. Why I have a Porsche when you can have a Kia? Sarcasm.Seems probable - I think the "iPhone 12" base model being the exact same size as the 12 Pro will cut into the 12 Pro sales. The Max will be unaffected since the people buying it just want the biggest phone.
I think it'll shake out like this sales wise:
1. iPhone 12
2. iPhone 12 Mini
3. iPhone 12 Pro Max
4. iPhone 12 Pro
I agree the 5.4” will be big (so to speak), but I don’t expect that it’ll be bigger than the mainstream model. I agree that there’s a market segment that fervently want a smaller phone, but the ones who want it fervently are still only going to buy one, they’re not all going buy ten of them each.I actually think the mini model could be a huge seller. People have been clamoring for this for a long time. This will be the first small in size, edge to edge screen iPhone. People are sick of the phone being a distraction and think a smaller phone will make them use it less.
I'm personally on the fence on 5.4" vs 6.1". Will need to see all the differences and the price gap to make a decision. I'm on an iPhone X and ready to upgrade.
Does anyone else anticipate this generation will dramatically underperform the expectations of Apple and analysts?
It’s been over 6 years since I last heard anyone complain about the speed of their phone. Having your big selling point be that it’s faster isn’t going to lead to anymore of an uptick in sales than happened last year, and it’ll probably be less, what with people being reluctant to spend money and not really needing to in light of coronavirus this year.
Because a Kia is more affordable and cheaper to repair/replace if something happens to it. Because a Kia gets the job done for 99% of people.Exactly. Why I have a Porsche when you can have a Kia? Sarcasm.
