When my local Apple store is open again I may convert my 11 Pro for the 12 mini. 5G is already in my area but I have no real desire to use it or pay for access to it.

Are you concerned with a watered-down camera on the 12 mini? Considering the mini myself, but I don't really appreciate the watered-down camera compared to the other 12's.
Mini camera will be the same as iPhone12

Those big ass screen phones are soooo cumbersome to use.
I mean, I really like the design and Face ID on my iPhone X, but my old 5S was much more subtle in my hands and in my pocket.

Man, release it already. I can´t wait to put my hands on my 6.7" iPhone 12 Pro Max midnight blue, only to cover it later with a case.

I will also choose the lowest storage capacity only to complain later during a trip for not having enough storage.

Not necessarily "watered-down" since it is going to be an improvement over its equivalent 11 Pro, but they are definitely coming back to having different specs on the "Max" models, arguably due to the larger size... But I feel you, I wish they would give all the iPhones the same specifications across the lineup and the only difference being the screen size.
Get a bumper lol you can see it then

I can't decide whether the Pro is worth it to me at all - I'm used to going top-spec when I buy, but I find camera upgrades unappealing and I've only played with AR once or twice and nothing of consequence, so the whole LIDAR thing just doesn't generate any interest.

All i know is this $150 Moto E i've been using for the past week to hold me over from my iPhone X drowning in my pocket during a thunderstorm (yay quality control, that thing is supposed to be able to be dropped in water) is utter crap, and I can't wait to get back onto iOS as angry as I've been at Apple the past few years for App store policies and Mac keyboard failures.
I went with a Pixel 3a XL. Nice phone. But if one drop of rain got on it, I could not use the touchscreen. Impossible to use unless completely dry. Unfortunately, as much as I liked a lot about the skins/launchers for Android and the price of the Pixel and the camera, it's a bit of a mess. I ended up with an 11 Pro Max after dropping the pixel and breaking the screen.

Yes, I've been upset with Apple. Only Apple product I use now is iPhone. It's not super awesome, but solid. BTW, the Pixel has an amazing camera.

It will be the cheapest iPhone available with rumors suggesting it will sell for $699, but Kuo says that even with the lower price point, it will not meet the demand for a larger display.

No so fast; there’s still one cheaper... Apple seems to have noticed the SE 1 sold b/c it was cheap, not small. But lots of Apple fans say they like small phones and often act like they would have paid more for another iPhone 5 sized device.

Apple seems to be seeing if those SE 1 fans will put their money where their mouth is. This is a perfect test of “I don’t care about price. I just want the latest tech in a small phone.”

Cost conscious will continue to buy the SE 2, which is still just one generation behind the latest. And they’ll continue to enjoy the SE 2’s normal-sized screen.

I wonder if people who have tried Pro features are getting somewhat tired of paying extra for them.

For instance I own an 11 Pro and honestly, while it is a great phone to me the biggest things are the battery life and(almost) full-screen display. The camera is good but not so good that I really care about it. The OLED screen is good but not so good that I really care about it. I feel like I paid extra for things I didn't really need, and I believe the phone is a little too big, so the 5.4 in. is perfect for me. I'll be giving this phone to another family member even though I enjoyed my time with it.

To answer your question I carried out some research and decided on the 11 Max Pro and have been extremely pleased with my choice due to battery life , screen and its cameras . I’m not in least bit tired of it and recently took some short videos of our grandson‘s football matches as the goals were scored . I sent these to our daughter so she should post them on the team‘s whats app group . She informed me she was inundated not just by compliments about catching the action at the right time but also about what phone or camera was used to film the match . Will be interesting to see the comparison with the 12 Max Pro .

I love the bigger screens, but I hate handling them. I have an SE 2 that works very well for me, the bigger ones are harder to hold and use. The mini intrigues me as I think it is roughly the same size as the SE 2, though I am not sure how much bigger it is. I think it’s just a tiny bit wider or something.
I ordered a case on Amazon and the SE 2 is just a bit longer and a slight bit narrower than that mini. In my hands, the mini will be perfect.

What is your problem? Why are you accusing other people lying just because they have other preferences? You need that much validation?

Our highly scientific MacRumors poll stated otherwise, and it wasn't even close

You seem to have totally discounted the fact that this community consists of a very small number of Apple enthusiasts & AAPL out there has a team of experts forecasting sales based on wide array of data & they do this for a living!

Battery life? Ive heard acorss the board that the battery life on the 11 Pro is pretty great and lasts all day. I currently have an 11 Pro Max and love love love the battery (even though its too large to me.) Especially since i use both my personal and work phone on it. Still wondering if i should go 12 or 12 Max this year.

“Recent rumors indicate the iPhone 12 mini will start at $699, the iPhone 12 will start at $799, the iPhone 12 Pro will start at $1,099, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will start at $1,099.”

Must be a mistake, as it’s doubtful the pro will be the same price as the max.
12 Pro at 999

So the 12 will go on sale before the 12 mini and the mini has a worse battery than the 12. Very risky betting the 12 will sell better than the mini.

I'm upset the battery won't be above par on the mini.

You seem to have totally discounted the fact that I was being facetious in calling our forum poll 'highly scientific,' and then my statement of such on Page 2.

So estimates are that one-in-five or one-in-four individuals prefer a smaller display.

I think that lines up about right with what we see on Macrumors.

My wife is getting an iPhone Mini. There are a lot of people who want a smaller form factor iPhone. Sure, the standard iPhone will always sell better. But remember, when the iPhone SE first came out, it sold way better than expected. A lot of people missed the smaller size. It think it will sell fine, and with a bigger display in an only slightly larger form factor, I think a lot of people may just go for it because it’s cheaper, too.
