What about twins / triplets / etc? They've already mentioned it doesn't work with those, and I think (pardon any insensitivity) those are far more common than people without fingerprints.
Of course.
But in this case... it's not a very tough prediction.
"If 2017 feature does well... it will likely be in all 2018 iPhones..."
That's some Nostradamus stuff right there...![]()
Same BS as every year. And every year they sell gangbusters of them. Where are all the prognosticators from last year that said iPhone 7 was little changed from iPhone 6s and wouldn't sell? All these dire predictions, "TOTAL catastrophe", "Apple doomed", "it's over for Apple" "lame product", "no innovation" ball...blah...blah.Meanwhile, in the short term, Apple is very-likely considering how-best to Drop Prices of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, BEFORE it becomes common knowledge to ALL that Sept (& eventually also Oct) is a TOTAL catastrophe:
iPhone 8: $699 -> $599
iPhone 8+: $799 -> $699
Apple clearly over-played their hand this year ... I suspect even Kuo will probably figure that out in a few weeks.
They didn't mention it doesn't work for twins, they said the probability is greater than the 1 in a million the twin can unlock other twin's phone. It will depend on just how identical and the differences in aging and environment play on each set of twins faces. What about twins / triplets / etc? They've already mentioned it doesn't work with those, and I think (pardon any insensitivity) those are far more common than people without fingerprints.
Good lord, is this ever a silly question. Apple would not have released this technology if they thought it had any chance of not being well received by customers. The odds of them going backwards are so close to nil as to not even be worth calculating. The only question that should be asked is how long it will take for this tech to migrate to the entire iOS line.
it will work with twins.. just that, if the twins are close to being identical twins, faceID may unlock for either of them. What about twins / triplets / etc? They've already mentioned it doesn't work with those, and I think (pardon any insensitivity) those are far more common than people without fingerprints.

Makes sense to me. Consider when you interact with another person. To get there attention do you poke em in the face? No, you look at them and make eye contact, then start your interaction. Now you can do that with your iPhone X.Face ID will rock us , just you wait...
You're all thinking stratified , think unified. Touch ID is out , you can't use it when your hands are semi wet , the physical button keeps all your dirt gunk and chocolate y'all have in your fingers ... seriously have you seen the area around a well used 5s home button ?
That's what we all want, a device that will actually know who you are by face, you simply direct your attention to it and it makes itself ready for whatever you need. We always said we would need some fancy neural network or even AI machine learning. Well guess what , Its the future folks and that's why you're all sitting here NOT with junk outdated 8/7s's but looking for pennies in your cushions for the new hotness - X.
Be real with yourselves; that's all Steve was freaking saying![]()
a lot of it is.. sure.Sorry to be a bit snarky here, but isn't that rather obvious?
Thats why they added so you need to swipe up to enter the phone, so its still one move to open phone, just swipe instead of press and holdThe 'problem' with Face ID is that it's automatic. You don't have the ability to "bail out" of an authentication process. You will automatically authenticate whether you want to or not.
With Touch ID, you're ALWAYS presented with an option to choose to use it or not. It's never automatic.
Seems to me, automatic authentication via face scanning with no user ability to opt out (if Face ID is enabled) could be abused some way by nefarious operators into duping a user into making a choice they rather would not.
Time will tell.
Please. I have cold weather gloves that have special capacitive tips that allow me to use the phone. Gloves are nothing. Wet hands? Wipe it dry. Not that hard.
say what?
why is using the phone while driving with touchID as opposed to faceID any safer?
you're not the first person to say this.
it makes no sense to me.
so you unlock the phone with touchID.. ok.. now what?
that's it? or you look at the phone? you still have to look at the phone to use it..

[edit]
also.. faceID will be in cars..like, built into the car.. shortly.

lol.
they have millions upon millions of people in queue to buy a $1000+ phone from them.. and you think they're considering lowering prices on phones this year?
not
gonna
happen
They didn't mention it doesn't work for twins, they said the probability is greater than the 1 in a million the twin can unlock other twin's phone. It will depend on just how identical and the differences in aging and environment play on each set of twins faces.
what you have to look out for is the elusive evil twin.. sure, they're out there.. very rare as far as i can gather but in those instance, probably use a passcode if you're buying a X.
good luck with the rest of the ios ui with wet hands and glovesWet hands and gloves. There you have it, two of them.
It baffles me that common sense doesn't make people understand this.
To use FACE ID, you have to take your eyes off the road or block your view of the road!
To use Touch ID, you can feel for the phone without even looking and unlock it, and continue to get driving instructions by voice without looking.
More relevantly though, I'm pretty certain that Touch ID would be far more secure than Face ID when it comes to distinguishing between twins.
Did you add a turbo on to your iPhone to allow for Touch ID to work through gloves?
When 6 months of my year is winter, Face ID is a huge bonus!
His prediction is quite specific. He says that if it is well-received, all new models next year will have it. If face id takes longer to become accepted, then they may phase it in over a longer time period.Well duh. LOL. Sometimes I want to be paid to say obvious things like this.
not Carplay really. And finally, Carplay does and will not have FACE ID anytime soon, possibly years if EVER, so don't even go down that road. The car manufacturers would NEVER take on that legal liability at this point.
Really. Your gloved hand can unlock your TouchID phone?
Those gloves are either magical or your TouchID is on the fritz.
heh.. we're (general population) seeing tech now that big brother has had for years..I don't like it big brother.
