I read a rumour on a Chinese website that says after the iPhone 14, there'll be an iPhone 15 which will feature "improvements" over the iPhone 14 and be Apple's best iPhone ever. Until the iPhone 16, which is predicted to be released some time after the iPhone 15.

Yeah, I bet with rumours we'll see it referred to as the 13. But if you look at past few cycles:

6-6s-7
X-Xs-11

We'll probably have 3 years of this design, starting with 12 and 12s.

Damn well if that’s the case hopefully we can get a much smaller notch next year.

Its too bad the microphone on my 7 Plus isnt working. I could totally hold off for an iPhone with ProMotion. But sadly I can't wait anymore.
I already waited 9 months for the 12 Pro Max I just ordered.

Please Apple, make the iPhone support the Apple Pencil.

Gonna be a long year

Or short, as Kuo suggests supply chain will be good by September "as usual"

If that ends being true, the 12 series will really be the "flagship" for a relatively short 10 full months

This makes zero sense. If it's the best selling anyway, why would they put more expensive parts into it?
It makes perfect sense, once they realise people are after the small size, Apple could easily sell a higher end mini with a price tag to match. The mini won’t be the best selling iPhone because of the price, it’s the size that sells.

It will be called the iPhone 12s. The 13 will not come until 2022.
We really do not know this

And what engineers may call it internally is different than what the final name may end up being and the marketing team is on a completely different time line from where the current focus is regarding parts and early prototypes

They won't skip 13, they had iOS 13 etc. I don't think Apple care about numbers.

Exactly. They don't care. It's all about marketing

There was no iPhone 2 but there was an iPad 2

There was no iPhone 9 because Apple skipped that number and launched two products with two names are the same time

They are on A14 right now

They just do whatever. They probably have a general brand timeline and idea but it can change and they won't be planning the final name this far out. They are however sourcing parts and making orders now and likely already have prototypes. And we should start seeing hints of ios 15 soon too. This is not abnormal; this is how it is every year after a new iPhone is launched. They're basically done with that once its in manufacturing stages and then its on to the next one

YES PLEASE. Any improvements made to the ultra wide lens are very welcomed by me. Night Mode has already made a big difference on the 12 Pro, so giving it such a big bump in aperture will only make it even more fun to shoot with it.

With a sensor size of 1/3.6" and actual focal length of 2.125mm (13mm equivalent) for the ultra wide lens, the change of aperture and implementation of autofocus will do virtually nothing

aperture: helps with shutter speed, but not really necessary since 2.125mm will tolerate lots of angular movement (i.e. camera shake)

does not help with depth of field, since at 2.125mm the depth of field is gigantically deep....

autofocus: not necessary, because due to wide DoF above, you basically have hyperfocus everywhere , probably from 1ft out to infinity

Even with a covid vaccine and no masks, the ridiculous notch is still there. I'm sure most people would prefer a thin flat bezel at the top rather than the notch.
Until (or unless) the under-screen cameras manage produce good enough image quality, there will always be at least a hole-punch. Aesthetically, between that and a notch, that likely is a draw for most people. And once you add that they would have to give up FaceID, I'm sure that most people prefer a notch to no FaceID.

So, even if most people prefer a thin bezel, since that is not really an option on the table, that assertion of yours is rather meaningless. Unless of course with 'thin flat bezel' you mean a bezel as thick as (or close to) the current notch. Then, I'd say, aesthetically it'll still be close a draw.

because not everyone upgraded this year

Yup! I’m not upgrading my XR until Apple supports XCLOUD. Hopefully it happens within the next 12 months.

My XR is 2 years old now. This is the point I’ve always upgraded in the past. COVID is NOT the reason I’m skipping this cycle.

Its the lack of XCLOUD support. 👎🏼

Damn well if that’s the case hopefully we can get a much smaller notch next year.
When was the last time that cameras got smaller in smartphones? Maybe the dot projector and flood illuminator can get a bit smaller but the front-facing camera certainly won't (and the IR camera will also only get marginally smaller). Could they gain a millimetre or two by packing things a bit more tightly? Probably, but it won't make the notch look much different.

I also (TouchID) made this point in the past, Apple just might listen.
It's awful the way it is now, removing your mask just to pay with ApplePay while you are pretty close to others sucks.

And for those who say "just use your pasword" I say this, my pasword is 15 Alphanumerical characters long, takes too ff long.
Tim doesn't want you to use your passcode, use your Apple watch (and don't forget to upgrade that watch liberally!)

I would not be getting it anyway as I'm buying the mini this year, but I really hope they ship a Pro mini at some point.

🤞🤞🤞
Yes. And with full feature parity. Change the same price for all I care, I’m so over this “larger phone = more features” insanity.
