AI is nothing but a marketing term for things that have existed for ages. The iPhone already has tons of AI just like every other phone has for the last decade. Siri has been AI from the start, the camera does tons of AI since ages, IOS does tons of AI stuff all the time.

We just didn't call it AI, because there's NO reason whatsoever to specifically call it AI.
They don’t do what Samsung and google phones do.

I will be severely disappointed if they don’t add the AI functions to photos.

This would be a large miss by Apple.

A phone is a phone is a phone is a phone. What do you suggest for a new design?

A foldable phone is a flip phone with two displays.
At least Apple had the guts to be the first ones who got rid of the classic phone look, and eliminate the physical keyboard, replacing it with a display with a great tactile feeling, unlike the HP iPad or the Palm Pilot that felt as if the display was bending (same feeling with Samsung's foldable phone; it feels like those cheap displays).

Yes, but that courageous keyboard replacement physical was 17 years ago.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting to get rid of the iPhone as it is now, but adding to the existing line up.

Foldable, flexible displays are here. Throw us a bone. New form factors and thinking outside the box, and pair it with a reimagined iOS beyond a grid of icons.

Instead, Apple spent a better part of a decade and placed their bets on the VisionPro.
If that’s Tim’s vision of the future, it will certainly be part of his legacy win or lose.

Ah yes,
iPhone 16 models launching later this year will not have any "significant design changes," according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Ah yes, Tim Crook saving money (and not passing those savings on to the customer by lowering prices) to increase profits by reusing the same design from the iPhone 11/12/13/14/15. The iPhone 16 should be named iPhone 11sssss.

Yay now we get the iPhone 13SSS!

Some people aren't upgrading their phones because they don't have a new design, and think they are buying the exact same phone.

Whatever happened to these that would actually MAKE Gen-Z upgrade:

Have to say, from reviews I’m impressed with the latest Samsung ultra

Apple need to pull their finger out because “but it doesn’t run iOS” is losing weight as an argument for me.

I wonder if the Vision Pro launch had anything to do with it.

That’s fine, though. What I wouldn’t want from Apple is that they focus so much on the iPhone (because it’s basically funding the entire company) that they don’t give their full attention to other products. Imagine if they didn’t give the iPod their full attention because Macs were too important to their bottom line! Apple has always been about chasing the next big thing.

I think the iPhone is still far enough ahead of the competition that it’ll still be the best smartphone even with a relatively minor update this year.

Also, I definitely don’t think they need to chase the foldable trend.

I mean the slab form factor has peaked. There's no major design changes left to be made when the device is essentially entirely screen on the front sandwiched in a metal/glass chassis with cameras on the back... It's all minor, iterative improvements from here on out.

I think the new Samsung Ultra is physically hideous, like worst design I've seen in a while...I absolutely hate the super-square corners. The Pixel 8 looks pretty good, though; wife has one and loves it.

The "but iOS" argument is beginning to lose with me, too.

The best thing to happen to Apple was Ive leaving; he's a loose cannon without Jobs and did nothing but almost destroy the MacBook line.
Whatever he designed at least looked good. The only negative thing was lack of ports. For my use case I didn't miss them, but I can empathize with those that need them. Other than that I don't see how he ruined anything.

1. The new phones are still 7-8 months away. There's always a series of click-baitey rumor articles that come out all year that get people fired up but may or may not be actually grounded in reality, and sometimes contradict other click-baitey rumor articles.

2. Smartphones are now mature technology and like with every mature technology the pace of innovation plateaus. Changes are going to be iterative/incremental unless they are just changes for the sake of making changes, which would be complained about just as bitterly.

3. Its actually not a bad thing at all if you can keep your less than 5 year old phone another year because the new phone isn't that different from it.

At this stage, is the camera or a major processor improvement, that makes my iPhone obsolete.

Although I fell victim of the Dynamic Island gimmick to jump from the 12 Pro Max to the 14 Pro Max.
I guess, for the first time, I'll keep my iPhone for 3 years.
